SEMINARIAN ALERT: Seminaries and the Traditional Roman Missal?

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 1:36 pm

I would like some news from seminarians or seminary instructors.

What is happening in your seminary with the "Traditional Latin Mass"?

Are there celebrations of the older Mass now?  Are there plans?

Is there instruction for men now to learn to celebrate Mass with the 1962 Missale Romanum?  Are there plans?

What about the Rituale Romanum?  Any training for how to marry, bury and baptize?

Let’s avoid rumors.  Let’s get facts.

Thursday of the 2nd Week of Advent

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM, WDTPRS — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 10:12 am

    We continue our Advent project.

Here is the Collect for Thursday of the 2nd Week of Advent

    COLLECT:

    Excita, Domine, corda nostra
    ad praeparandas Unigeniti tui vias,
    ut, per eius adventum,
    purificatis tibi mentibus servire mereamur.

This was in the 1962 Missale for the 2nd Sunday of Advent.

Centuries before, the "Tridentine" Missal it was in the Gelasian Sacramentary, as well as the Gregorian.

    LITERAL VERSION:
Stir up our hearts, O Lord,
to make ready the paths for Your Only-Begotten,
    so that through His Coming
we may be worthy to serve Your with minds made pure.

    ANOTHER VERSION BEING KICKED AROUND:
Stir up our hearts, O Lord,
to prepare the paths of your Only-begotten Son,
    that through his coming
we may be found worthy to serve you
    with minds made pure.

    Hmmm… sounds familiar.

Alfons Maria Card. Stickler, S.D.B. - RIP

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 5:54 am

I got word that Alfons Maria Card. Stickler, S.D.B. has died.

    He was 97 years old.

Card. Stickler was the oldest of the College of Cardinals and a great friend of the traditional Roman liturgy.

    May he rest in peace.

The oldest of the College is now my friend and former boss Augustine Card. Mayer, OSB.
