About this blog…
“This blog is like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” – Fr. Z

Wonderful about St. Joseph! “Terror of Demons”
- The most evident mark of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clerics who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than the charity and affection of devoted shepherds.

This REALLY helps! And it’s great coffee (and tea)
I use this when I travel both in these USA and abroad. Very useful. Fast enough for Zoom. I connect my DMR (ham radio) through it. If you use my link, they give me more data. A GREAT back up.
Get ready…
Don’t rely on popes, bishops and priests.
“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”- Fulton Sheen

- “The modern habit of doing ceremonial things unceremoniously is no proof of humility; rather it proves the offender's inability to forget himself in the rite, and his readiness to spoil for every one else the proper pleasure of ritual.”

As for Latin…
"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II

Let us pray…
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

GREAT causes to support
Cheers to that. This simple post is the most hopeful thing I’ve read in the past couple days.
Thank you.
Amen. The true Faith shines brightest in the darkest night.
Yes indeedy, thank you Fr. Z. We feel the same way. There have been plenty of role models, including good, holy priests. These times are especially hard on them.
Yes.
Saint Peter Damian, pray for us!
There is another disturbing allegation I saw on Rorate Caeli blog about someone who it sounds like should have been sentenced to prayer and serious penance and instead was appointed to a high up role.
SAINT PETER DAMIAN, PRAY FOR US!
Many thanks for this, Father Z! I very much needed this reminder of hope after having earlier today read of the latest ‘art’ project permitted by our new Bishop (of whom you wrote some months ago) to grace the temporary facade of our cathedral: „Solange Gott einen Bart hat, bin ich Feminist“ (http://www.tt.com/panorama/gesellschaft/14630174-91/feminismus-in-der-kirche-vor-einigen-jahren-noch-unvorstellbar.csp).
Right there with you Father. Thanks for the image that expresses so much.
Thank you, Faher. Picture says it all.
Holy Mother of God, please protect the Church from the wolves.
My inspiration recently has been the various images of Christ Cleansing the Temple.
When we ask WWJD, overturning table and whipping people is a viable option.
One can only remember Our Lady’s prophecy at Fatima, in the end, Her Immaculate Heart will Triumph! Seems like we are living in a time Her Triumph is so badly needed.
Our Lady of Fatima Pray for Us!!!
Amen.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
Great photo! Where was it taken?
Thanks for that, Fr. Z! It sums it up, for me. In the ‘first round’ of scandals in 2001/2 I basically lost my Faith, scorned it, stopped practising, going to mass, ridiculing it, etc. In fact, I did what I could to to denigrate and pull down the Faith, too. In the process, I believe, I turned the rest of my family off “religion”. Over the last 2-3 years I’ve returned to the Faith, feel stronger and more robust in both understanding, appreciation and practice. Sadly, the rest of my family doesn’t. I can only live by my example as “talking” about it only causes friction at home, now, and realize the consequences of my sneering and mockery. For what has happened in my past I have no control over, I can only pick my way through the pieces and rebuild one day at a time. It will all come together in God’s good time not mine. For this “second round” of scandals? I will not let these rancid perverts in high authority affect me again. With God’s Good grace I feel like I am walking and living amongst ruins pictured EXACTLY as the one you’ve included.
In a nut shell.
The blitz ain’t over.
Keep flack jackets at hand and helmets on.
Hopefully the individuals who require a shaking up will have there feet on the ground and perceive what is transpiring. Up to now they appear to be oblivious and hanging in a hammock. Or maybe there is an element who perceives this as the proper moment for more undermining of the perennial Magisterium? Don’t put it past them.

Well that took the mystery out of things.
No wonder Cardinal Concubinage Ticona raised so few eyebrows. He barely sticks out in the crowd. With the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report to be released in a few weeks who knows what we will be swimming in.
Elizabeth D, do you know the name of the appointed person?
bibi1003, there is a particular name being alleged on the internet and let’s not state it here, known facts imply it may be true but we don’t have the evidence. Rorate is apparently attempting to pursue it with the Vatican.
“Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem like nothing in your eyes? But now take courage . . .all you people . . .and work! For I am with you says the Lord of Hosts. . . . Greater will be the future glory of this house than the former, says the Lord of Hosts.” Aggai 2:3 et ff.
Yes, I remember the church packed Mass after Mass on Sunday morning as the ushers went up and down the aisles to find a space somewhere for latecomers to squeeze in, and people left standing in the back. I remember our Catholic schools overflowing with children and the wonderful nuns who taught us. I remember priests thundering God’s law from the pulpit with great authority, the confession lines on Saturday night, the Friday abstinence, the Eucharistic fast from midnight, the Lenten fast, all the disciplines of a holy people, the family rosary, the missions given by saintly priests, the prevalence of grace, a priesthood respected and heeded,
But now, a priest saying Mass in a bombed out German church is the perfect image of our situation. Now, all is shame and loss. Loss after loss after loss. Heartrending unending shame.
And yet, not far in the future, it is easy, very easy to imagine and even foresee the Divine “twitch upon the thread.” Things are being set up, permitted, aligned and positioned to bring about massive repentance. Yes, I think we will see it in our lifetimes.
My new QRZ.com pic and computer screen background.
Thank you Father.
I pray for courageous priests.
