I have prayed for him. This also reminds me of another great loss to us, Fr. Richard John Neuhaus. The first anniversary of his death is coming soon. The loss of these two giants coming after the horrible election results made the end of last year a particularly difficult time.
I went to his burial Mass this past June at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville. He now rests in the Jesuit cemetery behind the shrine. And his headstone is different from his brethrens’-it’s wider because it mentions his elevation to the Cardinalate and the church in Rome where he was Cardinal-deacon. So whenever I visited the shrine, I almost always made my way to his grave to pay my respects.
Wow-a year already has passed-amazing!
I agree with you Melania….
Cardinal Dulles wrote some wonderfully edifying things. We have been blessed by God to have the writings of this man.
Father,
I have a wonderful picture of myself and Cardinal Dulles taken at the Anglican Use Conference in Scranton three years ago.
I was very impressed at how gracious and approachable His Eminence was. During the conference he twice spent about ten to fifteen minutes chatting with me. We talked at length about the upcoming new translation of the Novus Ordo and what was then the rumor of Summorum Pontificum.
About the anticipated liberation of the TLM, when I asked him directly if he knew anything, he replied, “I don’t know, but it certainly looks as if that’s what the Holy Father wants. We shall see.”
On the other hand, he said he thought on account of the upcoming new translation that the Anglican Use liturgy had a dim future. He thought that because of the elevated and more accurate language of the coming translation, combined with the fact that the N.O. can be celebrated with all the “bells and smells,” that the AU would eventually be left without its raison d’etre.
His Eminence’s prophetical record turned out a little mixed.
May he rest in peace.
It is a long tradition to pray for the dead on the 3rd day after death, 30th day and 1st year.
The only people I am aware of doing this are the Orthodox.
Does the Catholic Church have ceremonies to accompany these rememberances?
The former head of our deanery,a dissident priest, at a Theology in the Pub gathering used Cdl Dulles’ models of Church article to spruke that the Church should change. Does anyone know if Cdl Dulles ever modified the views expressed in that article? If so, are the re thinkings online?
I recommend the little book he wrote about his conversion. It’s wonderful.

us Ukrainian Greek Catholics do it… I think (Latin rite) Polish people might do it as well but I’m not sure
