Have a party!

I think celebration is in order.

On 16 December 1773, a bunch of guys in disguise boarded ships in Boston harbor and destroyed imported tea by throwing it overboard into Boston Harbor.

Order Mystic Monk TEA.

I have noticed in the stats that people are ordering “Let It Snow” tea!

Our gracious Queen is forgiving and merciful. Approach on bended knee with a contrite heart and we may restore you into full communion with the British Empire. ;-) Especially if you bring some good tea and biscuits with you.

  3. Legisperitus says:

Hmmm… I ordered The Holly and the Ivy, but not Let It Snow.

dnicoll: Does that mean we would also get to use BBC iPlayer if we pay the licence fee? ;-)

Anyone else remember the “Bicentennial Minutes” on TV in the lead-up to the Bicentenntial in 1976? They were short snippets, usually hosted by a celebrity or news figure, and I think they were on CBS. They focused on what had happened “two hundred years ago today”, as a way of building interest in American history and, especially, the upcoming Bicentennial. IIRC, the very first one was in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, in 1973.

albinus1: I remember those very well. “Two hundred years ago today…”
Yes, I can hear it even now, almost two hundred years later! :D

Legisperitus – in the UK I believe you don’t have to pay the license fee for BBC iplayer if you only watch it through a computer!

But this sounds like the kind of activity that would be condemened as terrorist violence today. Lock them up and throw away the key.

albinus1-yes, I remember the ‘Bicentennial Minutes’ too! Those were so cool! I loved them!
I’ll have to remember to toast the ‘original’ Tea Partiers when I drink my iced tea at dinner tonight!
    Cheers, you guys!

Oh, I say, America, quite! Let’s all hop the bloody pond and swim the Thames to commemorate the Boston Tea Party (at tea time, no less, guvnah) in London wiff ‘ah Majesty Queen George III, wot-wot! Bob’s your uncle! Smashing! Why not pop on over for a wee nip a the Dog & Duck after, then, luv, to rendezvous with dnicoll, who has obviously thrown down more than a few bob already if he ‘s seeing ghosts of the ruddy Empire! Blye me!

*All rise* “My country ’tis of thee…”

    With apologies to dnicoll. ;^)

I will happily rejoin the Mother Country, just as soon as the knavish Hanoverians and their ilk are driven from the land and the Stuarts restored to their rightful throne. Remember Culloden!

I would happily cross the pond if I could live in the home of my husband’s ancestors…Arundel Castle, from whence the Howards fled my OWN ancestors (one of whom was an Anglican Archbishop from Cornwall) for County Westmeath! And there I would drink plenty of ‘Let It Snow’ & ‘The Holly & The Ivy”…because I can’t decide which is more yummy!

200 years ago today the worst earthquake in the US occurred at the New Madrid fault, reportedly causing the Mississippi River to reverse its flow upstream.

I am an American, but not comfortable with the rather significant destruction of property that the Boston Tea Party entailed. Vandalism, even to make a political point, is problematic.
