Bumber.
Safe trip.
I thought we didn’t’ believe in Limbo anymore.
Wow, Father! Languishing looks pretty good!
Safe travel!
At least you found a great leather coat in Manhattan somewhere!
So, Father…how are you liking that MacBook Pro?
Haven’t heard any comments…and saw it open in the article…
Safe flight.
[The jury is still out on a final verdict, but right now I give it a 6/10. I find it less than easily to navigate and it forces me to do things its way rather than my way. IT is therefore wrong.]
Hate to harp on this, but did you get to the Morgan Library’s exhibit on the Eucharist and Corpus Christi? One of the best I’ve ever seen. (Apologies for my 3rd post on this over the last week.)
Giuseppe
[The exhibit was interesting but there were a couple flaws. More than one hand wrote the descriptions, and some were odd. I found the MSS in some of the cases placed so that use of a magnifying glass was virtually impossible. But a few of the books were true treasures.]
Father Z.,
would you recommend the new author which are reading?
[I warmly recommend O’Brien! This one? We shall see.]
I started reading Under Enemy Colors, when I can squeeze a page or two in at night, but have never read the Patrick O’Brien books. I see you are getting good dose of S.T.Russell lately and am curious how you think they compare?
[Russell is intent on showing the dysfunctional side of the Royal Navy and how the protagonist overcomes the odds within it. That creates a different tone. He also has some digressions that I haven’t especially liked. But he tells a good story. O’Brien is still the master and commander of the genre.]
A Mac forcing you to do things its way? Imagine!
I find them pretty, and overpriced. I have yet, however, to find any notebook that I would willingly use for any period of time if I had the option of using a desktop machine. That said, I have a growing desire to try the Win 8 Surface–not the Win RT model–as it combines a very attractively light package with what may be a tolerable keyboard. And the real need for a keyboard when writing more than two words of pidgin is what deters me from most tablets.
Father are you going to Sacra Liturgia 2013 in Rome?.
I was off for the weekend, so I know it was not me who afflicted you! Hope your next experience is better.
Our house is “all-Mac”. Hubby and I love them. We have a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and some other Mac products around. They are pricey but they_just_work. When I first made the move from PC to Mac I was a little lost for awhile…took a couple weeks for me to adjust to the new OS and everything. But now? I’d never look back. Give it time Fr Z, and I think you’ll come to adjust your verdict to at least an 8/10 (if not higher!). :)
Wanted to also say – not only have we found that Macs just work, they also just last. My work MacBook Pro is 5 years old and still running awesome. My husband’s MacBook Pro is, I think, a 2006 model and it’s still running awesome (he put a SSD in it, wow the thing is so quiet and fast!). So we have found that you get more “run rate” with a Mac than with a PC….seems like PCs just don’t last the way Macs do.
“Listen to me. We’ve got all kinds of atmospheric cabin pressure up here. We’re a little
late, so the Colonel’s put the hammer down in a 747. You’ve got windshear, downdraft,
massive turbulence, not to mention four giant engines burning jet fuel at galactic
temperatures. We’re standing in a flying death tube!”
And you’re a little late? Geesh!
[Nice WW quote!]

We had the same experience as you, Father. This was last week Monday going from California to British Columbia. Five hours of waiting at the airport for the pilot to arrive from another flight. When he did arrive, there were no flight attendants because the ones who were assigned were sent on another flight. Just on and on and on. By the time we arrived at our destination it was about 4:00am in the morning. With two hours of sleep but trying to look sharp we attended our nephews convocation at the University of British Columbia – a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering. All in all it was a great two weeks vacation.
