“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”

PLEASE subscribe via PayPal if it is useful. Zelle and Wise are better, but PayPal is convenient.
A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Prayer Before Using The Internet HERE
Almighty and eternal God, who created us in Thine image and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Thine Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, Bishop and Doctor, during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
I wonder if there\’s a Cafe Press tee shirt with that cartoon on it?
Father, how un-diverse of you.
Don’t you know that the people in hell are just practicing loyal dissent? [They’ll have a long time to practice.]
It’s like trying to use the “sandwich rule” on a paper I’m giving an “F” to:
“Thanks for turning in your assignment! You have done a great effort here. You’ve demonstrated the grammatical abilities of a first grader, the reasoning of a marijuana addict and the research talents of a plagiarist. But at leaset you got the paper in two days late. Good job!”
Last year, I saw an old _Funky Winkerbean_ on a colleague’s door: Les is doing report cards . Another teacher says, “You gave this kid an ‘F’ but you wrote, ‘I really appreciate all your hard work!'”
Les says, “That’s because, at the beginning of the class, I said they’d have to work really hard to get an ‘F’ in my class.”
Don’t you know that the people in hell are just practicing loyal dissent?
Actually, don’t you know that hell is just made-up, like the way grown-ups make up Santa so kids behave? Everyone goes to heaven, or so I’ve been told by theologically liberal types.
Which makes no sense. If God gives us free will, and we freely choose not to have a relationship with Him, at the end of our lives, He’s not going to say, “Gee, well, you didn’t want to know me in life, but come to Heaven and enjoy!” Why would God give us free will now only to thwart it when we die by taking us to Heaven when we’ve made it clear we want nothing to do with Him?
I swear, you spend time here at my office.
…No reprieve, except perhaps, for the humor.
But Father, But Father, wh would such a caring God create a place like Hell?
just kidding

We’ve been so moddycoddled and comfortable for decades here in the US that somehow hell even as a word has become not only irrelevant but impolite, like talking about dung at a feast.
Perhaps that is about to change radically. With life becoming more and more severe it will become easier and easier to extrapolate one’s way forward to an understanding that eternal privation and severity is a very real possibility. “If God allows THIS, then it is obvious He will allow THAT.”
So it was that I returned to the Church forty-five years ago, with the reality of Hell firmly in place as the foundation on which my own Credo arose, brick by brick.
After all, if there is no Hell, why in the world do we need a Savior or all the discipline He wishes to impose on us, or the grace of the Sacraments? It is the very raison d’etre of the Church.
And as priests emerge stunned and appalled from besieged confessionals and work their way through the crowds to the altar and then to the pulpit, it may be that they will find it not only easy to talk about hell, but difficult not to.
I once worked in a place with a boss who might have uttered the same line to the minions as old Horn-Head.
Now that I think of it, it would have been a close, three-way race between that line, “The beatings will continue until morale improves!”, and a Mr. Rourke-like “Smiles, everybody, smiles!”
I agree with Lee’s comment that as things in the world worsen, we may all regain a sense of hell — beyond the brief bubble in religious practice that followed the World Trade Towers. And if something truly dreadful happens that is tied to religion — the fulfilment of a prophecy out of Medjugorje, for example — then Confession may make a big comeback.
I would highly recommend the MP3s on hell by Fr. Chad Ripperger which can be downloaded for a penance here.
Weird that link didn’t load. scroll down to the sermons on hell from here.

Please, please ask your fellow priests, Father Z, to talk about hell from the pulpit. My homeschooling friends are the only ones I know who are instructing their children in “fear of the Lord”. The local Catholic schools and the CCD do not seem to ever touch on the subject.
Hey Rob-I saw that sign in one of my last jobs….it was on a file cabinet in the local CATHOLIC bookstore! The owner’s an ND grad, but a ‘Call to Action’ liberal.
