JUST TOO COOL: Is there a way to put this on my wish list?

If only I could put THIS on my amazon wishlist!

This is an 1849 Colt .31 caliber revolver made for the Pontifical Swiss Guards!

Documentation indicates that some of these revolvers were sent “either to Vatican guards or possibly to supporters of Pope Leo XIII who was embroiled in his predecessor’s interminable sovereignty dispute with the unified Kingdom of Italy over who ruled Rome (a dispute that would not be settled until 1929).”

Very cool. It still has some of the original nickle finish.

This is so cool, I can barely stand it.

Instead, so far all I have is my Swiss Guard Swiss Army knife.

These and a halberd would complete my day.

Must we really take seriously any Vatican or USCCB call for gun control? Which fully automatic machine gun does the Swiss guard current use to protect the Vicar of Christ?

  2. incredulous:

The last time I was in the SCV I chatted for a while with one of the Gendarmes about which Glocks they carry. I don’t recall seeing any fully automatic rifles in the SCV, though I don’t doubt that there are some.

There will be in my novel.

Seriously, I think you can add any item anywhere to your Amazon list if you have the wish list browser button installed.

    That is just too cool.

    -Drifter and incredulous,

I go to a Catholic High School. The link drifter posted is blocked and in the category ‘weapons.’ Good grief. Not to mention that 20 seconds ago they mentioned on the announcements that there is no a “Social Justice Club.” Hopefully and God willing I will be at either Wyoming Catholic College or Thomas Aquinas College in 18 months.

I’m pretty sure (and also at least according to Wikipedia) as far as FA weapons go, the Swiss Guards use the SIG 550 and 552 assault rifles along with the HK MP5 and MP7.

My wish list is more modest, but I received my concealed carry permit yesterday….

[Well done. I hope you have reciprocity with many other states.]

Yes, in Georgia, the reciprocity is quite good.

Dang… and with the keys of Peter, no less!!! Very cool.

So far looks like the CA9 ruling will stand. I have my application for LASD filled out and planning to buy something more concealable (currently only own full sized).

Tangentially, with apologies if this is old news, I just read that Tolkien’s service revolver, a Webley .455 Mark 6 (produced in 1915), is going to be included in the exhibition “From Street to Trench: A War that Shaped a Region” at the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester from 5 April to 31 May (having been ‘previewed’ there in December) – the imw.org.uk dite has a nice catalogue description with six photos: search via Tolkien.

By the way, the Dutch Zouave Museum in Oudenbosch has a website with a description in English and various photographs: zouavenmuseum.nl – unfortunately, it does not mention the display case of 365 relics, one for each day of the year, collected by one of the soldiers, on display there. (The Basilica of St. Agatha and St. Barbara in Oudenbosch is largely a miniature replica of St. Peter’s, thanks to the parish priest who also did so much to help recruit and send out some 3,000 Dutch Zouaves.)

I see that Joseph Powell’s Two Years in the Pontifical Zouaves, A Narrative of Travel, Residence, and Experience in the Roman States (London: Wasbourne, 1871) is available in the Internet Archive.

  16. Venerator Sti Lot says:

Having (I now see) jumbled the Imperial War Museum site web address, let me say it is (of course) iwm.org.uk
