DENVER – 9 Nov: Pontifical TLM

From a reader:

Bishop Conley to celebrate Latin Mass

The public is invited to join Denver Auxiliary Bishop James D. Conley as he celebrates a Tridentine Mass, the Latin-language liturgy used before the Second Vatican Council, on Nov. 9.

The solemn high pontifical Mass, which can only be said by a bishop, will mark the feast of the dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran, which is the official ecclesiastical seat of the bishop of Rome.

The Mass is being offered in thanksgiving for the archdiocese’s hospitality to the Tridentine Mass community.

The Mass is set for 2:15 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan St. in Denver.  All are welcomed to attend.

I hope auxiliary bishop conley gets a diocese soon.

  2. toomey says:

Ed, you would take away our only TLM supporting bishop in the Denver Archdiocese? What do have against our fair little town?

  3. Dr. Eric says:

Is it just me or are these bishops saying the EF with more frequency?

  4. Larry says:

I think the Holy Father appointed Bishop Conley to act as auxiliary and I imagine he will at least get through one Confiramtion season before moving on.

Can anyone tell me approximately how long this mass might last. I would really like to attend(I have not been to a TLM before). However, we have a two month old who tends to be somewhat active during the day.

It will probably last about 2 hours. Refreshments will be available after the mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 1555 Grant.

Don’t worry too much about your 2 year old. There will be many children and infants in attendance, and the newly renovated narthexat the cathedral is pretty sound-proof if your little one gets too fussy. As a general rule, latin mass people are very friendly to children. Large families are common.

John, I attended the FSSP’s EF mass at the cathedral a month or so back, and that was at least 90m, if not 2h. A pontifical mass will certainly take at least that long. I’m out of the state this weekend, I hope all who attend enjoy it.
