PODCAzT 89: Imitation of Christ – temptation, consolation; Fr. Z rambles on the world, the flesh, the devil

It has been a long time since I have made a PODCAzT.

I thought a quick project might get me back into the swing of things after many computer problems and being a little burned out.

Today we hear from Thomas a Kempis (+1471) in a selection from The Imitation of Christ 3,3, taken today from the Office of Readings in the Liturgia horarum.  We hear about how God “visits” us with temptations and with consolations.

I then ramble for quite a while on temptations, with some tactics on dealing with temptations and how to get rid of bad habits. I don’t neglect some tough talk about the world, the flesh and the devil and that we are soldiers of the Church Militant, not the Church Comfortable.  We are beset by enemies.

wonderful Fr. Z. this is the first time I’ve had the pleasure of listening to your podcast, and it was great. Exactly what alonfession over and over again for the same sin, and if we’re truely sorry, of course God will forgive us, but we all need a plan to quit doing something, or in some cases do what ever it is we need to do. Great reminder of that, and yes, I think all of us here are always interested in what you have to say and of course prayers are always sent your way. Thanks for them in return, I need all of the prayers I can get right now.

oy…. forgive the screen reader gag. I guess I’m having my own computer issues… sigh… I don’t have the energy to rewrite that, woke up at quarter to 5 and not even a rosary would help me relax and find sleep again. I think it’s bed time… JFW will be the end of me.

Thanks for the Podcazt! The tips/advice were very useful. Can you recommend a good examination of conscience?

Any chance of some more Don Camillo in the next PodcaZt?

  14. Matthew: Don Camillo? Well… perhaps. I need to see some interest in the PODCAzTs, however. I watch the stats.

Thanks, Father! Excellent podcast, once again.

    In Christ,

Does anyone else experience a little difficulty with iTunes and the PODCAzTs? The WDTPRS podcast never downloads automatically in my iTunes, but all the other podcasts to which I subscribe do so. For WDTPRS I need to go in and click “Update Podcast”. Not a big deal, just a minor curiosity and annoyance.

  17. Magpie says:

Thank you Father. I was wondering when you’d offer your next podcazt and was pleasantly surprised earlier. I really appreciate them, especially when you offer guidance and helps on the spiritual life.

  18. Paulus says:

This podcazt has advice I can use every day. Thanks again, Father.
