What an irony it is that such espionage is actually taking place. I would like to watch whatever it is you’re watching. I wonder if it could be found on Hulu.
What is even more ironic. Is that this comes out right after Obama reset relations with Russia. Seems more like someone or group doesn’t want peace, between the US and Russia.
In undergrad I started taking Russian as my foreign language requirement.(We didn’t have latin :P) My History Degree focus was also on US & Russian relations, throughout history. People questioned those decisions… I told them Russia will always play a “role” in things and it would be good to know. They would scoff and say, “The Cold War is over.”
My response was…”No it isn’t.”
There was an article in the telegraph laughing at the ‘spies’ in question for being so dim
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/adrianmichaels/100045292/useless-russian-spies-were-like-bad-office-colleagues-everywhere/
One of the “experts” on a news show last night said that the level of this type of activity is greater than during the “Cold War”. You are correct “angelsdefendus”!
Very well known representatives of your society, such as George Kennan, say: we cannot apply moral criteria to politics. Thus we mix good and evil, right and wrong and make space for the absolute triumph of absolute Evil in the world. On the contrary, only moral criteria can help the West against communism’s well planned world strategy. There are no other criteria. Practical or occasional considerations of any kind will inevitably be swept away by strategy. After a certain level of the problem has been reached, legalistic thinking induces paralysis; it prevents one from seeing the size and meaning of events.
above from Solzhenitsyn’s Harvard Address
He also stated that the West cannot really have “detente” with Russia, in a warning given in a speech to the (ironically) AFL-CIO–
I would like to call upon America to be more
careful with its trust and prevent those wise
persons who are attempting to establish even finer
degrees of justice and even finer legal shades of
equality – some because of their distorted
outlook, others because of short-sightedness and
still others out of self interest – from falsely
using the struggle for peace and for social
justice to lead you down a false road. Because
they are trying to weaken you; they are trying to
disarm your strong and magnificent country in the
face of this fearful threat – one which has never
been seen before in the history of the world.
And, finally, the great man said that the West could never have detente with Russia, as one could not have detente with evil.
Atheistic communism is alive and well and coming to America through our own government. Spying is a game which is intriguing (no pun intended) but can be a smoke screen to what is really happening in our own upper echelons
Even friends like France and Israel have spies in the United States, not just old enemies.
From what I’ve read, this spy ring was very junior. The participants were not in the same league as archetypal Cold War agents.
Of course those who are guilty need to be punished, but we have to keep this event in perspective by framing it in the broader context of modern political interactions. And, we need to be realistic and understand US spies are in Russia and Russian satellites.
SuperTradMom brings up a critical point to this: modern
political brinkmanship is guided by no code remotely compatible with Christianity. But I would add that our country has not followed Truth for quite a while.
While Russia still deals with nearly a century of communist barbarism, and a lengthy time of eclesiastic schism, America is deeply steeped in a toxic brew of Freemasonry, Calvinism, and materialism/Mammonism.
So it’s not, for me, so clear a picture as to who is the Good Guys or if there really is a discernible one at all.
