PODCAzT 155: Latin Forms of Absolution, Vetus and Novus Ordo

confession-731x1024From a priest….

QUAERITUR:

Fr. Z,

Grace and peace.

Do you have an audio pronunciation of the absolution prayer (1962) or know of a link?

Thanks for the question.

Here is a brief PODCAzT, which can also be a PRAYERCAzT, about the forms of absolution, in Latin.  I hope this is helpful.

Great! When I went to Confession at St. Kevin’s church in Dublin (before attending a Latin mass), Father asked me if I wanted the absolution in English or Latin. I said, “Latin, please!”

    Julia_Augusta,

The formula of absolution is different even if it’s done in Latin. The essential part, is the same, but in the older form, there are very distinct differences. When I used to go to a priest at the Anglican Use Ordinariate for Confession he would give absolution in Latin, but it would be the new form with the additional Passio Domini prayer added at the end.
