Gay marriage lobbyists welcome Fr Bob Maguire’s pledge

UPDATE 7.48am: GAY marriage lobbyists have welcomed Father Bob Maguire’s public pledge to conduct gay union ceremonies, but claim he’s not the first priest to speak out in favour of the cause.  [Again, I repeat my outrage at the spiritual abuse against happy virtuous people by homosexuals who hijack the word “gay”.]

Australia Marriage Equality national secretary Peter Furness said this morning it was encouraging to see a Catholic priest speak publicly about the issue.

“There are many priests who support and want the right to marry same sex couples,” Mr Furness said. [Suspension.]

“(But) people are scared of their bosses to do it publicly.” [If they do it secretly suspend them.]

Mr Furness said a number of religious leaders had made submissions to a 2009 senate inquiry in favour of gay marriage, but some were not willing to go public with their views.

“The Australian Christian Lobby would have us think that there is one viewpoint from the church, but there’s not,” he said.

“There are lots of different viewpoints. We have been contacted by many religious leaders who have said they want to do gay ceremonies.”  [Catholic clerics should be suspended.]

Fr Maguire said he would perform a civil ceremony for a homosexual couple – but not in a church[Indeed?]

Interesting, Fr. Maguire thinks that priests should be allowed to conduct homosexual civil ceremonies, as though there’s nothing wrong with the union of two men, but would not do it in a church? If there’s nothing wrong with it, why not do it in a church? Isn’t he supposed to be a representative of the church in all that he does. I wish people would learn logic skills a little better, it could solve a lot of our problems.

  2. Bornacatholic says:

Dear Father Z. This post about the satanic attempt to sanctify perversion prompted me to post these thoughts from Laura Wood about homosexuals who use technology to “create” their families and what monsters those people are.

Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon poses here with the newborn baby of her lover, Christine Marinoni. The Daily Mail refers to the baby, who was born last week, as the couple’s son, expecting readers to swallow nonsense whole and slide down the rabbit hole of artificially-created insanity without raising the slightest objection or cry for help.

Nixon, who plays an emotionally sterile wife in the Sex and the City movie, says, “I’m just a woman in love with another woman.”

Despite her madonna-like pose in this photograph, Nixon is a typical anti-mother of our times, a person who has violated the most basic terms of motherhood.

Homosexual “parents” are similar to the Baba Yagas of ancient fairy tales who stalked children in the woods. They may not have pointy noses or broomsticks. They may not live in tiny cabins surrounded by fences made of human bones. But they are just as hostile to the young, snatching away their innocence and security, stealing them from their tiny cradles. Deliberately to deprive a child of a father, to arrange his conception the way one might arrange a major purchase, to raise him in a home without a man, cut off from half his kin and exposed to the shame of having two “mothers,” is nothing less than child abuse.

What has happened to the hearts of lesbians? They are shriveled and turned to stone.

    But see this:

Evidently Fr. Maguire is now claiming he was “misquoted.”

  4. MikeS says:

I feel like I’ve heard of this Fr Maguire before. Has he been in the news for similarly objectionable behavior and statements before?

  5. What’s with the stix-i-fix in the picture? That’s not so much an artwork as an invitation for the bishop to use it as a paddle on that dissenting old guy.

  6. digdigby says:

I didn’t really understand what is going on till I read “The Way of the Lamb: The Spirit of Childhood and the End of the Age” by John Saward.

The Beast, The Dragon, The Primordial Moloch, the Eternal Herod wants to devour the Child and besmirch all innocence and shrivel all hope. Herod’s palace is gorgeous (ought to be in Architectural Digest!) and there’s a 24/7 orgy, but his cellar is full of murdered babies.

  7. Oh, crimony. This guy has his own Wikipedia page. He’s a media personality. He has a Foundation named after himself. He’s ALREADY been asked to retire and get the heck out of his parish.

I think they need to stop asking.

  8. robtbrown says:

I notice that Fr Maguire is 75 yrs old, which means he was probably ordained about the time that VatII started.

He fits the profile. [I know wonderful priests ordained in that period.]

  9. If he retracted what was misquoted, that’s fine and good. But a priest shouldn’t be encouraging civil unions of any kind, homosexual or not — much less officiating. And it’s his 50th anniversary of his priesthood today, according to his blog, so he’s surely old enough to know better.

  10. kolbe1019 says:

Will they not be suspended? If not, why not?

  11. Elizabeth D says:

I am aware that Fr Z will probably consider this not-adequately-focused-on-topic-at-hand, [then… what are you doing?] but I am concerned about the willingness of religious communities to receive homosexuals as members, and I say that as someone who has truly always liked the people in question. Since a homosexual person is not interested in marrying, their religious profession is not only not a renunciation of marriage, but could even be understood by them as a kind of commitment to others of the same sex. I also believe that, just as a single heterosexual woman like myself should want not to live a common life with a man or men, because even if it is chaste there is strong possibility of giving scandal, when people know there are homosexuals in a religious community, even if they are men or women of personal virtue there is the strong possibility of giving scandal, even without “homophobia” being the issue. I am not sure how I feel about homosexual lay people living together chastely, one of the difficulties of this disorder of homosexuality is solitude and loneliness of those good people who earnestly want to be chaste.

  12. kallman says:

This man is a media performer, he went up against authority when told to retire, he claims if asked to perform such a union he would ask the authorities then tell the requesters it cannot be done in a church and that the problem lies with the institutional church. Although his words may have been exaggerated by others his fundamental premise goes against the teaching of the Church.

  13. Norah says:

The articles below will give you an idea of what sort of priest Bob Maguire is. I think that when ordained, priests pledge to obey their bishop – is that correct? Bob Maguire is also in print – Kairos magazine – saying that Jesus did not come to found a Church.

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/if-im-guilty-sos-archbishop-denis-hart-says-fr-bob-maguire/story-e6frf7jo-1225772445582

    http://www.theage.com.au/national/deal-close-on-father-bob-20090924-g39f.html

I think Bob Maguire refused to retire but the archdiocese is managing the funds of his parish – something about parish funds being used to fund Maguire’s charity. He is in print saying that Jesus did not come to found a Church.

  14. wmeyer says:

If Fr. Maguire will marry homosexuals, but not in a church, then clearly Fr. Maguire knows he is acting against the Church in doing so. Would this not be an act in the direction of latae sententiae? I’m just saying….

  15. EXCHIEF says:

If he does—no priest, and no marriage

  16. Rob Cartusciello says:

More signs of the triumph of the >>ME-gesterium<<.

  17. Tony Layne says:

@ Rob: I may just steal that! :^)=)

  18. vivaldi says:

As an Australian who has been aware of Fr. Bob’s antics for some time I can tell you that abolutely nothing will happen to him. In fact, he has just celebrated 50 years as a Priest and he was featured, praised and lauded on an extremely high rating current events show last night. Public disciplinary action from the Archbishop would create further scandal for sure.

He is co-host of a popular radio show too and has a big following among non catholics.

He refused to retire when asked and there was a public clash between Fr. Bob and the Archbishop.

There is a nasty side to this Priest despite his robin hood image in the media.

  19. JARay says:

I am sure that I have seen him on the TV, running a soup-kitchen for down-and-outs. He clearly showed himself as being against “authority” and scornful of traditional Catholicism.
I quite agree with Vivaldi above “There is a nasty side to this Priest despite his robin hood image in the media.”

The situation in Catholic Australia is bleak, and has been for many years, not withstanding George Cardinal Pell’s valiant efforts at reform. The continent is a bed of dissent. 21. tzard says:

Whatever else he’s done, the issue at hand: There’s a direct quote from him:

”Spread the word, comrades. I will not do gay weddings. I cannot do gay weddings. The (newspaper) headliner is wrong.”

  22. irishgirl says:

Why can’t this priest-and those who advocate homosexual ‘marriage’-get it through their thick skulls that ‘marriage’ between men and men [and women and women, for that matter] is STERILE by its very nature?
I am so sick and tired of the homosexual agenda and how they want to shove it down everyone else’s throat!
This priest should be suspended, pronto!

  23. robtbrown says:

    robtbrown says:

He fits the profile. [I know wonderful priests ordained in that period.]

So do I. But I also know that the Congregation of Bishops had trouble finding decent candidates among priests of that generation.

  24. Norah says:

The situation in Catholic Australia is bleak, and has been for many years, not withstanding George Cardinal Pell’s valiant efforts at reform.

The trouble is that Cardinal Pell doesn’t have much vocal support from his fellow bishops. Even the few orthodox ones are more of the “I am personally opposed but…” variety.

The continent is a bed of dissent.

Dissent and indifferentism. Consumerism and breaking the sixth commandment are the the favourite occupations.

If one wants to get a sampling of the nonsense that takes place daily, have a look at catholica.com.au/ a favorite watering hole for Aussie dissenters.
This vile website is supported by the Australian Catholic Bishops commission!

  25. MichaelJ says:

Elizabeth D. Why are you not sure how you ” feel about homosexual lay people living together chastely”? You’ve already stated, quite correctly in my opinion, that heterosexual couples should not “because even if it is chaste there is strong possibility of giving scandal”

I supect it is becaue you, like me, have been pilloried for holding homosexuals to the same standard of behavior as everyone else. George Orwell was right. Some are “more equal” than others

  26. Deesis says:

The area of the inner city of Sydney where he is a priest has a high concentration of active homosexuals with the homosexual district a few miles away. Is it right to think or act in this way because it might sooth the consciences and sense that homosexual activity even for serial homosexual monogamy does not work. I do not think he really grasps the emotional/ psychological realities of those with same sex attraction. It is a downward spiral towards death. Does he get it? I feel sorry for Father Mcguire.
