NOTRE SHAME strikes again! Honors a pro-abortion ‘c’atholic.

Notre Shame, not content with giving an honor to the pro-abortion Pres. Obama, is now giving one to pro-abortion catholic VPres. Biden.

Along with Nancy Pelosi, VPres. Biden is a certain candidate for can. 915.

Bishop Rhoades Slams Notre Dame Honor of Pro-Abortion Biden: ‘Can Provoke Scandal’

Fort Wayne – South Bend, Ind., Bishop Kevin Rhoades severely criticized the University of Notre Dame’s decision to award pro-abortion Vice President Joe Biden with the 2016 Laetare Medal, saying the controversial choice could “provoke scandal” by giving the impression “that one can be ‘a good Catholic’ while also supporting or advocating for positions that contradict our fundamental moral and social principles and teachings”
“While I understand Notre Dame’s intentions in conferring the Laetare Medal upon Vice President Biden and Speaker Boehner, I disagree with the decision,” Bishops Rhoades said in his official statement released today to The Cardinal Newman Society. “I believe it is wrong for Notre Dame to honor any ‘pro-choice’ public official with the Laetare Medal, even if he has other positive accomplishments in public service, since direct abortion is gravely contrary to the natural law and violates a very fundamental principle of Catholic moral and social teaching: the inalienable right to life of every innocent human being from the moment of conception.”
16_03_14_red_01“I also question the propriety of honoring a public official who was a major spokesman for the redefinition of marriage,” he added. “The Church has continually urged public officials, especially Catholics, of the grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that supports or facilitates abortion or that undermines the authentic meaning of marriage. I disagree with awarding someone for ‘outstanding service to the Church and society’ who has not been faithful to this obligation.”
Last week, Notre Dame announced that it would bestow its 2016 Laetare Medal, the “oldest and most prestigious honor accorded to American Catholics,” on Biden. According to the honor’s description, the pro-abortion Catholic politician is being honored as one “whose genius has ennobled the arts and sciences, illustrated the ideals of the Church and enriched the heritage of humanity.” Despite Bishop Rhoades’ personal warning several months ago not to award the medal to Biden, the University has proceeded with the planned honor.
The University also sought to justify its choice by pairing Biden’s award with former Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner, claiming to celebrate “respectful dialogue,” “compromise” and “working for the common good” in opposition to the “toxic political environment” of our time.

Can we just take a moratorium from honoring politicians for a while?

  3. the little brother says:

Only is you are comfortable w/a moratorium on America, Friar Random, because we have arrived @ the end of our Republic & only God saves America now.

  4. JARay says:

The University of Notre Dame has long since lost all vestiges of being a Catholic University.

The Notre Shame “University” Laetare Medal website is perfectly silent on the membership of the Laetare Medal Committee (if indeed there is such a body). The sole name and responsibility it provides is:
    “Reporting Structure
Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., President”
Here’s my question: is Jenkins waiting to be named Cardinal BEFORE he changes his name to Wolsey?
    Or what?

Notre Dame U giving Joe Biden this award is like, and I said it yesterday, B’Nai B’rith giving Adolph Eichmann an award. Both were involved in mass murder.

Thanks to poor Bishop Rhoades for taking a stand, but I am afraid it will fall on deaf ears, not only to the University of Notre Dame, but also to the feckless U.S. bishops and to the increasingly more ambiguous “Holy See.” If they didn’t do anything to keep Obama from receiving an honorary doctorate, why would they bother with Uncle Joe? Disgusting.

  8. Absit invidia says:

Fr. Jenkins has sullied the honor of Notre Dame with his original act. This latest development of adding to the pile of manure that Fr. Jenkins has smeared on this institution could only procure darkness. While Notre Dame thinks it is winning the popularity contest among its isolated circle of friends they have conjured around themselves, they do so by shaking their fist at God to their own demise. God will not bless such an institution that mocks Him. This cannot bode well for Notre Dame.

The hold of Satin is tight. We hold the life line to God’s grace by only a few golden threads that are under an increasing amount of strain. The shadows are everywhere, circling like buzzards waiting to pick openly at the walking dead and any others who do not choose to repent. But what is sin anymore? We are so desensitized to sin! With the absence of Confession or Reconciliation, our hearts have been hardened. A hardened heart is a dead heart. If our heart is dead, then so are we. How easy the walking dead become a puppet for Satin. Without Confession or Reconciliation, we cannot receive forgiveness or the Eucharist. Compare the lines receiving Eucharist to the lines at Confession, who are we to think so high of ourselves that we try receiving Him while we continue to sin without repentance?

  12. Ferde Rombola says:

I call on Bishop Rhoades either to suspend the faculties of Fr. John Jenkins or declare him excommunicated until he apologizes to him, the Church and all Catholics for his public heresy. That kind of radical action is the only way to get the attention of renegade priests who infect Catholic higher education all over the Country. The man is a scandal and a disgrace. He does not deserve to be called a Catholic.

  13. Joseph-Mary says:

Fr. Jenkins is an order priest. And he did not budge when thousands of protests came his way when he honored he pro-abortion, pro-sodomite president. There is literally hell to pay for what some of these people in places of authority do (yes, includes politicians) if they do not repent because their scandal is enormous and they lead countless souls to perdition. Georgetown inviting Richards, who has been caught in public lies as she promotes the murder of the unborn, is a travesty and grave sin on the part of someone.

  14. aviva meriam says:

I hate to repeat what so many have said before but I think Cardinals, Bishops and Priests need to be reminded: Honoring Politicians and Leaders who advocate for evil makes it so much more difficult when any of the faithful try to have conversations about the sanctity of life and other urgent issues.

Each and every time this is allowed to occur, it cuts into the moral voice of the Church….. with our children, our friends, and our neighbors.

Thank you Bishop Rhoades for your public stance and I urge you to consider any additional action within your power to correct this injustice. Hoping and praying Pope Francis will stop the insanity of his Order, especially on Jesuit Campuses.

“Last week, Notre Dame announced that it would bestow its 2016 Laetare Medal, the “oldest and most prestigious honor accorded to American Catholics,” on Biden.”

I must respectfully disagree. In my view the oldest and most prestigious honour accorded to American, or any Catholic, is baptism into the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church. It is an honour bestowed by Christ Himself upon the lowly and the mighty alike. It is not awarded on our merits, but from the love poured out on us by the Sacred Heart of our most Divine Saviour.

The great tragedy here is that those at Notre Dame who decided to confer the Laetare Medal on Joe Biden dishonoured not just the medal and their university, but the gift from God of their own baptisms. The debasement of their own Catholicism is what really stinks … to high heaven.

  16. clq24 says:

I have been reading a little bit about some of our early Popes. What I find interesting is that they had no problem excommunicating people who were professing or supporting ideas against the faith. I just do not understand why our bishops do not do the same thing now days.

  17. Venerator Sti Lot says:

Hmm, Mr. Boehner is reported as having very recently said, “I’m for Paul Ryan to be our nominee.” Perhaps Mr. Biden’s selection has a precautionary-promotional aspect, in case Mrs. Clinton is indeed indicted and this has any effect on her Party popularity – and as a reflection of some degree of dissatisfaction with Mr. Sanders?

  18. robtbrown says:

Meanwhile, yesterday brought the news that the 1997 recipient of the “oldest and most prestigious honor accorded to American Catholics” committed suicide on Monday.

  19. PostCatholic says:

Looking over the list of past recipients, I note Justice Brennan who voted with the majority in Roe vs. Wade, Speaker O’Neill, Senator Moynihan, Ed Muskie, Rev. Hehir, several Kennedy family members–has this ever been an award that went your way?
