I saw you tweeted to Tornielli that you were “disappointed”, but as I don’t know Italian, I couldn’t discern by what.
I suppose this is like the 11th Commandment (at least in Swedish Lutheran circles…), Thou shalt not be flabbergasted : ) ?
I find it more interesting that Venice is still vacant.
By the way, the list of the new cardinals: http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/event/cs2012.html

Interesting that Abp. Dolan received the red hat even though Cardinal Egan is still eligible to vote in a papal election and they usually don’t have 2 voting cardinals in the same archdiocese. Glad to see they went ahead with Abp. Dolan though as I think he is good for the church in the US.
I’m always more fascinated by who doesn’t make the list. It’s interesting that Dolan got it while Egan is still voting, as JonPatrick points out, but it’s more interesting that Nichols didn’t get it, since he’s in the exact same situation with Murphy-O’Connor.
No Africans, only one Latin American (and a curial one at that), a seeming preponderance of Italians and Iberians. The Maronites, Syrians, Armenians, Ukrainians and Melkites passed over…
Dum spiro spero is my motto.
Once a StL Cardinal, always a StL Cardinal! We’d rather have him than Pujols!

Thus I hope I will not be disappointed.

John Cardinal Zuhlsdorf. Hmmm.
See, the problem was that you haven’t got a musical name…like “Coccopalmerio”. This conclave was clearly for clergy with fun names only…just ask Tom Collins (guess what everyone’s going to be drinking at happy hour in the Archdiocese of Toronto tonight). I’m afraid, Father, that you’ll have to wait for a future conclave that elevates clergy with vanilla names. Perhaps when the day comes, Ranier Welki and John Tong Hon be there to assist you with your galero.
The Eastern Patriarchs are more and more refusing The Red Hat from what I’ve been reading.
‘John Cardinal Zuhlsdorf’….uhm, I think that sounds pretty ‘musical’ to me!
Maybe it’s due to the fact that I’m half-German!
