Card. Müller: “the real danger to today’s humanity is the greenhouse gases of sin and the global warming of unbelief”

Was was alerted to an item in German.  It seems that Gerhard Ludwig Card. Müller gave quite the sermon last Saturday in Rome for the ordination of Michael Sulzenbacher, SJM.

The whole text in German is on

Here are some of the most important parts…

On the current crisis:

But the Church, founded by God and made up of human beings, is, according to its human side, in a deep, man-made crisis of its credibility. In this dramatic moment, we suspect and fear the possible negative consequences of scandals and leadership mistakes. Involuntarily we think of the splitting of Western Christendom in the sixteenth century or the secularization of spiritual life in the wake of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution.

On the causes:

Not clericalism, whatever that may be, [Do I hear an “Amen!”?] but the turning away from the truth and moral lawlessness are the roots of the evil. [One particular lawless sin, as a matter of fact, and then complicity of the corrupt who covered it over.] The corruption of teaching always entails the corruption of morality and manifests itself in it. The grave rejection of the sanctity of the Church without remorse is the result of relativizing the dogmatic foundation of the Church[For example… that adulterers can receive Communion ultimately will lead to approbation of homosexual perversion… at any age.]

On reforms:

What is behind the iridescent and media-friendly propaganda formula “reform of the Curia and the whole Church”, if not – as I hope – the renewal in the truth of the revelation and the following of Christ is meant? It is not the secularization of the church, but the sanctification of men for God, that is the true reform.  [Do NOT miss THE BOOK!  More below.]

It is not reform but a heresy to think that the doctrine of the Church can be kept, but for the sake of the weak man one must invent a new pastoral which diminishes the claims of the truth of the Word of God and of Christian morality.  [After all, what the Church (and Christ) teaches are just ideals that not everyone can be expected to live up to!  We have to show mercy and condone the sin while denying that God offers everyone sufficient graces to live holy lives.]

On the mission of the Church

The Church does not gain in relevance and acceptance when she adds the drag of the spirit of the times (Zeitgeist) to the world, but only when she brings the torch to her with the truth of Christ. We should not care about secondary issues and work on the agenda of others who do not want to believe that God alone is the origin and the sole purpose of man and of all creation.

For the real danger to today’s humanity is the greenhouse gases of sin and the global warming of unbelief and the decay of morality when no one knows and teaches the difference between good and evil. The best environmentalist and nature lover is the Gospel Herald that there is only survival with God, not just limited and soon, but forever and ever.

Note well that Card. Müller is quite concerned about the environment!   He didn’t go down the rabbit hole that another Cardinal wants us to avoid.  No no.  Müller faced head on the real dangers of green house gasses and global warming.

    Yes. Amen. The emerging saints…

  2. blena316 says:

    Works for me

  3. Unwilling says:

Flimsy grounds for annulment and trivialization of “indissoluble” marriage by invitation of adulterers and homosexuals to Communion obscure/dissolve any “permanency” in the father-as-model anyway. What is he who is the adult male of serial families?

  4. maternalView says:

    God bless him!

  5. Sawyer says:

He left out the need to care for immigrants into the Church so that they are fed with the truth of doctrine and the grace of the sacraments, clothed with the beauty of worship, and sheltered under the Church’s indefectibility. I’m sure that’s what Cupich and Francis mean too.

  6. Kevin says:

We are at war aren’t we? St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle….

  7. LeeGilbert says:

Padre, you write, [Do NOT miss THE BOOK! More below.]

    What book?

  8. Jann says:

How wonderful to hear him speak so strongly!

  9. AveMariaGratiaPlena says:

What a great man he is. As painful & terrible as his firing from the CDF was, in a way it’s a badge of honor to be badly treated by Team Francis. It shows you’re doing something truly good.

  10. Malta says:

“For the real danger to today’s humanity is the greenhouse gases of sin and the global warming of unbelief …” Hahaha!-I hope pope Francis has the wherewithal to read that; though I doubt he does.

  11. Malta says:

I was at first excited that a Latino pope was elected; my childhood friend, Eduardo, is from Argentina, and we’re friends to this day. But this pope is a trip: he thinks he’s super-clever, but says things that let-out what he really thinks. He’s a pro-homosexual leftist weirdo. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t believe in the True Body of Christ in the Eucharist.

  12. TonyO says:

Malta, I don’t really think he is pro-homosexualist, so much as against the traditional understanding of sin and moral reality. I don’t so much think that he believes active homosexuals are doing themselves good when they get “married”, rather that they are not damaging themselves gravely by being actively homosexual and by pretending their “marriage” is real. At least that’s my sense from the comments he has made. But I could be wrong.

I would refine the “greenhouse” comment by adding that the decay of moral sense, and the repudiation of orthodox teaching in its integrity, are themselves producing the greenhouse gasses of homosexual activity, abuse, and licentiousness; and these greenhouse outgassings have as their effect the global warming of corrupted seminaries and chanceries, which cannot be bothered to check the causes thereof. There should be no doubt that even though Pope St. Pius X warned us of modernism in the early 1900’s, the bishops let modernists into the seminaries and universities in the 1930s and 1040s, with the predictable effect on the seminaries by the 1960s: a devastating loss of understanding of the wholeness and irreformable rightness of Catholic doctrine. Even the bishops who are not themselves out-and-out modernists in their philosophical beliefs are unable to articulate the errors of the modernists nor able to discern it in the educational institutions under their responsibility. Hence they do nothing to impeded it being passed on to new generations of students, including new seminarians. When was the last time you heard of a bishop explicitly denying the “mandamus” to a theologian at a university for his heterodox teaching? Ever? ( When was the last time you heard of a so-called “Catholic” university actively explaining how they carry out oversight of the orthodoxy of their professors, and make public those professors who fail to receive a mandamus? More likely than not, you cannot find out from a university whether a theology professor has a mandamus, they treat it as if it were a private matter with the bishop.)

  13. Matamoros says:

As I recall, this is the same Card. Müller who railed against Bp. Williamson, refused him to say mass in his diocese and stated that anyone who was against the judaization of the Church could never be a bishop of the Church.

  14. Elizabeth D says:

Um okay, so we know how you feel about “Moros” and apparently the same sentiments about Jews?? A Christian cannot have this mentality.

Israel is the covenant bride of God; an unfaithful bride, nevertheless the remnant of Israel was washed by the blood and water from the pierced side of the Jewish Messiah, becoming the newborn virgin bride Church, the new Israel. This is who we are, spiritually. The Catholic Religion is not a different religion than Judaism, but its fulfillment. The new and everlasting covenant is precisely that foreseen and longed for from of old by the Jewish people.
