On the website of the Cincinnati Enquirer there was an article about the disciplining of a woman religious who works in for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. She is in favor or, working for, the ordination of women. Archbishop Pilarcyck is telling her to knock it off.
Never mind the fact that this is impossible. A woman can no more be ordained as a priest than an… eggplant, or giraffe.
The Church, faithful to Christ, has no authority to ordain women. This is the Church’s infallible teaching.
At the time of this writing, the poll is leaning 75% in favor of ordination of women.
I ask you… do you WDTPRSers think that will be a good outcome?

It’s strange, but I know of a priest who believes that female ordination will be granted during the next pontificate. I almost blew a gasket hwen I heard that.

I just voted, but I am not going to allow myself to be sucked into the comments on that site. I can’t stand it when non-Catholics pontificate on what the Catholic Church should and should not be doing. Especially when they question how women can support a religion that supposedly oppresses us (it’s particularly rich when a man says it). I’m a woman in the Church and I trust in her wisdom. How could I possibly feel as though I am stuck in an oppressive patriarchal system when it is the word of my Holy Mother Church that tells me that priests must be male?
Today, as I walked by the campus ministry bulletin board (at Georgetown) I saw a flyer that called on students to intern for the Women’s Ordination Conference. I tore down the flyer and made sure that my opinion was made known to the Priest and Sister.
In the past 15 minutes the vote has changed to now be 26% against; from 75% for originally to <70% for now. Good work.

This is more “Fruit of the Council”. The Church (the bishops assembled) created this problem. In 1965, the Council Fathers told women religious that they had it all wrong: that their cloisters and convents, and manner of dress, and way of life were outdated; and that they needed to (no, they MUST) go back and re-invent themselves and rediscover their true ‘charism’. They were encouraged to fully participate in the ‘renewal of the Church’. Well, they did just that. Now, many of them want to be priestesses. Who is surprised? Moreover, they have the active encouragement of countless priests and laity [and the odd bishop] who themselves support the idea of women’s ordination. I wish it were true that this Sister of Charity was part of the lunatic fringe; but, sadly, she most certainly is not.
In about 1:24 minutes we shifted this over 30%.
Mike’s point raises the real problem: that the world does not understand the nature of the Church, and why the poll is meaningless. Nevertheless, as a sign that there are those of us who care about being Catholic, this drama tonight makes me proud to be a WDTPRSer.

Are these women crazy? Why would anyone want to destroy the foundations of any religious organization that has been around for centuries. What good does that serve the world to destroy something that is one of the only institutions that has the power to unite and bring peace to the world today? Do they realize how many people they are hurting? I can not believe how selfish it is. I mean there are things in the Church that I may think that if changed would make my life easier too, but I would never try to undermine the foundations of the Catholic Church. Fuel to the fire was added with the approval of Altar girls. Convents are emptying at alarming rates, why not go there and serve God? Obviously I voted NO, for plenty of reasons, first and foremost because HMC doesn’t have authority to ordain women, as previously mentioned. Moreover, as a PK (in Protestant lingo,a preacher’s kid [my mom]) in the Lutheran tradition, I firmly believe that women should not be ordained period anywhere. After my mom’s “ordination,” it seems that all my mom’s time is taken up with church and church issues, and yes, there’s plenty of church politics. I am getting soooo tired of hearing these progressives airing their cases with this when it’s a non-issue. Kudos to +Pilcarczyk for taking the action that he did. I’ll add him to my intentions tonight. BTW, the Nos are up to just over 55 % Yeah!!!
It’s frustrating to see so many comments from people who are protesting against something they don’t understand. Many of their objections are good ones, they’re just not the reasons why the Church doesn’t (and can’t) ordain women.

What is disappointing, though not surprising, is that her order will not back up the Church:

I voted no. I found Sr. Akers’ comment in the article rather silly. She is quoted, “For me, it’s an issue of justice within the church.” Is it really an issue of justice within the church that women aren’t ordained?!? I guess God was being unjust when he created women to be the ones who could bear children and then subsequently asked a woman and not a man to bear his only son. I guess God was being equally unjust when he sent a son and not a daughter to be the savior of the world. I suppose Jesus himself was unjust when he chose only men to be his apostles and built his church on Peter. Even a modicum of theological study would counter the theory of injustice in a male-only tradition as Sr. Akers asserts.

Alas, in the grab for the power of service, the dusty old truism seems to have been overlooked (again):
“*She* who rocks the cradle . . .
[rescues the aborted;
harbors the afflicted;

rescues the threatened;
supports the weary;
comforts the dying; and
prays for the needful]
. . . . rules the world.”
“Can a woman forget her infant, so as not to have pity on the son of her womb? and if she should forget, yet will not I forget thee.” Is. 49:15.
Isaias does not say, “if she should forget, yet will I make of her a priest for thee.”
A Few Thoughts
In the matter of the Ordination of women what if the liberals had their way and the Church reversed its declaration that She had no authority to ordain women?
What would be the implications of this decision?
I see this as being the end of the Catholic Church.
Why?
Well, the Church teaches that She alone has the authority to make a pronouncement on this matter. I can quote the words of Jesus to St. Peter…”Whatever you shall bind on earth, is bound also in heaven etc. etc”. And further words of Jesus “Behold I am with you even unto the end of the world”.
Now, the Church has already made a pronouncement on the matter of female Ordination and this has been declared as binding on all the Faithful.
Take for one moment the grievous sin of perjury. When someone takes an oath that what they are about to say, is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and calls upon Almighty God as their witness to this truth; if then, they proceed to lie, they are guilty of calling on God Himself to witness their lie as being the truth. This is a very serious offence to God, the author of truth. Hence, the seriousness of the sin of perjury.
If the Church were to reverse this binding declaration on Her lack of power to ordain women, then the Church would be declaring that She had got it wrong. This means that the Holy Spirit has got it wrong, God Himself has been in error. The author of truth has given support to an untruth. This would therefore be a declaration that God is not infallible. This would be a sin against the Holy Spirit, and Jesus himself said that a sin against the Holy Spirit can never be forgiven, neither in this world nor in the next.
The Church would have committed a sin very similar to perjury.
The Church herself then would have committed the unforgiveable sin, of sinning against the Holy Spirit.
This means that the Church is not holy, that God is not God and the Church is indeed finished!
Perhaps if those soft thinking, or unthinking, people actually looked at the implications of such a reversal of the clear declaration that She has no power to ordain women, can be made to see what they are actually implying and hoping for, is simply the total, complete and utter destruction of the Church herself.
That is something which God has promised will never be allowed to happen.

When I was working for the Church and going for my Master’s of Theology at a very liberal college, the priest came up to me and said “This is wonderful, you may be our first Catholic woman priest.” I told him, “No thanks, I want to remain a Roman Catholic”. End of conversation.

There are several comments on the article at their site that have begun to wonder why the poll shows that a majority of Catholics say “NO” to female ordination. They seem perplexed that this would be so….
There are also many comments that display the sorry condition of Catholics today…it seems that the “Church as Popular Democracy” view is so prevalent that it will probably cause a serious crash at some point in the future. Many comments call this being “exclusive”…as though EVERYBODY should be Catholic regardless of what they believe or what they profess. If the church doesn’t accept them, it is being “exclusive”. Unfortunately, this is where we are…for now.

The point, I would suggest mpalardy, is to keep at least this poll from falling into this category:
“Various polls in the past 10 years show that about 60 percent of American Catholics favor allowing women to become priests.”

I voted NO several days ago. I’ve noticed on this thread that some folks (Roland de Chanson, Hamburglar, Catholic Community Organizer)
are advocating skewing the results by voting more than once. If that’s possible, then what was already a poll with questionable methodology
has been rendered utterly useless. Those of us who vote NO in this poll are on the side of what’s right, and stuffing the ballot box should
be beneath us. Leave that behavior to the folks at ACORN.
On another note — have you been to the comments section on the Enquirer’s article? It’s a vortex of half-baked ideation and bigotry.

I voted No. And won’t go back to look at the comments, some of which would surely put me in a frustrated, angry funk for hours, if not for days. I’d rather spend the same amount of time praying for the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit for faithful, orthodox Catholics as we work to rebuild our identity and to turn back the swelling tide of evil and heresy.
