I picked up on this from CMR.
At a recent conference in Washington, DC, House Speaker pro-abortion Catholic Democrat Nancy "the theologian" Pelosi (D-CA) said:
“I would hope that there’s one thing that we can do working together as we go forward that speaks to what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every person — and that is on the subject of immigration,” Pelosi said in her remarks. “Because I think the Church is going to have to play a very major role in how we, in how people are treated.”
Even in the matter of whether they will be allowed to be born?
Madame Speaker?
I read the CNS piece too… and then went and washed my faces and hands. BLECH.
Oh Father – hearing it is even worse. She said, “… *bishops come to me* [!] asking me to pass immigration reform legislation… and I tell them *I need their help* to get the word out to those sitting in pews …”
*BLECH* !
No matter how cynical I get, I can’t keep up!
Ms. Pelosi, what’s a “person”?
Nice to hear the Speaker of the House echo the first principle of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Wish Catholics would adopt it, too.
Even the devil can quote scripture.
Judging from Cardinal Mahoney’s over the top comments about the Arizona bill I think Pelosi and the Democrats will get their wish and the bishops of the American church will push hard for granting amnesty to the 12 – 20 million illegals.
The only difference this time will be the American nuns will stand with the bishops allowing the American church to be fully united in embracing the Democrat Party agenda on this. Which the American church does pretty much on everything Democrat/secular (global warming, income redistribution – the list goes on) except abortion and even there the American church including some bishops sends mixed signals.
If the woman doesn’t repent, she’s in for a rude awakening on her definition of (human) “dignity”.
Every person except the unborn, eh, Madame Speaker? What an embarrassment to our Holy Church!
Well, one thing is for certain, we have a couple of very fine rhetors in office in this country. It’s too bad rhetoric as close to the truth as pastry-cooking is to medicine!
Ms. Pelosi, tsk, tsk, don’t you know about the separation of Church and State? I thought the Church was supposed to shut up and sit down, oh, wait..that’s only unless you need some faux Catholic groups, nuns, etc. to help you push the pro-abortion Health Care reform bill down the throats of the American people.
There is a word for people like Pelosi and the president, a word I won’t use here. Suffice it to say that she will say and do anything to get her agenda passed. Lies? No problem. Deals with the devil? That’s no problem either. For Pelosi and people of her ilk it’s all about the power and prestige of getting THEIR legislation passd no matter what the cost and no matter the immorality. Also no matter whether the majority of U S voters want it either. Using others to achieve her goals is nothing new for her. She studied and practices Machiavellian politics very well as does her so-called leader.
Wash face and hands? This woman inspires me to have my eyes laundered with hot water and belach.
And bleach, too.
What she means is “the dignity and worth of every person” … able to vote Democrat.
@ TundraMN
Love the reference to Plato’s “Gorgias.” Although I am not sure that Socrates was being entirely serious.
I’d comment on the post, but it makes me nauseous!
Well, that was a good laugh courtesy of ‘PostCatholic’. I’m so glad that there is some group out there for the people that believe in nothing. The real question is, ‘Why doesn’t Nancy join you?’ The funniest part of, forgive me, UU ‘Principles’ was “Humanist teachings which…warn us against the idolatries of the mind and spirit.” If that isn’t a summary of UU philosophy, I don’t know what is; “idolatry of the mind and spirit”. UU allows everyone to make up their own religion under the umbrella of one organization. It’s the ultimate cafeteria and quintessentially American and not ‘universalist’ at all.
I saw Pelosi’s photo on the EWTN/CNA website last week-I couldn’t look at her or read the story, she makes me nauseous!
BLECH, indeed!
Did any of you see what Bill O’Reilly did to her on air tonight
