I have been working piecemeal when I have had the time throughout the past year to put a lawn in my backyard. I finally spread the seed yesterday and have enjoyed watching the sprinkler run while my two little sons learn about this whole new way to get wet.
I’m a 22 year old seminarian; my first year is wrapping up, the weather is getting very beautiful, and I’ve received word that I’ll be advancing to Theology I after this summer, which will involve a hospital internship.
I hope this suffices as good news, Father. ;)

It’s for the re-publication of my first novel. I’m over the moon. I love that book. This is so awesome.
Our younger son made his First Holy Communion yesterday. Our homeschool group received the Sacrament together in the chapel of a cloistered monastery. The ordinary form was sung in Latin and English. So beautiful.
Today is my very last day of seminary. In 33 days I will ordained!
I am happy to have joined the Schola for our local Mass in the Extraordinary Form.
My son, a freshman Classical Languages major, participated in a Latin translation competition a couple weeks ago. Last week he was informed that he won the competition and will receive a very decent cash prize. Good news indeed for a poor college student.
He also auditioned and was accepted as an Organ Performance Minor.
I heeded your suggestion to make a thorough examination of conscience and discovered an outstanding matter that needed to be addressed. I was having issues figuring out a way to deal with it and my confessor was quite helpful with giving me alternative options.
Three things!
#1. Our second son is graduating from college this coming Saturday, along with his lovely fiance!
#2. After working the entire school year on teaching my little Catholic school choir to sing in head voice with a beautiful tone (rather than the Broadway “Annie-type” shouty voice they were used to), they finally get it. They have sung beautifully at Mass the past three weeks, even singing some lovely chant alone after communion.
#3. The college Catholic Campus Music Ministry with which I assist as accompanist performed a Sacred Concert at the Shrine Church in our town last Saturday to a full church. Twelve college students, wonderful young people who love Jesus, sang their hearts out (Sicut cervus, Ubi caritas, Pie Jesu, All Creature of our God and King, among other selections). I was privileged to play a wonderful organ! Afterward there was a lovely reception on the porch of what used to be the convent and is now church offices. The weather was great and people stayed and stayed to visit. Just a lovely, lovely evening!
Congratulations all around, where appropriate, and especially to the soon-to-be Fr. beez. (though I’d suggest a new nickname for after ordination, or at least capitalizing the first letter; just ‘beez’ doesn’t seem to fit too well with your new station :p)
PS: @DoS.SemT : a hospital internship for Theology I?! I can well imagine that a hospital internship would be part of the seminary ciriculum, but for Theology I I’d rather expect an extended stay in the library.
12 more weeks until baby boy #2 arrives! Hubby and I are excited.
Our pastor announced that the tabernacle will be moved out of a side chapel to its rightful place! He said that the Cardinal asked this be done to help the parish have a renewed sense of the Eucharist at the center of our worship.
I’m engaged to be married!
My twin sons had their First Communion on Saturday. Then our family celebrated a beautiful Anglican Use Mass on Sunday.
Singing the Nicene Creed, saying the Prayer of Humble Access and kneeling to receive in both kinds, all with a son on my left and my Dad on my right – ineffable joy!
My family was blessed to attend a three mile May Procession in Sacramento, CA. There was a Scottish bagpipe band, about 60 altar boys (including two of my own sons), and it was a beautiful day. An incredible Solemn High Mass followed at the cathedral. There’s nothing better than seeing a traditional Mass in a gorgeous cathedral with a fabulous choir, etc. It was the closest thing to Heaven on earth on Saturday.
The past weeks have been amazing. Moved from a studentsroom to a nice appartment, started with my training to become a rehabilitationdoctor last week..but the best: I got engaged and preparing for a catholic marriage :D
I am going to start a Young Adult group at my parish/neighboring parishes and have the backing of both priests in the area along with the seminarian assigned to our parish. I feel the Holy Spirit has been very specific in pointing me in this direction and I’m hoping that we have moderate success. If you could pray for me, that would be great!
It looks like NC is going to protect Marriage.
On Friday I got an entrance date (as well as a list of things to bring) for the community I hope, God willing, to enter!!! (Only 4 more months! I’m so excited!!!!! :D)

My daughter and her husband were approved for their house loan and they moved into their first ever owned house last Saturday. He will now be 20 minutes away from work instead of an hour and a half.
She also told us she is expecting baby #6 in November. (this will be our grandchild #13). Please say a prayer for her. She is 43 and I worry about her.

My good news is my nephew’s son has just made his First Holy Communion on Sunday, and in every way it was wonderful. Even the SUN came out, after many a dismal day in late April and May. Father was excellent, just hitting the right notes, and his words to the children could not have been better. The CCD program has been beyond all expectations, with Deacon’s wife teaching actual Catholic Catechism, not the butterflies and rainbows my son learned in the 1980’s. My little nephew, dressed up in his finery, hands folded in prayer while waiting in line with the other candidates, all of it, perfection. He was so serious, and at one point, his little hands moved into the “receiving” position, as he practiced receiving the sacrament for the first time.
About 20 children received the Blessed Sacrament for the first time this past Sunday, at our church. Please God, bless all these innocent children and keep all evil from them.
Was invited and was able to attend the Sunday matinee performance of The Suffering of The Innocents – A Symphonic Homage and Prayer” at Symphony Hall in Boston.
Our son [headed for Wyoming Catholic College in the fall] & his debate partner (both novice team debaters) won at enough homeschooler team policy debate tournaments this year to qualify to compete in the National Invitational Tournament of Champions in Colorado Springs in June. They also had the distinction of being the only team at the recent tournament in San Diego to defeat the tournament champions along the way. I swear: team policy debate is the Olympics of homeschooling! I cannot say enough good things about its holistic educational benefits.
Also, another member of our tiny club [also headed for Wyoming Catholic College in the fall] won 3rd place for her Expository speech on the Shroud of Turin. This is a Major Score because it was a very daring foray, of sorts, into ProtestantLand. Our team has 2 of the 3 (count ’em: 3!) Catholic families among hundreds of otherwise entirely Protestant ones in this west coast league (wherein they even have a popular speech division called ‘Apologetics’ — well, Protestant Apologetics, that is.) I happened to see both adult judges and other student competitors watch with mouths agape at this compelling 10-min. presentation (with photos, boards, and props) on the Shroud. She, too, will compete at the National Championship with this speech.
Probably the most edifying thing: she did it to instruct and benefit her fellow student speakers from her own research — not to win! So she was surprised to have done so well with a talk about a relic in such a strongly Protestant league.
Viva the Catholic voice in the public square! And thank God for giving us relics to exhibit His mysterious power and underscore His Holy Word!
