One my daily internet stops is the Civil War Daily Gazette.
Since we are in the sesquicentennial year of the American Civil War, some enterprising folks have created a day by day gazette like blog, covering the unfolding of the war.
Right now, of course, the Battle of Gettysburg is raging!
Last night on TV I saw a short video clip of a reenactment many are doing.
Sometimes I wonder if when the SHTF and TEOTWAWKI come, we will have another civil war.

I wonder too, Father, but am inclined to think YES. It’s highly possible that it will happen even without TEOTWAKI. Little bits of S are H’ing The F already, it’s just in such small amounts that it amounts to little more than an inconvenience. If the S inflow gets worse, particularly if it gets worse in a short period of time, then all bets are off.
Darren, you beat me to it! I’m friends with one of the Harrisburg seminarians who assisted at that Mass, and was going to share that same exact photo! Pretty cool stuff; kind of wish I could have been there in full regalia. ;-)

I hope not. If we did, it wouldn’t be a neat North-South divide like in the previous Civil War, but widespread street-to-street fighting. It would be an enormously higher casualty count than the previous Civil War, and that one already killed more Americans than every other war we’ve ever fought. Utter carnage.

Civil War? I don’t see it. I rather expect this thing to end not with a bang, but rather, with a wimper. But end, it will.
I would love to see Gettysburg one day.
More people in that battle died or were wounded then the entire Vietnam war.
I cant imagine another Civil war.. to me what we are starting to see is a good vs evil fight.
Just yesterday in Texas while pro life activists were singing Amazing Grace.. the pro aborts were chanting ‘hail satan’.

When I had to do business in Tullytown, PA a few years ago I passed through Gettysburg and realized, “it’s not THAT far away from where I live”. While I didn’t get to the battleground, I did visit the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine in nearby Emmitsburg, MD… and the outdoor Lourdes Grotto shrine there as well (very nice place, but the OL Medjugorje statue has to go… at least it WAS moved to more out of the way location).
But anyway… take that photo, make it black and white and give it that old look, and it could very well be from the real place and time.
When I saw “sesquicentennials” in the title of Fr. Z’s post, I thought he was going to mention my current home state, West Virginia, which currently is celebrating its Sesquicentennial. The state was created on 20 June 1863 as a direct result of the rebellion of the northwestern counties of Virginia against the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Confederate States. Several of our southern counties were dragged into the new state as war booty, although I can’t remember which battle(s) brought that about.
Anyhow, Civil War buffs should check out West Virginia because the Civil War always is alive in this state! The Lord has also blessed us with plenty of natural beauty, and even a couple of regularly-offered Tridentine Masses (St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Thomas, WV, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nitro, WV).

Yes, I think we will. Not geographically as was the last one, but good vs evil. I believe that those who follow Christ need to prepare post haste for persecution. Just as one works out scenarios in the mind as to how to react to physical confrontation, we need to prepare our minds (and conscience) for the spiritual warfare on the horizon.
But, as we prepare for battle, we must be cognoscente of the civil war that rages in our own life on a daily basis – the war between the spirit and the flesh. We must make sure the spirit prevails in our own life or we will be useless in the conflict to come. We must lean on the Good Shepherd and trust him to lead us to peace.

A friend of mine from the South (who calls it the war of Northern Agresssion) says that it is not if, but when. She thinks it will be a geographical civil war, like last time, but I disagree. I think it might be the cities vs. the rural areas. It also depends on the trigger (ammendment 1, or 2). I just hope WWIII does not coincide with USCWII (U.S. Civil War II).
