From Seattle Times. Here is how the secular press views the bone-head BS stupid move of the Catholic Health Ass.
When you hear the words Catholic Health Association you should start thinking:
CANON 216
And now the news:
Catholic hospitals accept birth control compromise
In a split with U.S. bishops, [The secular press sees it as it is.] a trade group for Catholic hospitals said Tuesday it can accept the Obama’s administration latest compromise on birth control coverage by religious employers.
By RACHEL ZOLL
AP Religion WriterNEW YORK —
In a split with U.S. bishops, [Remember the phrase: MAGISTERIUM OF NUNS.] a trade group for Catholic hospitals said Tuesday it can accept the Obama’s administration latest compromise on birth control coverage by religious employers.“We are pleased that our members now have an accommodation that will not require them to contract, provide, pay or refer for contraceptive coverage,” said the Catholic Health Association.
Under President Barack Obama’s health care law, most employers are required to cover birth control as a free preventive service for women workers. Churches and other houses of worship are fully exempt from the mandate. But religiously-affiliated hospitals, universities and social service groups are not.
The compromise, in a final regulation from the administration, attempts to create a buffer for these employers. It requires insurers or the health plan’s outside administrator to pay for birth control coverage, and creates a mechanism for reimbursing them.
However, U.S. Roman Catholic bishops are suing to overturn the entire requirement, saying it trespasses on freedom of religion.
Sister Mary Ann Walsh, a spokeswoman for the bishops, said the hospital association had notified the bishops’ conference about its stand late Monday.
Walsh said the bishops “did not contribute to the (group’s) analysis or the statement itself.” Catholic dioceses, charities and universities are among the plaintiffs in more than 60 lawsuits challenging the rule. The cases are expected to reach the Supreme Court.

The hospital trade group’s decision was first reported by the National Catholic Reporter.
Coincidence? The news is broken by the NSR?
That means that the ‘c’atholic Health Ass. wanted to break the news to the National Schismatic Reporter. Peas in a pod. No… better… fleas on a dog. No… that’s not quite it either.
This is another manifestation of the Magisterium of Nuns, wherein liberal women religious seek to place themselves over and against the teaching authority of the bishops.
This comment is more appropriately made under this post of Father’s rather than the previous:
Yup.
And meanwhile the Catholic Health Assoc. accepts recent HHS rule. Cardinal Dolan disagrees. God help us.

Accommodate to Obama’s anti-life agenda or go to court.
Why isn’t the Holy See sending letters of notice to the CHA??
Flies on crap? Ooo, sorry…
Every time something like this happens, I hope that it will be the event that causes our bishops to wake up and regain control of the Church in this country.
I don’t really have an opinion on the substance of your post, but wanted to congratulate you on a wonderfully louche headline that made me laugh aloud.
I think the nuns/sisters in question understand the headline….as do I.
The Catholic Hospital Association is about as Catholic as most Catholic Universities and Colleges. It is a business which uses the name Catholic but when Church teaching gets in the way of them making a buck they will readily ignore Church teaching. Most Catholic hospitals are not run by the Church. While many (even most) were founded by religious orders they have long since been taken over by mega corporations. They are “supposed” to follow Church teaching in exchange for using the Catholic name but few do.
Most such hospitals and the CHA should be stripped of any Church affiliation which remains. Only a couple of Bishops (one just last week and Bishop Robert Vasa a few years ago when he was Bishop of Baker ) have publicly disassociated their dioceses from so-called Catholic hospitals within their boundaries.
Sounds to me like a deal with the devil. Just like Judas and look where that landed him.
This is a little off topic but is anyone wondering what Dolan’s Seamless garment is going to be? I have a pretty good idea, how about you?
Let GOD arise,
Let His enemies be scattered;
Let all who hate Him flee before His Holy Face.

“It is a business which uses the name Catholic but when Church teaching gets in the way of them making a buck they will readily ignore Church teaching. ” you cut to the chase.
[“We are pleased that our members now have an accommodation that will not require them to contract, provide, pay or refer for contraceptive coverage,” said the Catholic Health Association.]
Really? They will not be required to contract for contraceptive coverage? The way I see it, all the health coverage contracts will require contraceptive coverage be included. That is contracting for contraceptive coverage. It matters not who is paying for it (and I am certain that it will be paid for, hidden in the total costs, since no insurance company is going to take the fall for providing contraceptives etc. for nothing!). There are none so blind as those that will not see.
I would never defend Sister Walsh and her ilk but the bishops and their predecessors through the UCCB have cheered for national health (aka the Baby Boomer Bump-off Act) for decades. Their ignorance of either Euro welfare state history, basic economics or both led them to believe that “charity” in medical care was best administered by growing state and federal bureaucracies. You know, like the Great Society Programs did so much to “help” poor families, especially poor black families, stay strong and intact. And Medicare and Medicaid have no waste, fraud or red ink associated with them.
As a Chicagoan, I can assure you doubters that this BBBO Act (“affordable” health care act) was DESIGNED to be a train wreck so that within a decade the low info voters clamor for guvment to “fix it” and buy into single payer — Obama’s goal all along. His plans have been preserved on recordings made when he was running for state senator.
There are many who stand by and look up to these most secular ‘sisters’ (they are not nuns) and buy their garbage of being subjected to the cruel male hierarchy and so forth. When they do these sinful disobedient dissenting things they lead others by their scandal into sin as well.
They need our prayers for conversion and I hope some bishops with a spine will call them out so that the lines are clear. Decades of ambiguity have cost the loss of faith to millions. There is no time for playing around with the devil.
I know you’ve used this phrase in the title before, but last night when I read it I laughed–out loud–and so I just had to make a small donation (and when I saw your other post on down the page.) Thanks, Fr. Z. We need all the humor we can get these days!
Not sure how this effects other dioceses, but my bishop, Bishop Thomas Tobin, removed our Catholic hospital from their membership back in 2010. I’m grateful for his courage!
Bishop Tobin wrote: “I am writing to request that St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island, sponsored by the Diocese of Providence, be removed from the membership list and mailing list of the Catholic Health Association.”
If more bishops would take this action, Sr. Keehan would be working as a greeter at Wallmart. But they would not put up with her divisiveness, and she would be fired.

The statist progressives undestand how to deal with the majority of Catholic affiliated institutions. Under stress of funding and penalties, most will eventually cave.
The USCCB via Card Dolan is a paper tiger.
Marcus de Alameda –
You’re absolutely correct. The mousy letter by Cardinal Dolan at the USCCB website claims the law needs ‘more work’ by Congress and the Courts but gives no direct guidance. Nor does it specify the changes to be made. Nor instruct American Catholics in what their faith demands. To do so would impact the rapport at the annual dinners, and we’d never want to do that.
(The “Related Articles” on that web page are all 2+ years old, btw)
Perhaps it’s just time to fold up the USCCB tent and seek the level of leadership provided by the CHA and Magisterium of Nuns to assume their rightful place, as per the Lord’s instructions:
Because you are lukewarm … I shall spit you out of my mouth.
