Yeahhh… this is exactly the right time to dress our clergy in pastels.

The Devil always tells us openly what he is up to.    Italians are really good at this sort of pithy wisdom.  Like…

Il diavolo non può nascondere la coda.

The Devil can’t hide his tail.

I wonder how obtuse are the people organizing the World Family meeting in Ireland truly are.

Frankly, the meeting ought to be rescheduled.   At the very least, certain homosexualist activists should not be speaking there.

Now I see the design for the designer vestments for the Masses there.

?!??!

ARE YOU JOKING?

I get the interlocking Celtic swirl thing.   Fine.

Unfortunately, I also think I get the colors.

In front of the entire world – including Ireland, if anyone there still pays attention to the Church – let’s put our top shelf prelates in … what the hell color is that anyway?… breath mint green?

Pastels?  I thought pastels were sooooo twenty-seventeen.

How tone deaf are these people?

Or, is this an example of what I was talking about before.

Those look like what I would imagine druidic pagan shamans wear in their earth worship.

  2. Sawyer says:

People tell you who they are even when they don’t think they are.

  3. chantgirl says:

    Rainbow sperm. Appropriate.

  4. Malta says:

I see a shade of pastel pink, but I think they need more purples.

Irish singer of the Cranberries died recently, a Catholic; maybe it’s by God’s grace she died before this fiasco: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7SO67RydKc&index=9&list=PL-HpFHm3OZpZtHj0gFXHiKXmgFMEZY2B7

I’m of Irish descent, and wouldn’t be able to stomach this fiasco.

  6. Malta says:

I studied the European Union at Trinity College, Dublin. I knew at the time the Maastrich Treaty was going to ruin my home land; and it did (though not completely, of course). I met with an Irish mystic named Christina Gallagher; some oppose her, some approve of her in the Catholic world (me being one of the latter). But she warned about the devastating effects of the Maastrich Treaty a decade before its effects were felt. The land of my fathers is dying.

  7. rhhenry says:

Why is the dalmatic (I think that’s what is on the far right) in purple? Will the World Family meeting last until Advent?

  8. majuscule says:

It’s the latest fetish…er, fashion in seasonal liturgical pastels. They are biblically based on Rose of Saur…er, Rose of Sharon colors. Exquisitely rendered by the famous Gaymarellis of San Francisco.

There’s a line of matching eyeshadow colors.

The kids will eat it up!

  9. teomatteo says:

My guess is that they are on loan from the episcopalian conference.

  10. Peter Stuart says:

They don’t even care anymore, and why should they? Who’s going to stop them?

  11. LeeGilbert says:

No, padre, you do not get the interlocking Celtic swirl thing. Chantgirl does. The fags in the fashion industry have been pushing that meme on men’s shirts for the better part of forty years.

Do you think the devil is really trying to hide his tail at this point? He seems rather to be celebrating his triumph over Ireland. This so “in your face.”

“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints” Eph 5:3. At this point it would be a step up to be discussing fornication, but no, throughout the Catholic world our slimy friend has us making raids on the unspeakable.

  12. Late for heaven says:

What, no rhinestones? This conference looks more like a pride march. What they should be wearing is sackcloth and ashes.

  13. pbnelson says:

Naturally, I won’t be listening to a word they say. But I *will* be noting who attends. Men with half a conscience, or at least half a brain, would do well to cancel their appearance.

  14. Sawyer says:

@ pbnelson, it’s noteworthy that Cardinal Archbishop Sean O’Malley withdrew from attending and speaking at the conference. He used what’s going on at his seminary as the cover, but I suspect he’s glad he was afforded a plausible reason not to attend.

  15. NBW says:

Is this swirl design be connected with a satanic swirl design that represents 666? Pastel really??
That whole meeting should be cancelled.

  16. NBW says:

Is this swirl design connected with a satanic swirl design that represents 666? Pastel really??
That whole meeting should be cancelled.

  17. teomatteo says:

Sawyer, yes. Hopefully Archbishop O’Malley will not attend because he really wishes to remain respected amoung the faithful so as to help clean up the mess. That would say something about those that are attending.

  18. Joy65 says:

World Family meeting in Ireland should definitely cancelled and the Pope should personally address each and every clergy member about the terrible abuse scandal that is eating up our Church from the inside. When will any clergy who is definitely pushing liberal, Uncatholic agendas and even unholy agendas be disciplined and if necessary removed. God have mercy on us, on the whole world and on your One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church.

  19. ChrisP says:

The mistake being made here is that people think the meeting is addressing Catholics. It’s not. It’s addressing Catholics, the media and the money.

  20. amulack says:

NBW, 666, that’s exactly what I saw right away, sperm shaped 666. Looks nothing like the triple Celtic spiral.

  21. WmHesch says:

Juvenal associates green hues of this sort with a cinaedus

  22. ChrisP says:

Darn auto text. The second one should be catholics.

  23. WmHesch says: Juvenal – green hues – cinaedus

YUCK. He indeed does. Satire 9. For those of you who don’t know, in Latin cinaedus is a “sodomite” or a “catamite”.

    Juvenal also wrote:

    Qui custodiet ipsos custodes?

  24. Dismas says:

You know, the more revolting, humiliating, and downright evil this Ireland meeting is turning out to be, the less that I am troubled by it. The “usual suspects” can conspire their evil all they want, the Lord shall deride them. Perhaps not in Ireland, but soon.

  25. nine man morris says:

I thought gay men were supposed to have a good fashion sense! What happened?
Seriously, girlfriend, that thing is hideous! ;P

[As we say in Italian… Il diavolo non può nascondere la coda. Molto meno le corna.]

  26. MichelleB says:

Like the other commenters, I don’t think that’s a Celtic swirl. The Celtic swirls I see online are joined at what would be the tail with the circular portions facing outward, like leaves uncurling from a center stalk.

These look like the 666 sign. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was The Omen and the 666 mark on the kid’s head from that movie.

[Now that people are talking about this… I can’t but see it. How ghastly.]

  27. Benedict Joseph says:

So much floats to the top, I hardly know what to write.
I braved reading a substantial portion of the Grand Jury Report today. As much as I ever will. It struck home because as a boy I lived in the Diocese of Allentown. I was shocked to see that one of the perpetrators arrived at the parish to which we belonged for three years just as we were transferred in 1966.
The horror stories recounted in this document are beyond comment. What can one say about utterly abhorrent madness perpetrated upon innocents?
What is not beyond comment is the nature of response of the episcopate to these events over decades. When exactly do these men get the picture and learn from previous and grossly inadequate responses – to be very kind in my characterization.
There is an absence of common sense operative in this body. It is manifested in how to handle criminal activity (you call the cops); on who to advance in positions of responsibility (no one with any sort of accusation against them, including concubinage); to how to vest at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (pastels in the current climate are laughable besides erroneous).
At best we are stuck on stupid.

  28. Joy65 says:

Just my 2 cents: Anyone that leaves the Catholic church over this or loses their Faith over this is doing exactly what satan hopes this whole mess would do. I’m not saying ignore it or brush it aside and of course there is NEVER ANY JUSTIFICATION for any abuse by anyone. Know it happened, and just keep our eyes on God.
The thing this should do is strengthen our Faith. We the laity need to get to Mass more, get us to Confession more, get us to the Sacraments more and DEFINITELY PRAY UNCEASINGLY! If every Catholic every where today and every day prayed for the Church and all who serve in Her and belong to Her imagine the amazing change we would see.
satan knows the best way is to divide and conquer. he knows if we have NO PRIEST-we have NO Eucharist, NO Mass , NO Sacraments and of course our Church is just hanging by a thread.

  29. veritas vincit says:

Joy65: I agree with you completely. Now is not the time to cut and run, but to join the battle, on our knees.

We need to place our faith in Jesus Christ and His Church, not in weak and sinful men.

Part of the grace of conversion God granted me in entering the Church was faith in the indefectibility of the Church despite human flaws. That gift is coming in very handy about now.

    Very handy indeed.

It looks like beachwear. Cover-ups worn to and from the beach on cooler days.

  31. PetersBarque says:

Maybe little demons conjured these up in return for the Vatican loaning vestments to the Met.

  33. Semper Gumby says:

I agree with post and comments, something isn’t right here. Perhaps these vestments were influenced by that kaleidoscope mandala as shown in Fr. Z’s 11 Aug Omnium Gatherum post. Or maybe from the image shown in the 16 Aug 2015 “LCWR Great Swirly Meeting” post. The theme there was “Springs of the Deep Burst Forth.”

Of course, this design was probably just a stupid idea, but the optics are terrible.

Now, this next guess is most unlikely, but might as well:

This vestment design could be influenced by the Sigil (a painted or drawn occult symbol that is supposed to have “chaos magick” or diabolical power) that represents “I receive memories of my past life through my dreams.”

    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/435019645239337891/

This is also most unlikely as an influence, but might as well mention it:

    http://sigildaily.com/2015/05/new-sigil-love-will-bring-my-family-together/

One way occultists amuse themselves is with stylized profane renderings of sacred art. In that sigil notice the “addition sign-Cross,” the “triangle-Trinity,” and also the “curved line-half infinity sign.”

These possible influences are by no means certain, the vestments could be merely a poorly thought-out Celtic design.

One wonders who designed and approved these vestments and when, the optics are unfortunate. Hopefully, that photo is some sort of hoax or fabrication. Either way, all the more reason to hold fast to traditional vestments.

  34. MrsMacD says:

Are there pointy hats to match?

Humour aside, it’s disgraceful. They’re purposely making the vestments ugly to get people to associate the Mass with ugliness, to make them, secretly, hate it.

  35. jaykay says:

rhhenry: “Why is the dalmatic (I think that’s what is on the far right) in purple? Will the World Family meeting last until Advent?”

It’s a dalmatic, Jim, but not as we know it. In fact, it struck me that it was more of a rose shade, which is for only two Sundays of the year, so I wondered why they were even bothering? Then I saw this in the linked article, which indicates they’re intended for future use, Gawd ‘elp us:

“He also said that the liturgy team wanted to create vestments that would stand the test of time and be a gift of the Irish church for major celebrations in the future.”

Shows how seriously deluded they are. The 70s never ended for these people – although, hoc dicto, it is nice to see both a dalmatic and a rose one at that. Some nod towards Tradition.

Anyway, I’ll be in the choir, drawn from all the dioceses, for that Mass. I now have advance warning as to some of what will assault my eyeballs. What will assault my eardrums is another matter entirely (and no, I don’t mean the music, although most of it is mediocre, at best – apart from the Byrd “Ave Verum”, the only saving grace in the whole shebang, i.m.h.o.)

MrsMacD: “Are there pointy hats to match?”

yes, as it happens – the mitres!

    Oh, I see what you did there… ;-/ ;-/

  36. Mxpxlcp55 says:

I have seen this symbol on a website that exposes Satanic imagery in the media and entertainment industry; without question, this is the number of the beast. Several celebrities and music videos, etc. sport the 666 in this exact fashion.

  37. Flos Carmeli says:

Michael Haz says, “It looks like beachwear. Cover-ups worn to and from the beach on cooler days.”

I wouldn’t be caught dead in such ugly stuff at the beach or anywhere.

To me, it looks like the orthodontist office draperies I remember from the early ’90s, though without the satanic swirl.

  38. tacitus63 says:

    Groovy, baby!

  39. jaykay says:

Since it seems they’ve provided them in all the liturgical colours, even including rose, I’m sure there are also black ones there…

    ? Oh well.

  40. christopherschaefer says:

Perfect timing: the only color missing is lavender. This ‘family’ meeting, at which homosexual activist Fr. James Martin SJ will be keynote speaker, was organized by Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, who commissioned a homo-erotic mural (with self-portrait!) in his cathedral in the Diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia. Maybe it’s time to pull out that old “Rite for the Degradation of a Bishop”…

  41. JKnott says:

Reminds me of the old “poodle skirts” that were all the fad for little girls. Cheap felt for short-lived fun, to twirl, and twirl, and twirl in.

These vestments pathetic Vat II people fads and innovations versus our Catholic patrimony – like Styrofoam versus Gold and diamonds

  42. maternalView says:

I think it is an example of what you were talking about before Father.

These people are not going to stop until they are forced to stop. They are beyond caring– they are full speed ahead.
