Sr. Jeannine Gramick asked Pres. Obama to expand abortion throughout the world

Sr. Jeannine Gramick has signed a letter to Pres. Obama asking that abortion be expanded throughout the world.  PDF of the letter HERE. Guardian story HERE.

Sr. Gramick is, as you may recall, one of those immortalized in my post NUNS GONE WILD!

These nuns are pro-abortion.  They are feminists first, and catholics …. tenth?

  1. LarryW2LJ says:

Sad. So very sad. My prayers go out for all these misguided souls. Satan has gotten a toehold. How you can consider yourself to be Catholic and support murder is beyond me.

  2. OdeM says:

  3. Dr. Edward Peters says:

The only way I think Sr. Jeannine Gramick could escape sanction under Canon 1369 is, if the canon is not invoked against her.

  4. benedetta says:

How awful. I think soon we will be seeing a “traditional liberal” or moderate orthodox leaning laity emerge more prominently in the face of this extremism which is so far from the roots of the Gospel.

  5. tm30 says:

It’s incomprehensible that there is no sanction levied for this. I don’t want to be a foaming-at-the-mouth one-man inquisition, but at some point, it’s hard not to conclude that our prelates Just. Don’t. Care.

What a terrible feeling. Are all the shepherds gone?

  6. Vecchio di Londra says:

I wonder: Who is her Bishop?
(Or should that be, ‘Who is Her bishop’?)

  7. Joe in Canada says:

I used to think that her ‘ministry’ to people with same-sex-attraction could be understood as genuinely driven by care for people, even if it mispresented or even went against Catholic teaching. “Sincere if misguided”. But now I’m tempted to say “to hell with her.”

  8. Supertradmum says:

Good, weak people are scandalized by this woman, and some will leave their faith because of her. She really must be disciplined. Pray for her immortal soul. She has left her First Love, the Bridegroom for lesser gods.

On a lighter side, a friend of mine, Midwest St. Michael, sent this to me to share with others. It is a sad but accurate commentary on how far these “nuns” have traveled away from the Truth.

The Creed of the LCWR (also known as the Creed of Isis)

“I believe in one Cosmic Consciousness, ever-evolving, The Mother-Being of the Matrices and Noosphere, And the Logos, her multiplicate Son-Being, our interiorized Light-Source, Who was presenced by the Pleroma of the Sophia, Proactively suffered under the World-Tree of Self-Actualization, Was crucialized, diffused into Stardust, And on the Third Epoch of Aquarius, She apotheosized into Nirvana, And sits at the Meal-Table of the Mother-Being.
I believe in the Akashic Records,
    The Maslowian ecclesiology,
The Great Togetherness of all Nurturing Covens, The Absolutory Abilities of Women Religious (though Sin is really an Abstraction), The revivification of the Overself, And Cosmic Consciousness, ever-evolving. Awomen.”

  9. disco says:

These nuns are catholic in precisely the same way that Satan is an angel.

  10. LeslieL says:

But truly – how does she get away with it? I am not being snarky….I really want to know. How is she allowed to still call herself a Roman Catholic nun? Why is she not asked – told – to go away on a prayerful retreat to consider what she is doing? Truly, how IS this possible? She is, imho, giving grave scandal to the Church, defiantly advocating that which is diametrically opposed to Church teaching, and yet the hierarchy of the Church says nothing. Please, Fr. Z – is there a possible reason nothing is said? Perhaps I just don’t understand…..

  11. Andreas says:

A number of the comments above allude to the notion that attention should now be directed to whomever is accountable for this Sister’s performance. In this regard, if no timely and effective response is provided by that individual, should one then assume ‘Qui tacet consentit’? If, in the end, that turns out to be the case, one might remember Cassius’ words to Brutus in that, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves….”

  12. BLB Oregon says:

This is beyond the pale. This sister has incurred excommunication automatically by her very public efforts to procure abortions for others, a penalty she is duty-bound to impose on herself. Since she is obstinate, she ought to be given a choice between publicly recanting her wrong-headed advocacy or being canonically dismissed from her religious order.

Fr. Roy Bourgeois obstinately kept making Catholics into Protestants, serious enough to warrant the penalty he was given, but this woman is trying to use the influence of the United States of America to get defenseless people killed. In any case, both are following in the footsteps of Martin Luther and many other Protestant “thinkers” of the Reformation. Let us hope they do not lead so many Catholics away from the Church as those other “reformers” did.

  13. James C says:

I wish there were a way to get her to become as passionate about the traditional liturgy as she is about abortion. Then, either (1) she will undergo a conversion under its influence, or (2) her superiors will move against her with all speed .

    Either way, problem solved!

  14. BLB Oregon says:

If nothing else, the bishops ought to begin to reiterate that it is not just the divorced and remarried who ought to refrain from receiving Holy Communion. Those who have participated in attempted ordinations outside the permission of the Church and those who have participated in the procurement of abortions are also duty-bound to abstain from Holy Communion until their situation has been rectified, too.

I know the bishops hesitate to use tactics that could scatter what it is their duty to gather back in. This is understandable. Still, it is necessary to gather, and not just to re-define the safety of the fold to include those who are actually wandering out among the wolves, their souls in mortal danger. That is a very dangerous pretense, and puts errant faithful in danger of dying in serious sin without the admonishment they deserved from their shepherds.

  15. Chick says:

Words fail me. My first thought was that was time for a new tour called “Throw the nuns under the bus”. Though the best I can do is pray, I also felt compelled to contact the USCCB through the website ( to request this case be investigated to see if some action is required. I would invite others to consider doing the same.

  16. tm30 says:

That we need to contact the USCCB to get something done, is all you need to know about the chances of something getting done by the USCCB.

  17. Elizabeth D says:

There is a very, very, very glaringly obvious omission here, which is quite interesting.

Sr Jeannine Gramick is a close collaborator of Sister Donna Quinn, OP famous for having been an abortion clinic escort and longtime radical feminist activist. They are both national coordinators of the radical dissident organization NCAN–and Sr Gramick’s signature on the letter notes this about herself. But Sister Donna is NOT a signatory of the letter. That’s the story here, moreso than Sr Gramick signing.

I tell Sr Donna’s story in great depth in a chapter of my 2013 book _A Report on the Sinsinawa Dominicans Today_. This is online: is more about Sr Donna, about her rejection of the Eucharist which she construes as male oppression in this other chapter

Traditionally Sr Jeannine’s specialty has been promoting approval of homosexual behavior, and Sr Donna’s specialty has been promoting abortion (though she has promoted all manner of other evils, also). I do wonder if Sr Donna may have had it re-emphasized by her community that she must not do this because she is creating trouble for them and needs to adhere to what had previously been promised to Cardinal George on her behalf (but that she clearly has violated in recent times), that she would not advocate for abortion. Again, read my bio of her to see just how committed she has been to doing so. Sr Jeannine is carrying the flag but apparently for once Donna has refrained from doing so.

  18. Clinton says:

It’s been several years since Sister Donna Quinn of the Sinsinawa Dominicans was
discovered working at an abortion facility. She’s still a Sinsinawa Dominican sister
in good standing. Her congregation knew about her activities long before they made
the papers– and did nothing to stop her. Only when the glare of publicity made it
inconvenient for the Sinsinawa sisters was she directed by her superiors to cease
volunteering for the abortion facility. For what it’s worth, we have the Sinsinawas’
word that Sr. Quinn has stopped her pro-abortion activities.

In light of the story of Sr. Quinn, I don’t see why we should expect anything beyond the
mildest tut-tutting over Sister Gramick from her superiors and from our bishops. I have
zero expectations of Canon #1369 being applied in her case.

In other news, the scourging of the FFI continues…

  19. Elizabeth D says:

To those wanting to contact someone about Sr Gramick’s behavior, she is a Loretto sister and their motherhouse is in Littleton, CO, in the Diocese of Colorado Springs, under Bishop Sheridan. He would have jurisdiction to take action. If I recall correctly, her current order took her in precisely so she could continue her dissident homosexual ministry, after her former one tried to lay down the law. Also realize that the Loretto Sisters are presumably of pontifical right (not a diocesan institution) and bishops cannot necessarily do much, and I am unclear whether the Congregation for Religious does anything, I know some bishops hesitate to act because they think the current Congregation for Religious would not back them up.

  20. The Masked Chicken says:

    What can one say? Really?

The actual law is from the amendment of Sen. Helms, in 1973, to the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961. The full text of the 1961 Act may be found, here (very large pdf):

and the 1973 Helms amendment may be found, here:

    ” S E C . 114. LIMITING U S E OF FUNDS FOR ABORTIONS.—None of the
funds made available to carry out this part shall be used to pay for the
performance of abortions as a method of family planning or to moti-
vate or coerce any person to practice abortions.”

Paying for abortion after the trauma of rape would, in many cases, amount to motivating or coercing a person to practice abortion, simply because it would be convenient.

I would certainly like to know who these, “Christian,” leaders are who are supporting the use of public funding for abortion. Scanning the list on the pdf of the letter, one can see that Planned Parenthood is represented, twice. In addition, Francis Kissling, the former president of Catholics for a Free Choice, is also represented.

Excommunicate them. They seem to have no concept of Catholic teaching. If the U. S. bishops do not step up, now, to censure these people, then one must wonder what their definition of leadership is.

  22. JustaSinner says:

Me thinks upon her death she will be escorted by the tens of millions of aborted CHILDREN….straight to HELL. She will make a nice addition.

  23. Michael_Thoma says:

A simple google search of Jeannine Gramick shows her “New Ways Ministry” that is pro-gay to the point of having a link which points out the “gay friendly” parish near you.. in other words, the list of parishes that the Bishop of the area out to put on notice, if not outright shut down. One of the links leads to that Holy Diocese of Madison, where the Benedictine Nuns on the Bus have been sneaking their heresy in via Trojan Horse (or in this case, Statute of Buddha)..

    see more here:

Without Buddha I Could Not Be a Christian/Without Sophia I Would Not Be a Buddhist
$93 for this nonsense, I wonder how many aging hippies and now married ex-priests will show to support one of their own. Here’s an idea, make a list and submit it to His Holiness Bishop Robert Morlino, for a who’s who list for future excommunication.

  24. Luvadoxi says:

As a former evangelical Christian, this is an embarrassment to Protestants. Martin Luther, et al. at least were believers who were trying, at first, to bring needed reforms. These poor misguided souls are not in the same league.

Fully Catholic here, but just sayin’ ……

  25. aviva meriam says:

The only advantage to this is that it functions as a public admission.

Praying for the Bishops. And we wonder WHY the average person is so poorly catechized….

Praying her actions won’t serve as a rationalization or justification of murder and heresy by others.

  26. Eugene says:

@tm30 “it’s hard not to conclude that our prelates Just. Don’t. Care. ” – you took the words out of my mouth – I have had this mounting feeling for quite some time now – God help us, God forgive me I am losing faith in our shepherds, I truly hope this feeling passes..I am 56 years old and have never been as disillusioned as I am right now with the leadership of our Church …I continue to pray but it is getting harder..

  27. LarryW2LJ says:

Gotta hand it to Sr. Jeannine Gramick, though in one way. She’s slick – very slick. I did a Google search on images – and in all the images, I noticed she only wears the veil when she’s before a microphone. Telling ….. VERY telling.

  28. Elizabeth D says:

Comments about who one thinks is going to go straight to hell are very seriously inappropriate, completely regardless of who we are talking about. The devil wants us all to go straight to hell, God wants us all to turn to Him and receive mercy. Whoever’s soul is in danger (and let us never think it’s the other folks and not me and you) let us believe Jesus can save them and pray that they will convert from all their sins and be well disposed to receive His mercy.

    This woman is beyond disgusting!

  31. Kathleen10 says:

Just diabolical. The USCCB will do exactly what. Nothing. Maybe if they remember that some of those unborn babies are the children of undocumented workers.

  32. Rachel K says:

I second Chick’s suggestion to contact the US Bishops. This is a world issue now, not a local problem, because she is inciting people to promote abortion on a world scale. No doubt the first victims of this programme would be the poor mothers and babies of the third world!
It may also be good to contact the Vatican for the above reasons.
And of course to pray. Thanks Chick.

  33. Rachel K says:

Kathleen10, I agree, it is just diabolical. The devil’s workers come in many guises.

  34. A.D. says:

I saw at least three names on the list that are or were catholics. What more does the bishop, the nuncio, or the Holy Father need to excommunicate them publicly? They are not only disgustingly little catholics, but they’re not even good Americans, since they are urging the POTUS to use executive orders to do an end-run around the law.
Are you sure that Creed of the LCWR is not just a joke someone wrote? I’ve never seen it on their website.
BTW, they don’t list the details of the August Assembly like they used to. You have to be a member and have a password.

  35. Joseph-Mary says:

Very very serious. She is not a Bride of Christ; she abandoned Him long long ago.

This very public sin certainly merits excommunication. But then only Bp. Bruskewitz seems to have had that kind of courage against heretics and he is retired.

  36. Dax says:

How insane, how tragic. Sista tips her mitt a tad here as she reveals how the left truly worship Obamo and view him as lord of this world. Oh, wait a minute where have I read that title? Seems so familiar…..

  37. benedetta says:

Could there be any better representation of the “ugly American” imposing his or her values and throwaway culture upon others, with righteous “evolved” enlightenment and elitist pressure on a President. Why do they not devote their considerable political clout on behalf of Nigerian girls? Or Chinese girls? Or girls who are subjected to brutal conditions in other places?

  38. midwestmom says:

Email the CDF. Anybody! It works.

How pathetic is the soul who still denies the science of abortion. Sister is either incredibly stupid or a huge liar.

  39. Salvelinus says:

Well paint me “restorationist” but these nuns confuse me and what I’m doing volunteering at abortuaries these days

  40. Salvelinus says:

    Hey @midwestern.
Do you have that email handy?

  41. cpttom says:

For those who have WILLING fallen to evil, and revel in public creating public scandal, the old school excommunication rite should be brought back. AKA Book, Bell, Candle. Let her be named anathema! Self excommunication is useless as a lesson, especially for the heroic sinner like Sr. Jeannine Gramick, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of their ilk. Public Scandal should be PUBLICLY addressed.

Her bishop should make sure it’s done in the Cathedral with all the appropriate declaration of excommunication:

We separate her, together with her accomplices and abettors, from the precious body and blood of the Lord and from the society of all Christians; we exclude him from our Holy Mother, the Church in Heaven, and on earth; we declare him excommunicate and anathema; we judge him damned, with the Devil and his angels and all the reprobate, to eternal fire until he shall recover himself from the toils of the devil and return to amendment and to penitence.

and all the old school elements (Closing of the missal, Funeral toll, 12 priests in black vestments snuffing out of candles, Dies Ires chanted as the Bishop and the priests recess out. It think it would make the point better than some harshly worded note from the USCCB or the Congregation of Religious. It would also be courageous in an age of cowards.

St Michael Defend us this Day in Battle!

  42. PortugueseCatholic says:

I almost was sick when I read this post about this “nun” writing the president to advocate for the slaughter of children. I immediately looked her up and wrote her this:

I read with utter shock and dismay about a letter you wrote to President Obama promoting the massacre of human babies. Its not the letter itself that shocks me, as there are many people of such pure evil ideology one could expect to write such rubbish.

But that its author calls herself a Catholic Nun. You are in no way a part of the mystical body of Christ. You are anathema and scandalize the Church. In many ways you automatically excommunicated yourself with conduct so deplorable it can only be ascribed to satanic agency.

In charity, I urge you to repent from your ways and return to the fold of the elect in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Saving your soul should be of greater urgency to you than the approval of trendy liberals and satanists. I will pray for your conversion.

  43. PortugueseCatholic says:

Anyone know which Bishop has jurisdiction over her ? I plan to write and demand a formal public excommunication of this demon

  44. midwestmom says:

Don’t pontificate, keep it short, provide a link to the letter, and don’t expect a response.

  47. Peg Demetris says:

This makes me physically sick… This is evil

  48. Cafea Fruor says:

Why don’t we all offer up a fast in reparation for the scandal and for the conversion of this very wayward woman, perhaps this Friday? Some things can only be driven out by prayer and fasting, and this seems like one of them.

  49. Joe in Canada says:

The women of “” are no longer Catholic, so we can’t blame the Benedictines. And the “ugly American” was the one who was not smooth and slick, hence “ugly”, but actually cared for the Vietnamese, and for justice, so we can’t blame ugly Americans either. A bishop cannot tell her what to do – only her order can – but he can tell her what NOT to do- not to exercise any public ministry in his diocese, etc. And the Congregation can act, too.
Mother Mary Ward would be turning over in her grave, if the dead could do such a thing.
