    “Priestly Friends of Summorum Pontificum”

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 9:31 am

My friend Fr. Jeff Moore forwarded a copy of the following about the group Giovanni e Traditizione which has formed a group called "Amicizia sacerdotale Summorum Pontificum".

I see that it is making the rounds and that our friends over at NLM published the following:

After the conference in Rome on 16-18 September 2008, organized by Giovani e Tradizione [Youth and Tradition] under the aegis of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei to celebrate the first anniversary of the Motu proprio "Summorum Pontificum" of Pope Benedict XVI, was born the "Amicizia sacerdotale Summorum Pontificum" [Priestly Friends of Summorum Pontificum], a group of priests (diocesan, religious and seminarians) who wish to live in perfect communion and obedience to the Vicar of Christ, Successor of Peter and shepherd of the universal Church. We are eager to learn, celebrate and spread the Traditional Roman Liturgy (the Latin-Gregorian liturgy), in particular the Holy Mass. We are eager to deepen our [understanding of] Catholic theology as taught by the authoritative teaching of Holy Mother Church and as proposed by the Angelic Doctor [St. Thomas Aquinas]. We desire to live in a priestly fraternity capable of supporting the spiritual and apostolic life of the same.

These objectives will be pursued by organizing retreats, conferences, study days, prayer and fellowship.

Anyone wishing to receive information and participate in the initiatives that will be organized and proposed can write to Fr. Vincenzo M. Nuara, O.P. by the email address found on our site: www.giovanietradizione.org

    1. What an absolutely marvelous idea. This type of organisation is the very thing that is needed to support priests in their efforts and vocation. I pray that a chapter is formed in the US. Tom

    2. So would one get to write their name as John Doe, ASSP???

    3. How ‘bout an organization called “Lay Friends of Summorum Pontificum”?

    4. Regarding the choice of name: I would expect all Catholic clergy to be “friends” of S. P.
      Nothing less.

    5. Antonius —What a radical idea —- obedience to the reigning Pontiff !
It’s sad how pride has crept in and the above is not automatic.

      In Christ,

    6. But we all know that merely holding out the “ideal” of openness and obedience isn’t going to do it. Having a group like this, for solidarity and strength in numbers, could help shift the paradigm within the discussion even just by a half degree.
