Solidarity with an initiative in Rome of support for Benedict XVI on 27 Feb

My friend the great Roman Fabrizio sent me an article about an initiative of support in Rome for Pope Benedict in his last days as Bishop of Rome.

At CulturaCattolica.it we read:

On 27 February, His Holiness Benedict XVI’s last evening in the Vatican, we want to promote a silent candle/torchlight demonstration (fiaccolata) at St. Peter’s from 7 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For those who cannot come to Rome, we ask that at the same hour you display a candle and observe a minute of silence at precisely 8:00 p.m.

The piece is signed by “The nuns of Eucharistic Adoration”.

Cool and I wish we could all be in Rome on that day. What a witness.

  2. benedetta says:

This is beautiful. We look forward to participating from afar.

  3. Legisperitus says:

Is Rome an hour ahead of GMT? [Yes. Rome is one hour ahead of GMT/UTC.]

  4. TundraMN says:

@Legisperitus: Yes Rome is GMT+1. EST is GMT -5, CST is GMT -6, and so on. So 8 pm in Rome is 6 hours ahead of EST, where it will be 2 pm.

  5. fvhale says:

Dear Legisperitus, Yes. CET (Central European Time) is one hour ahead of GMT. They also use CEST (Central European Summer Time), roughly corresponding to “Daylight Savings Time.”
Since I live in Pacific Time, in California, Rome is usually 9 hours ahead of my local time; GMT would be 8 hours ahead of me.

Glad Pacific Time was noted as I too, live in California and will very much be participating. I am going to let some friends and other family members know as well. Thanks for the information, Fr. Z. ^^

  8. Skeinster says:

This is so great. Will certainly participate. Wonder if Fr. would let us have an hour of Adoration from 1-2 (that’s our time zone.)?

  9. Legisperitus says:

Candles ready? Not long to go now.
