They are from the Midnight Mass a few weeks ago at St. Joseph’s Church, Toledo, Ohio. The priest is the new pastor, Fr. Joseph Poggemeyer–he is a young and very impressive guy. The 8:30am Sunday Mass at St. Joseph’s is the OF in English celebrated ad orientem, and the 10:30 Mass is the EF in Latin.
As you note, brick by brick. When I was in (a Jesuit) high school 35 years ago, I never thought I’d see this happen.

The Toledo diocesan newspaper had a front-page article this month on the TLM: http://www.catholicchronicle.org/content/view/5405407/
I’ve been to St. Joseph several times. It’s a wonderful parish, and they have a great pastor.
I strangely don’t know of this priest (and I’m a Toledoite). There’s definitely a lot of good things happening our way.
This is truly awesome. I am curious, however, regarding the headline vs. the story contents:
Headline: “Tridentine Masses attract small but faithful following”
Content: “Last spring the parish began offering the Tridentine Mass every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and the attendance has been so high and the response so positive that Father Joseph Poggemeyer, who became the new pastor last July, is now considering celebrating the 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass in this form once a month as well.”
Don’t mean to be a pessimist, but it seems that the headline and the content contradict each other. From what the story says, the extraordinary form Mass’ following isn’t “small” at all!
Do priests in Toledo, Ohio have the privilege of using the Mozarabic Rite? ;)
Well, this is certainly good news. My husband and I have been contemplating a move to Toledo. We figured with tons of Catholic Churches we might find one like this.

St. Joseph’s is a wonderful parish; unfortunately, those of us in the Diocese of Toledo don’t experience much tradition. It’s a shame what’s happened to our beautiful Cathedral.
Fr. Poggemeyer is a fellow alum of the Pontifical College Josephinum. I’m glad to hear Fr. Jessing’s Boys are returning to the Traditional Mass!
Is there any problem with this arrangement of candle sticks on the high altar? We have this ongoing debate in our parish between straight across and this arrangement (which some say “looks better”).
Fr. Joseph Poggemeyer is a former faculty member of the Pontificium Collegium Josephinum. He is a brilliant scripture scholar and linguist. He is also a very holy priest and much missed by his former students and spiritual directees. He always celebrates Holy Mass very reverently (OF) and his homilies truly enlighten. It was a blessing to find a picture of him here at WDTPRS.
My husband and I are blessed to be parishoners at St. Joseph’s, which we discovered soon after our recent move this Fall to Toledo. It truly is a gem of a parish with not only a holy pastor and awesome liturgy, but also remarkably faithful and holy families.
My husband and I are in Toledo for two months,due to my husband’s responisibilities for CSX, and we are attending this parish. We were welcomed by several parishioners, and Father himself after Mass. He is a wonderful pasotr- At last week’s Mass, his sermon dealt with obedience- his to the bishop and ours in our station in life. he also dealt with his temporal pastoral duties. He is open abbout learning the EF, and his mistakes, but he loves the EF and explains the
GIRM in his sermons as well.
For those in the southern part of the diocese, Fr. Herman Scherger, a retired priest says the TLM on the First Fridays at the Domus Angelorum Retreat Center in Cloverdale. The vocations director, Fr. Adam Hertzfeld, also says the TLM and is in residence at St. Rose.
I’ve heard that Father Paul Kwiatkowski also says the TLM at Immaculate Conception (Toledo.)
When I started Catholic high school 35 years ago, one of our first school masses featured a high volume recording of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” There was nothing heavenly about it! Things have really come a long way, thanks be to God.
