How would you like a job wherein your shift change looks like this?

Who would like the job of minding this lighthouse?

Tillamook Light, on a big rock off the Oregon Coast, used to be manned like this. Now it’s a columbarium. I remember reading a hilarious story about hoisting a Thanksgiving turkey up to the lighthouse.

Nice lol all that is required for that job is a strong stomach and unshakable faith in divine providence!

Well, you probably will not get bored!

Pleased to see the comment on Youtube saying that it is now automated! It has been identified as being on the West coast of Brittany in France where the Atlantic is particularly stormy. Presumably many lighthouses once had to change shifts in this startling way but I believe most are now automated. It must have been a lonely life for a lighthouse keeper in the past.

Life as a Public Servant isn’t always boring.

Just another day at the office for those guys. Notice how relaxed the boat pilot was – LOL. That had to be a lot of work keeping that boat positioned – the delicate balance between not straying to far and not slamming into the lighthouse.

I love watching such scenes. One of my all time favorites is this piece which comes from a documentary. I’ve seen it several times on YouTube each with different music. If you search for Oceans and Waves in HD you should find the original to see in higher resolution. But, I’ve been on the hunt for this music. I love it with this clip even though it’s not HD.

Here is the HD version of what I just posted with some other clips and different music. It was by Disney.

I would love it. I grew up by the sea and appreciate even its worst face. And as someone of strong eremetic tendencies, the location seems perfect.

  9. Allegory for papal change?

This is actually a serious issue, since it has come to my attention that many, many elderly people are now being confined to lighthouses. Fortunately, as one sees in television commercials, there are many home service companies now that advertise the fact that they’ll help older folks with their many needs, including “lighthouse keeping.”

    Yikes!!!

I’m glad it’s now automated. Too dangerous.
Diane at Te Deum Laudamus, that IS stunning video and music. When Disney isn’t busy insulting Catholics or Christianity, they can do this better than just about anyone.

I’ve paid to ride zip lines almost as bad.

I would love it! Bring my books with me, and keep watch.

At least everyone looks like they are working together.

My shift changes at the auto plant sometimes looks like the old big time wrestling bunkhouse brawls. Most times it more resembles SPY VS SPY from MAD magazine, checking everything for sabotage.

Early altar server training helped prepare me. The first thing I learned was ALWAYS check the consecration bells for tissue paper.

Looks like a blast! Better than a desk job.
