Catholic League: Pres. Obama adds insult to injury

From The Catholic League:

OBAMA’S PLOY ADDS INSULT TO INJURY

February 10, 2012

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on President Obama’s revised healthcare plan as it affects Catholic institutions:

President Obama’s latest ploy just adds insult to injury. If the insurance plan of a Catholic institution must cover services it deems immoral, then such a healthcare plan is offensive, plain and simple.

The Catholic League, for example, uses Christian Brothers as its insurance carrier. So if a future employee of ours were to demand free abortion-inducing drugs, and she is allowed to request free drugs from Christian Brothers, then the rest of us would, in effect, be subsidizing her abortion. This is outrageous and will not stand judicial scrutiny.

When it comes to the First Amendment, there is no such thing as a half loaf. We want now, and in the future, the same rights we have enjoyed since the beginning of the republic.

The Obama ploy is also cynical: its effect is to peel off liberal Catholic opposition to Obamacare. In other words, the old divide and conquer strategy is in play. But it won’t work as nicely as they think: there are too many practicing Catholics who will only be impelled to revolt.

Obama has decided to turn up the heat. He’ll soon see how hot things get when Catholics team with Protestants, Jews, Mormons and others to recapture their First Amendment rights. Indeed, President Obama will now be remembered as the president who brought the culture war to a boil.

Mr. Donohue gets it right. 100%!!! I’ve been saying this all morning. Actually, I will go out on a limb and say that this is worse than before, becuase it doesn’t just fall on the employer, now it falls on employees as well, even if they don’t want to participate.

What Mr. Obama is doing is UN-Consititutional. What Mr. Obama is doing is unprecedented. There is nothing that he can do short of abandonment which will be acceptable.

Contact your congressman, contact your senator. Tell them that this is unacceptable.

    Then pray.

Thank God for Bill Donohue! One sometimes wishes he were writing the releases for the USCCB. This is one of those times.

  3. Joseph-Mary says:

I just hope our bishops do not fall for specious ploys. Liars always lie….

“I just hope our bishops do not fall for specious ploys.”

Probably too late, if the initial release from the USCCB is any indication.

  5. tcreek says:

Obama simple wants to give Catholics, especially teens, the same choice he gives to his daughters. If they mess around they should have free access to contraceptives so as not “to be punished with a child”.

Please pardon the pop-up, should one arise:

Catholics Not Fooled Over Accounting Gimmick.

  7. Sword40 says:

This President could be accused of treason, if it comes to it. Until that time we’ll have to fight with the tools available to us. (and PRAY)

This healthcare mandate by the administration is just the latest in a number of laws our President has enacted that violate our Constitution, a document which he vowed under oath to protect. Yet the media and public have remained relatively silent and acquiescent, time after time. As far as this healthcare law, most Americans seem to view
it as a Catholic issue. Looking at comments to news articles on the subject invariably turns up the usual bitter responses of ” serves them right” and refers to the Church’s sex scandal, or talks about other issues that are not relevant. Furthermore, people such Nancy Pelosi, who call themselves Catholic, only muddy the waters for mainstream America, who really doesn’t know the difference. When I tell my friends that this is a threat and danger to their own rights and to write their Congressperson, whether they’re Catholic or not, they respond that I am being over dramatic and there really is no problem: this is America, after all. Considering how little most people bother educating themselves on the issues and the quality of the news that is offered, it is not surprising that Washington continues along without considering any repercussions for their actions. Otherwise, the streets would be filled with hundreds of thousands of protestors to stop this.

Bishop’s Dolan’s first response on the USCCB website is truly horrifying. Mary, Mother of God, help us!! [Calm down. First, it’s Archbishop Dolan. Second, if you actually read what he said, he indicates that the USCCB doesn’t consider this to be over. It is a first step. Clearly the USCCB expects more from the White House than this.]

And “Sister” Keehan needs one of those Canon 915 mugs, too. As they say in Texas, “upside the head”.

  11. HyacinthClare says:

Thank you for the correction, Father. I am VERY upset, but I will calm down.

Obama has simply proven, once again, that in his view the end justifies the means. This is not an “accomodation” or a “compromise”. It is nothing more than the arrogant dictator being Machiavellian like he always is. His defiance of the U S Constitution (which by the way he supposedly swore to uphold) should be grounds enough for his impeachment. Any, and I repeat ANY so-called Catholic cleric or not who lauds this move needs a course in logic. Obama has no respect for religion (remember he equates that with worship) or the rights of any religion (his only religion being secularism) to freely practice. This, and he the evil one, are disgusting.

The Church absolutely has been right on the issue of birth control.

For those who wish to learn why the Church is correct on this issue, an excellent commentary and further resource links can be found here:

I’m with dep on this one-I wish that Bill Donohue (that good old Irish pit bull…’Sic’em Bill!’) would have written the USCCB’s response to Obama’s hogwash. HE (that is, Donohue, of course) would NOT pull any punches!
