Bishop available for Pontifical “Tridentine” Masses

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 3:09 am

I believe with the coming indult, there will be many traditionalist communities interested in having Pontifical Masses. Sometimes it is hard to find an available bishop.

Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, retired auxiliary bishop of Detroit, announced at Sunday Mass Dec. 17 that he was being asked to leave St. Leo’s Parish in Detroit, where he has been stationed since 1983.

Gumbleton told NCR that he expects a new pastor to be appointed within a month. He also said he expects to continue his weekly column, The Peace Pulpit, on the NCR website.

What kind of car am I?

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 2:49 am

So, what kind of car are you?

This is what I am… I guess. I am not sure I get this, but… nemo est iudex in causa propria.

    I’m a Ferrari 360 Modena!

You’ve got it all. Power, passion, precision, and style. You’re sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you’re expensive and high-maintenance, but you’re worth it.

Last Days of Advent: 20 December

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM, WDTPRS — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 12:12 am

Here is the Collect for 20 December, during this period of intense prayer and longing for the Lord’s Coming.

    COLLECT:
    Deus, cuius ineffabile Verbum,
    Angelo nuntiante, Virgo immaculata suscepit,
    et, domus divinitatis effecta,
    Sancti Spiritus luce repletur,
    quaesumus, ut nos, eius exemplo,
    voluntati tuae humiliter adhaerere valeamus.

This is from Rotulus 30 published together with the Veronese Sacramentary. It is not in any previous edition of the Missale Romanum.

    LITERAL VERSION:
    O God, whose ineffable Word
the immaculate Virgin took up when the herald Angel was speaking,
and, having been made the dwelling of divinity,
was filled with the light of the Holy Spirit,
we beseech You, that, by her example,
we may be able humbly to adhere to Your will.

In this prayer we taking a moment to look back to the moment of the Incarnation, which made the Coming to light of the Incarnate Word possible for us.

Here is the Collect for Wednesday of the 3rd Week of Advent.

    COLLECT:
    Praesta, quaesumus, omnipotens Deus,
    ut Filii tui ventura sollemnitas
et praesentis nobis vitae remedia largiatur,
    et praemia aeterna concedat.

This prayer was in Rotulus 6 published with the Veronese Sacramentary.

    LITERAL VERSION:
Almighty God, grant, we beseech You,
that the upcoming solemn feast of Your Son,
both may lavish upon aids healing us of this present life,
