God loveth a cheerful giver.

Hoc autem qui parce seminat parce et metet et qui seminat in benedictionibus de benedictionibus et metet.  Unusquisque prout destinavit corde suo non ex tristitia aut ex necessitate hilarem enim datorem diligit Deus.  2 Cor 9:6-7.

  1. There was more charity in the young man’s hand than some have in their entire being.

  2. Glen M says:

Tears and renewed hope. Just another reason to love this game.

“…Too many people grow up. They forget what it’s like to be twelve years old.” Walt Disney

Most parents discover what so many saints always have known, that children by and large are happy to do what is right, all on their own. What the Church and families can best offer to children through the sacraments and formation meets what they inherently already desire and encourage that good, support their good inclinations and hopes. There are all sorts of messages targeting children these days and want something from them. As the commenter says the boy showed that he was “well bred”. It takes many choices, determination, and sacrifice behind the scenes for parents to bring that about given the times we are in. But it is certainly not impossible.

What an awesome kid! The look on his face as he realizes what to do is amazing. Thanks Fr. Z for posting this.

  5. Kathryn says:

Love this and needed to see this! I love the look on his face as he decided it would be best to give the ball to the other boy :) Thanks.

  6. DominiSumus says:

What a wonderful young man. I hope both of them never forget this and live out their entire lives wth this type of generosity.

  7. Mariana says:

    Lovely children!

  8. Andreas says:

This video has revived in me a sense of hope; a much-needed resource that appears to be in rather short supply these days.

  9. Di says:

I would love to have met this young man’s parents. It seems that they have done a good job teaching him what Jesus Would Do. This gives me a sense of hope for a change, seeing someone do something good, kind and right is a wonderful thing.
God Bless You Father and I am still praying daily for you

  10. KAS says:

This kid has something more valuable than a ball or other stuff– he is a child whose parents have done a fine job and he is in possession of a well developed character! What a fine example of young manhood!

I teared up over his act of generousity.

  11. trespinos says:

“His last name’s probably Grace”, says the announcer. Sure enough. An act of kindness like that is indeed an act of grace. Thanks for posting that, Father!

  12. I thought that video was pretty good.

My husband mentioned a similar happening from a co-worker of his…said co-worker was at a game, and a little girl was reaching to catch a fly ball. Some big brute pushed her out of the way and grabbed the ball. DH’s co-worker was so incensed he went to the team store and bought an autographed ball and gave it to the little girl.
