5 May – Rome – Solemn TLM at St. Mary Major for St. Pius V

For anyone hanging about in Rome on 5 May:

On 5 May at 15,30 at the Alta of the Salus Populi Romani in St. Mary Major there will be a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form to celebrate the Feast of St. Pius V, whose tomb is in the basilica.  The celebrant will be Msgr. Guido Pozzo, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei” and the music will be provided by the Franciscans of the Immaculate.

Fantastic. I would love to be there. Wonderful basilica too.

  3. Fr. Zuhlsdorf, by any chance, has a little birdy told you that the Instruction on Summorum Pontificum will be released on that day?

  4. Andrew says:

But who goes to Mass at 3:30 in the afternoon?

  5. MarkJ says:

It would be a nice touch if, at the end of Mass, the first copies of the Instruction on Summorum Pontificum were handed out…

  6. MJ says:

Been there! Saw the tomb! Beautiful basilica. St Praxedes is just around the corner, too. Wish I could be there for the TLM!

  7. Hieronymus says:

This is great news. I am sure St. Pius V is pleased. I’m sure St. Francis is poking him in the ribs a bit, too.

  8. Seraphic Spouse says:

I went. It was a beautiful Mass. The Franciscan (?) choir was very good. There were perhaps 40 people there.
