I was listening to Bill Bennett this morning (Hi, Dr. Bennett!) and heard one of his readers make a great but scary point.
The feckless Pres. Obama we heard last night in the debate is the same feckless Pres. Obama who talks to world leaders.

But, I’m thinking for most of them, as long as they have their free cell phones, contraceptives, and 3 hots on our dime, it would not matter if he had green goo coming out of his eye sockets…they’d still pull the lever next to his name.
The fortunate part to that is that other world leaders are even more feckless.
Eh, that poor empty chair cannot help it that Obama is supposed to sit on it… though as a graphical illustration of the state of POTUS’ policy and ideas, it certainly works. However, knowing Fr. Z.’s love for a certain type of rodents, I’d rather expected him to make the comparison to a roadkill-squirrel. Or are we saving that for November 7th?
BobP, that ain’t fortunate. That’s downright out the wazoo mind-blowingly scary-frightening, if it’s true.
Fortunately, I don’t think it is. Whatever the other world leaders might be, most of them are not feckless. And they had Barack Hussein Obama’s sized up pretty early on.
Now, if you wanted more feckless, try American journalists. You wanna see feckless? That’s feckless to the trillionth power.
Well, I guess if the Norwegian Nobel Prize committee members count as “other world leaders” I guess they’d be more feckless than Barack Hussein Obama. But not more feckless than American journolists.
I watched parts of the the first hour of the debate, but switched it off about an hour into it as it was becoming an occasion of sin. Seemed to me that BHO was his usual self – petulant, arrogant, outrageously dishonest and extremely left-wing – if just a bit less polished for his lack of a script. Apparently that thin veneer of polished speech is what most people usually notice about him. Unfortunately it seemed to me that Governor Romney was too timid and too much of a soft echo of BHO’s rhetoric from four years ago. I earnestly hope that my perceptions were inaccurate.
There just isn’t much feck anywhere in public life these days, is there?
I must say that after watching that hot mess and the ensuing stampede of confusion by the liberal media (“Where was Obama? He looked disinterested.”), I finally felt vindicated for the many years of suffering this fool in the news and hearing the lauds of his mighty intellect.
He embodies the anecdote- “C’s get degrees”-
which is why I suspect his transcripts have never been released.
That said, I thought Chris Matthews was going to have a stroke during his on air frothing at the mouth post debate analysis.
These people cannot say they weren’t warned. Any shock is due to their own naive belief that Obama is the smartest greatest man to grace us with his presence.
I was engrossed in the drama last night…. the history of it…. the courage and confidence he had at the plate. The first man to win the triple crown in baseball. ‘Cabby’ was impressive all season.
The only question that comes to my mind in watching a political debate, is which man fears God? I guess that’s my biggest problem with rallying behind either of the candidates. I don’t think either of them fear the Lord. That is the greatest deficit of our representational government, both local and national. What would our country be like if we actually elected representatives who feared God?
I thought Romney was nearly perfect. It was going to be a difficult task to unveil Obama as a liar and show him for an incompetent, without looking like a bully or angry as Obama is constantly taking pot shots at him and telling Romney what Romney’s own positions are. Meanwhile bringing much of the US just tuning in up to speed with what Romney is actually proposing.
Might be it was a miracle, might be it wasn’t enough, but it was darn good and very sincere.
Didn’t see all of the debate last night, but the bit I did…ehem. Obama is so very arrogant it is sometimes sickening. He obviously seems to think that since he is the President, he didn’t have to shut up when Jim Lehrer told him to shut up.
I noticed Obama rarely actually looked into the camera. During the closing remarks, (especially) Romney was looking at the camera and you could sense that he was actually talking to you. Obama seemed kind of distant, like he was just talking AT people, as opposed to TO people. Strange, he shouldn’t find it hard to actually look into people’s eyes and lie, he’s had so much practice the past four years.
I loved how Romney talked about God too. He might not be perfect, but he is a canonized saint next to Obama.
Dies Irae, I noted too that Romney went out of his way to mention that it is our Creator who endows us with rights. I liked that, considering Obama goes out of his way to remove “Creator” when mentioning that line. Bush always struggled with teleprompters, but seemed to really connect when speaking off the cuff. Obama is just the opposite. He really struggled last night. His closing statement, which you would think would be the most rehearsed segment of the debate, was disjointed and inarticulate. I did catch this while watching it:
“And everybody’s getting a fair shot. And everybody’s getting a fair share — everybody’s doing a fair share, and everybody’s playing by the same rules.”
He stumbled along there, realized he slipped, and quickly tried to recover. Oops!
HeatherPA, that’s exactly how I felt: vindicated. Well, for all the sycophants who were disappointed in how poorly their little emperor performed, Al Gore has the explanation. High altitude!!!!!!!! Yeah, that’s the ticket.

We (“we” being anyone who wants Obama defeated this November) need to storm heaven and pray that this first debate woke people up about Obama, and that Romney continues to wipe the floor with Obama in the next two debates.
The mainstream media, Hollywood and all other such sycophants can manipulate and lie. A live, straightforward debate can’t. Hopefully those who’ve been blinded by glowing, deceptive praise about Obama and deceptive attacks about Romney (though honestly, I’m not pro-Romney as much as I am anti-Obama) will figure out the truth and act on it.
I didn’t watch the debates, but if the mainstream media and other liberals conclude and admit publicly that Romney beat Obama handily in this debate, you know the Obama machine is in overdrive to undo the damage, knives are out, and the left is going make things much uglier and deceitful through the election. I still think the election is Obama’s to lose because the idolatry about him that’s been fostered for the past 4 years and will be tough to kill as it runs deep, but I will offer daily prayers and my Rosaries for his defeat nevertheless.

Sissy, I hope Romney was just warming up. We don’t need another McCain, mild and soft. We need a centurion, girded, provisioned, and well armed. A conqueror who will leave no doubt whatever in the minds of his audience that he is capable, reasoned, and determined.
I heard about the “high altitude, low air” excuse. I figure Obama’s an airhead, he brought his own supply.
Th Obama media adoration journalists who will be conducting the rest of the debates will be trying to destroy Romney all by themselves while asking Obama about the weather that day.
You can hear it in their reactions the day after the debate. Apparently there were many many reasons that Obama did not do well–but non of them were Obama himself of course.
I regret I was not able to see the debate. However, I did check the internet shortly thereafter. Even the liberal media and Obama supporters admitted he did poorly and reluctantly conceded that Romney did very well. By the next morning, however, the tone had changed, the damage control went into full gear, and the excuses and lies started. I am sure that soon the debate and Romney’s success will be buried in all the flotsam and jetsam of misinformation that clutters that MSM, and we will be back to the usual garbage reporting.
One of the indicators of a persons character is how he accepts losing. Here again, Obama showed his stripes, as he made nasty excuses about Romney’s strong performance versus his own insipid one.
I really cannot understand the blind admiration this man generates. O. could have come out wearing a clown suit and his followers would come up with a valid reason. Denial is an extremely strong emotion, it seems. But in this case, so much is at stake, it’s scary that people can’t recognize what is right in front of of their eyes. I sincerely hope that Romney does well in the next debate, but as long as we have an American public that doesn’t bother to educate itself, the MSM will continue to control this election.

I think that’s a good point.
My kid and I were watching clips and she noted President Obama’s body language — he often put his head down, stooped his shoulders. Honestly, it looked for all the world to me like he was trying to give the impression he was being beaten up on. It’s an interesting tactic — vote for me because my opponent is a big meanie, and I’m guessing if that was the approach there was not a small amount of paternalistic leftist racism appealed to, also. I like to think that’s nuts, of course.
Altitude is a substantial factor in endurance, as is dehydration, sleep deprivation, acid reflux, an ingrown toenail. . .
I remember my dad as a Marine officer, they had “games” where they had to direct fake events over the course of, I can’t remember, 72 hours? They weren’t allowed any real sleep during that time, the idea being to simulate battlefield conditions where you were making decisions and taking action when not able to have ideal circumstances for thinking and perceiving. It makes a great deal of sense, our commanding officers, and the Commander in Chief, of course, should be able to make competent decisions and, well, put together coherent sentences even when they haven’t had a balanced meal and 9 hours uninterrupted sleep.
I have to run my life at high altitude, and I am awake two to seven times every single night. Have been for over three years. Every breastfeeding mother goes about a year without a night’s sleep. I know fathers who work two jobs, twelve hours a day with commutes. Life comes with stresses, I hate to think what further damage it would do to the country if we all took the “it was the altitude” excuse to heart!
wmeyer, I think what we saw Wednesday night from Romney was the real deal. As one of his former primary opponents said ” The grown-up has shown up”. I’m looking forward to next week’s debate between Ryan and Biden, too!
The problem is what my dear old dad always calls “believing your own press releases”. Everybody has been telling the President that he is the Second Coming of Lincoln, and he was foolish enough to believe them. But when you surround yourself with flatterers and sycophants, that’s what you get.
Another pearl of wisdom from my dad: Truly competent leaders surround themselves with the best lieutenants and advisers they can find. The incompetent surround themselves with flatterers and people that they believe are not as smart as they are, because their self-esteem always needs shoring up. It’s a recipe for disaster.
I don’t know what in the world is going to happen with Ryan and Biden . . . . I don’t see any strategy that the Dems can adopt that could salvage Slow Joe. He’s affable enough, but au fond he is just a career hack politician from Delaware. No offense to the Blue Hens.
And, speaking of altitude, we went to a dude ranch one summer outside Grand Junction CO that was around 10,000 feet.
I was a good deal younger in those days, but the day we arrived I was out in the corral helping the wranglers shoe a couple of recalcitrant horses. Got a bit out of breath, but it didn’t seem to affect my reflexes or my thinking.
