New lenses for the Pope

I can’t say I saw this one coming.

The Pope went to an optical shop – I am not making this up – the Pope went to an optical shop the Via del Babuino (that’s a street in Rome) to get new glasses.

He is being fitted in this photo, which came in via Twitter.

Do you suppose that the liberal MSM will punish His Holiness for getting designer named glasses?  After all, they savaged Pope Benedict for his “Prada” shoes… which were from a Roman cobbler, and not Prada after all.

Anyway, I am glad that the Roman Pontiff will have a better view of things during his upcoming trip to these USA.

    Heart warming and sweet!

Having been sent one of those standing cutouts of the pope, we had noticed he hadn’t been wearing the glasses he was wearing around the time of his election.
I guess Roman Pontiffs are too busy to poke around their eyes twice a day :P

Perhaps you yourself need to visit the optician’s more regularly, Fr Z, in order to see such things coming in future? :)

It would be hard to decide who’s cuter — Pope Francis or Mr. Magoo. Love ’em both.

Is His Holiness short sighted, or far sighted?

I trust the Holy Father hasn’t made the same mistake I made last year. Very satisfied with my frames, I purchased new lenses only. Ten months later the frames were falling apart and I was stuck with the cost of both new lenses and new frames, since my insurance covers one pair only every two years. But perhaps his insurance is better than mine.

Interesting choice of metaphorical cartoon Fr Z …
I was comparing Pope Francis to Mr Magoo a couple of years ago – the cartoon character’s ability to jovially crash into things with apparrent obliviousness to the damage he was causing, and trundle off as if nothing had happened and leaving others to clean up the mess, seemed a very apt metaphor for the Pope and his various public actions and doorstop pronouncements. But, then, who am I to judge?

Mr. MAGOOOO!!! His creator was from up in da Nortwoods, where I grew up. :o)

    Peter, excellent observation!! LOL

Kind of nice to see a down-to-earth pope.
