Fr. Z begs a favor on St. Joseph’s Day

May I ask a favor?

Fr. Kirby at Vultus Christi posted a prayer to St. Joseph for a particular priest.

Will you please bookmark it or print it and … say it for me once in a while?

PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH FOR A PARTICULAR PRIEST

Saint Joseph,
I present to you this day
Father N., priest of Jesus Christ,
and beg you to be to him
advocate and defender,
counselor and friend.
Open your heart to him
as you opened your home to the Virgin Mother
in her hour of need.
Protect his holy priesthood
as you protected the life of the Infant Christ
threatened by cruel Herod.
In darkness bring him light;
in weakness, strength,
and in fear the peace that passes understanding.
For the sake of the tender love that bound you
to the Virgin Mary and the Infant Christ,
be for him, Saint Joseph, a constant intercessor
and a shield against every danger of body, mind, and soul
so that, in spite of his weaknesses and sins,
his priesthood may bring glory to Christ
and serve to increase the beauty of holiness
in his bride the Church.
Amen.

If not for me, for another priest?

Thank you for this beautiful prayer. I’ll say it for you, Fr. Z, and for several other priests, as well.

  2. PeterC says:

Father, I hope this can be said for bishops as well (or is there a prayer just for them?). I will ask my students to pray this prayer for you and a list of priests they know and should know. :)

  3. cmcbocds says:

St. Joseph is particularly dear to us Carmelites, so it will be a double joy to pray to him for you.

  4. Andy Milam says:

I just printed it and paper clipped it to your ordination card in my breviary. You will continue to be remembered daily.

  5. acardnal says:

I’ve printed it out and put it in my missal. I will use it to pray for you and about a dozen other priests I pray for daily.

  6. JayDeee says:

    Done.

  7. Mike says:

A wonderful prayer. I will print out, and pray for priest in question, among others!

    Thank you!

  8. Kathryn says:

I love this prayer, Father! And I have prayed it for you and will again.

  9. Charles E Flynn says:

Homiletic and Pastoral review has a good article about Saint Joesph:

A Prayerful Meditation on St. Joseph, by Dr. Edouard Belaga. Be sure to read the description of Dr. Belaga at the end.

  10. yatzer says:

Yes, altho I pray for you and a number of other priests already.

  11. AnAmericanMother says:

Saying the prayer for you, for the priests of our parish, and for other priests of my acquaintance as well. Going to be busy here for awhile . . . . :-D

  12. Rich says:

Dear Fr. Z., I am honored to pray this prayer for you now and often. Perhaps making an icon for it as you have for the daily offering to our Blessed Mother on the sidebar? An icon of St. Joseph right underneath our Blessed Mother’s? I tell you what – this prayer will be offered for you and other priests quite often if that happens…I’m just sayin’…

  13. Uncledan says:

    Done!

  14. Liz says:

Certainly, Fr. Z. Happy Feast Day!

  15. Centristian says:

Of course…and what a beautiful prayer. I have your name inscribed in my Christian Prayer so that any time I use it in prayer, I pray for you, as I did tonight at the Mass for the Feast of St. Joseph, celebrated beautifully, at the Carmelite Monastery in my hometown.

  16. brotherfee says:

Wonderful prayer. I truly believe that Satan works harder on our religious men and women to try to get them to fail. If he can bring down a priest, the laity suffers much discouragement. Therefore, our religious need our constant prayers and thoughts. God bless our priests.

  17. poohbear says:

Done, for you and for my Bishop. And I second the idea of a link on the sidebar.

  18. jilly4ski says:

I have a long list of Fr. John/Jon’s to pray for (including you, the priest that married me, another parish priest, and Archbishop Nienstedt). Thank you for this beautiful prayer to help strengthen and protect our wonderful (and struggling) priests.

  19. xsosdid says:

Prayed for you just now and will keep this handy and pray it often (I have other priests on my list as well). I really like Rich’s idea above for an icon right there near the daily offering.

  20. thefeds says:

Done, Father Z. God bless you and your ministry.

  21. Panterina says:

Done. What a beautiful prayer! This will become one of my favorite prayers, for you and for other priests of Jesus Christ.

  22. pm125 says:

OK. Will copy into little book I carry. Angels of God spoke to St. Joseph and he reliably listened to the messages. I hope he carries this prayer for you and other priests to our Father.

  23. Sword40 says:

I’ll offer an extra Rosary every day for a week. God Bless

Just wrote this prayer down in a little notebook I carry in my purse.
I prayed it to myself here in the library for you, Father Z, and for my dear priest-friend in England (ordained by Blessed John Paul II thirty years ago this coming May).
    Thank you for posting this!
I echo MyBrokenFiat’s last line: ‘We love you guys!’ ; )
