I’m not sure who the taller one is, carrying the cross. But the other is Br. Chad McCoy, S.J.C.. He is always leading our youngsters in these kinds of beautiful, peaceful witnesses for life around the city. This was done by a group of youngsters at our parish, St. John Cantius. There are many wonderful priests and brothers there. God bless you for your prayers.

Anyone know what happened when the balloons reached a height where they popped, because of the reduced air pressure and concomitant expansion of the gases, and the wooden cross fell to earth?

This is SOOOOO needed. I am so grateful to whomever organized this wonderful event. Yesterday the lead article in the New York Times Magazine was about “pregnancy reduction.” No, it’s not about reducing the number of pregnancies. It’s about reduction from twins (or more) to a “singleton” as they define it. It was the one of the most horrifying things I have ever read. These mothers want to be “good mothers” and they just can’t do it if they have more than one baby. Many of them, of course, got pregnant by using IVF, and now they want to get rid of their “surplus” babies. The “surplus” is killed with a short of hydrochloric acid in the chest, and the mother must carry the dead baby along with her still living baby until she gives birth. It is evil beyond words. And the worst part is – they know exactly what they are doing! They know they are killing their children. This was the give-away paragraph:
The fact that they use the words “lives and dies” tells me they know this is murder. This is Sophie’s Choice, without the humanity of Sophie. Our society is evil beyond words. We need the rosaries to never stop. God have mercy on us all. I am at the point where I think the evil in our world has gone beyond the breaking point. We make Nazi Germany look like pikers. Hitler would envy us.

What a novel, positive idea! Perhaps it can be repeated in other cities. Of course, it wouldn’t be novel any more, but it would still be positive.
Rob: If I had to take a guess I bet its not wooden and maybe cardboard or even foam. Still, I’m interested in knowing what happened to the cross as well.

I know, I know… bleeding heart… but it’s true. St. Francis would’ve asked, too. Ha ha. Seems like other readers are of like mind… ‘specially with the giant cross.
Yes, probably a foam cross, judging by the size and ease the good padre is carrying it. If they played their weights right, they could’ve filled it with just enough helium to float at a limited range of altitude, so it would never go too far up or down!
I would love for it to have, say, tangled up in a powerline by a Planned Parenthood clinic in another state…
It looks like they made it to float out over Lake Michigan, at which point it could safely rise and fall without hurting anything. (Since it went from the Wrigley Building out past the beach.)
