Here are a few shots from the feeder, which has been busy today, during a heavy slushy snow.
Despite his appearance, this Nuthatch does not turn up his nose at much of anything.
This Goldfinch is hopping mad about the presence of this chickadee and pretty much chased it around the edge of the feeder.

Penjing still has nothing much to say.
Irohamomiji, the Japanese Maple, lost a lot of leaves, but there are more budding out. Penzai, the Chinese Elm, also lost a great many leaves, which was alarming, but they have mostly grown back.
Readers have also helped with supplies for repotting, which is overdue in the case of Penjing. And the Maple really needs a new home as well.

We had to cut back financially and stop feeding the birds, which is a great sadness for our family. The finches have gone elsewhere. Thanks so much for your photos, as they bring great joy to us. I hope and pray you get lots of donations for our little feathered friends.
Supertradmom: Indeed, the birds eat from the donations people send in. And they are really diligent in coming to the feeders!

This morning I used some walnuts and homemade maple syrup.
I like to throw in a few pieces of cut-up apple in addition to some raisins or craisins, along with nuts, cinnamon, and some maple (real) syrup. Specially good on really cold days, of which we have had a few (although it has moderated somewhat lately).

Got pouring rain outside the library window-the temperature here is in the upper 40s! I’m glad for the rain-as long as it doesn’t freeze-then all the crappy snow will disappear!
