CHRISTUS RESURREXIT.
We were visiting Wash DC this Easter and went to St Mary Mother of God for Mass in the Extraordinary Form. It was Father\’s first solemn mass and he did a wonderful job. The music was exquisite. The reverence and focus entirely on Christ. If only I could witness this every Sunday morning.

I was blessed this morning at Holy Mass to hear my favorite line from the Roman liturgy: “Dic nobis, Maria, quid vidisti in via?” (cf. The Easter Sequence, Victimae paschali laudes. Glorious.

I attend the SSPX chapel here in Wichita, KS, and the last thing Father Robinson said in his homily was that His Excellency Bishop Fellay was about to start the ‘THIRD ROSASARY CRUSADE” of the Society and that the two intensions are going to be for the Consecration of Russia to be done (re-done?) and for greater appriciation and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary ….I cannot help but think that this is like a high stakes poker game and His Excellency just pushed ‘all-in’ would this be a Crusade that would be well recieved by other Traditional minded groups like the FSSP and the ICK or could this be a big wedge used against the Society ?

The Easter Mass I attended had one special expression of God’s grace.
The priest is a bit of a timid man, a good man but a bit timid. And he fearless preached the Gospel of Christ Jesus during his homily. I was stunned by the force and clarity of his speaking, and the incredible depth of truth that came from his mouth. The Spirit was strongly with him, and he obviously touched many hearts. I suspect he brought back some souls that had been away from the Church for some time, by God’s grace.
The man very nearly received a standing ovation.

I listened EARLY this morning to Fr. Z’s Exultet podcast, then kissed my husband good night, as he labored on a college paper. This morning we both made it up and to Easter Mass on Post. We prayed for all priests and those called to a vocation to Holy Orders.
Interestingly the altar servers were all boys, and the Lay Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist were all men, very active in the Parish.
A sign perhaps?

I attended the Traditional Latin Mass for the first time yesterday, at the Easter Vigil. I don’t think I could have chosen a better time for my first time attending the usus antiquior. I had seen several TLMs on television before and really studied my Baronius hand missal (and visited this great blog everyday!) , but nothing could have prepared me for such a marvelous encounter with the mysteries of our faith. As a side note, I am nineteen years old, so I wasn’t motivated by any sort of nostalgia, as some hippy left-overs at my university and elsewhere might claim. I was motivated only by a hunger for authentic, undiluted Catholic liturgy that would lift up my heart to Almighty God.

We went to the Russian Catholic church last night (after we went to Easter Vigil at our Roman parish). We’ve been before, but brought five of our friends who had never been to a Russian Catholic church before (most had never been to any Eastern liturgy). We loved it, they loved it, the parish were glad to have us, and it was truly a night brighter than any day, extending nearly to the dawn.

While we’ve gotten nothing out of Summorum Pontificum due to a very unfriendly bishop in terms of tradition, the upside is St. Mary’s is packed every Sunday.
And the priest who said his first Solemn High Mass is actually a priest of the New York Diocese studying at Catholic U. He’s fantastic too.

I was fortunate enough to attend the EF form of the Easter vigil at the Shrine of Christ the King Sovereign Priest on Chicago’s south side. I wanted to experience this once more before I die. It was beautiful, from the fire out on the front sidewalk to the blessing of the Easter baskets at the end. Despite the joy of the season, it makes me so sad to witness what we have lost. Why, oh why?

We went to a Russian Greek Orthodox Catholic service in English that started at midnight, lasted more than three hours, was completely chanted (except for the homily), and called for repeated loud affirmations from the congregation that Christ is indeed risen. The acclamation “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life,” was especially participatory with everyone’s stomping their feet at the “trampling.” We would’t have been as inspired to attend this wonderful liturgy if it weren’t for Fr. Z’s blog, which so marvelously reminds us of the rich traditions in our faith. Thank you, Father!
