GREAT NEWS! Monastery plans approved for Wyoming Carmelites

You may not have noticed, but I have been pushing Mystic Monk Coffee, sold by a new group of Carmelite monks in northern Wyoming.  I have done this to help with their cash flow before they begin to build their new monastery.

The monks faced the problem of having their buildings plans approved, in the face of resistance.

There is news that the plans were approved!

There is a story by Deacon Keith Fournier about the developments.  Here are a few excepts:

Mount Carmel Monastery Approved! Good News for the Monks and for the Church

[...]

So, now the good news; on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at an open public hearing before the Park County Board of Commissioners, the monks were given unanimous approval to proceed with the building of Mt. Carmel for America. The commissioners wanted to know whether the land will continue to be used for ranching. The monks were happy to report that it will. They intend to keep the property as a ranch as well as work the land for farming. Father Daniel Mary explained to me that with the growing resurgence of vocations to the lay brotherhood (not all monks are clerics) the Lord had already brought ranchers to the community who would help with 1,000 head of cattle that will graze on Mt. Carmel.

Here is a link to a story in a local paper.

Brick by brick, coffee can by coffee can! Great news

  2. Eric says:

I hope the commisioners enjoy their coffee.

  3. irishgirl says:

This is such great news! I’m glad that sensible and cooler heads prevailed in the approval process!

I’m not a coffee drinker myself-does things to my heart-I’m a tea person. Now if the monks were able to raise tea bushes (or whatever tea is grown on) I’d buy something like that.

  4. Supertradmum says:

Praise God and thank Him for His grace here.

  5. Camaldolese says:

Two of their brothers will be ordained priests this Friday, October 15, the feast of St. Teresa of Jesus, in the cathedral of Cheyenne, after having studied at the Fraternity of St. Peter’s Seminary in Lincoln. I am sure they would appreciate all your prayers.

  6. rocbin says:

God Bless you Fr. Z for the helping hand, and God Bless the monks and their work. I pray, and will continue to do so, for a fruitful and blessed future for all connected with the Monastery.
Like “irishgirl”, I’m not a coffee drinker either [perhaps it's got something to do with my being Irish! Not not to mention my defective heart!!]

  7. mdillon says:

    You’re pushing Mystic Monk Coffee?

  8. Liz says:

Woohoo! Answered prayers!!! Thanks be to God!!! Thanks for letting us know, Father.

  9. Inkstain says:

This is great news. Deo Gratias

  10. Gladiatrix says:

Very pleased for the Wyoming monks but sad for our North East seminarians in England; for those of you who haven’t yet heard Ushaw will be closing its doors soon for lack of vocations.

  11. Tony Layne says:

LOL! Father, have you no shame?

Oh, that reminds me … I have to go and refill my cup with Breakfast Blend! It is swell!

And as for our monks: Praised be Jesus Christ, now and forever!

  12. J Kusske says:

If the brothers are raising coffee trees in Northern Wyoming, IrishGirl, I’d be flabbergasted. So I see no reason why they couldn’t add an arrow or two of top-notch tea to their quiver.

  13. Father G says:

Congratulations to the monks!!! I wish I could toast them with a cup of coffee…but I am not a coffee drinker. Do they make hot chocolate????

  14. Fr_Sotelo says:

Laus Deo! Now I am definitely going to get around to ordering some of that coffee. And Camaldolese, thanks for the even better news of two more priests getting ordained.

  15. stpetric says:

I wish the community all the best. But am I alone in seeing their plan as at least a little grandiose? A friend of mine described it well as “Parkminster with Chartres dropped into the middle of it”!

  16. Jayna says:

I just bought a bag of the Mystic Monk blend and a two-handled mug for my priest. The man pretty much mainlines the stuff, so if he gets hooked on this blend, he could probably fund the entire monastery himself.
