The fruits of the pro-abortion culture of death: horror in Philadelphia

The young Papist alerted me to this, and the always informative Jill Stanek has a lot more, about a developing story in Philadelphia.

The details are ghastly.

Two notes as you read more, if you chose.

On to the story in Philadelphia.

Here are a couple of Jill’s updates:

UPDATE, 10:20a: More from the Associated Press…A Philadelphia abortion doctor has been charged with eight counts of murder in the deaths of a woman patient and seven babies that prosecutors say were born alive and then killed with scissors…

District Attorney Seth Williams says state regulators ignored complaints and failed to visit the clinic since 1993.

Williams says the women were subjected to squalid and barbaric conditions at Gosnell’s Women’s Medical Society, which was shut down last year.

Gosnell has been named in at least 10 malpractice suits, including one over the death of a woman who died of sepsis and a perforated uterus.

UPDATE, 10:45a: More from the Toronto Star

Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, made millions of dollars over 30 years, performing as many illegal, late-term abortions as he could, prosecutors said….

Gosnell “induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord,” Williams said.

This is disgusting. I want to hear PP condemn this, since they are wanted free safe abortions available to women so they aren’t forced into alleys to have them. No, they are having dangerous abortions in free safe clinics that these sick population controllers promote. Killing babies with scissors?! Thats just plain out evil. Satan may have lost the war with the Lord, but he’ll fight the battles to suck us to hell with him. :(

  2. Supertradmum says:

God have mercy on us all, for these crimes. I contacted my representative. Please, please do so today.

  3. Janol says:

Unfortunately, an immediate call to action was not given by the SBA List until after noon yesterday, nor on WDTPRS until after 3 pm yesterday with the suggestion to call by 5 pm. And regrettably, the WDTPRS poll indicates that only 16% of us contacted our rep. Actually, I emailed mine. Others might be reminded that they can always email their reps if they prefer.

  4. Teresa-1962 says:

I am horrified. I am also embarrassed to admit until I read this article I had done NOTHING to contact my congressional representative to tell him I am sick of my tax dollars being used to kill unborn children. I actually voted “No” in the poll earlier in this week about contacting my representative. I’ve changed that and have called his office in Washington. He will not vote the way I want, but at least I finally spoke out. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

God have mercy on us all.

  5. priests wife says:

those poor babies…praying for those mothers that let the evil one fool them into thinking that they were doing the right thing :(

  6. benedetta says:

Not sure which is more shocking, the infanticide for sale or the fact that state regulators ignored women’s complaints for many years, and looked the other way as over 45 plus (?) civil lawsuits were filed including one in which a woman died???

  7. digdigby says:

Also, the police found shelves lined with aborted fetuses and even a jar full of severed feet “which could have no known medical usage”. IF this fellow had not been caught as a drug dealer and IF some one had murdered him, Obama himself would probably be delivering the eulogy and the nation would be in mourning for weeks.

  8. Prof. Basto says:

When I read something like this, I sin greatly, because for a second I wish the Lord would exclude people like this doctor from His mercy. For a second I pass judgement and think that a doctor like this deserves the eternal punishment of hell for killing babies in this cruel manner; for a second I think that I may be a sinner, but there is no comparing my sins with those of this man.

For those toughts, that I confess, Lord, have mercy on me, poor sinner, and lead me to think only that which is right.

  9. benedetta says:

Correction apparently two women died in addition to the several babies.

  10. michele says:

I thought that by making abortion legal, we were protecting women from this sort of thing. Sounds pretty “back alley” to me.

  11. Supertradmum says:

    Prof. Basto,

Those of us who have been given the grace to know and accept the Truth as greater sinners than those in the dark. We know and sin. They are ignorant and sin. God have mercy on all of us.

  12. Supertradmum says:

    are greater sinners–sorry…

  13. Robert_H says:

“I am aware that abortion is a hot-button topic,” Williams told reporters. “But as district attorney, my job is to carry out the law. A doctor who knowingly and systematically mistreats female patients, to the point that one of them dies in his so-called care, commits murder under the law.”

Does this mean he won’t go after this abortionist (I wouldn’t dream on calling him a doctor) for the viable babies he murdered?

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis…

  14. Laurinda1230 says:

I am ashamed to report that people in their 20s are still so unaware…. I had lunch with a group of friends and a girl who was there actually was surprised to hear that Planned Parenthood does abortions. She actually said, “No they don’t.” And seemed to act in disbelief of our discussion. We were so shocked and I hope I handled the situation with charity as I proceeded to give her a lesson on Truth. She just went through Confirmation after returning to the Church, she has a lot to learn.

I’m looking forward to the Texas Rally for Life this weekend! It will be wonderful to be around a huge amount of Pro-Life people! I currently work at a Univ where most of the students are pro-choice and I feel like I’m alone.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much.
I beg you to save the life of the unborn baby
    that I have spiritually adopted,
and is in danger of abortion.
Mary, our Mother in Heaven, pray for us,
and especially for your little ones in danger of abortion!

    ~Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

  15. Prof. Basto says:

Yes, Supertradmum, I am aware of that. I was confessing to a sin of mine, the sin of thinking this doctor should go to hell. I am aware that such a line of tought is sinful and merits repentance and penitence. But being honest, his sinful tought is what first crossed my mind.

  16. Prof. Basto says:

Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae pervia caeli
Porta manes, et stella maris, succurre cadenti,
Surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti,
    Natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem
Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore
    Sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.

  17. EXCHIEF says:

PP and other pro abortion groups are already bemoaning the possibility that because of this incident women will be “denied the opportunity to make a choice”. I hope they are right.

  18. EXCHIEF says:

PP and other pro abortion groups are already bemoaning the possibility that because of this incident women will be “denied the opportunity to make a choice”. I hope they are right.

  19. digdigby says:

I never ever ‘argue’ about abortion. I’ve simply collected direct quotes from former abortion workers. A vigorously feminist ‘pro-choice’ young woman who was an assistant in an abortion clinic had a particularly long and grueling day. As often happens, the suction tube clogged and she yanked it off and put a new one on and absently put the clogged tube in the pocket of her white coat. At the end of the day, exhausted, having a cup of coffee, she found the clogged suction tube in her coat pocket and not thinking much of it either way took it out to find herself looking at a tiny perfect human foot. She stared and stared, waking from the ‘Stephen King nightmare’ that was her life and ran, never looking back. As soon as you play the game of ‘logic’ with pro-choice people, you are playing by Hitler and Mao’s eugenic rules. We are talking our God-given visceral humanity (or what’s left of it). Nothing less will work.

  20. Paulus Magnus says:

If you have the stomach for it, the grand jury’s report is particularly horrific and they explicitly wonder why none of the bodies responsible for investigating the decades of complaints ever did or follow up on any inspections (with the last such being in 1993).

  21. Stu says:

    digdigby,

Do you have a URL where all of your quotes are posted? Could be useful.

  22. benedetta says:

According to the grand jury’s report which Paulus Magnus posted, the doctor is criminally charged with only those infant deaths which could be documented. The report itself implies that it must have been many more than that.

  23. digdigby says:

    Stu-
I am not an ‘internet presence’ in any way but I do have some good books. I would suggest the classic “Lime 5” by Mark Crutcher, (avaiable used from Amazon for $2) especially the chapter ‘Vacant Souls’. So many connected with abortion mills also become druggies, sex addicts and above all sadistic to the women they ‘treat’ (even receptionists do!). Then there is the whole other question of ‘Demonic Possession’ Father Euteneuer published a book, Demonic Abortion, but it went out of print and people are paying $100+ for it and it is not to be reprinted. This case has an almost satanic aura of evil but who am I to even think that way.

  24. Supertradmum says:

The House has not yet voted on the abortion bill today. I just checked a minute ago. As it is controversial, the members will probably vote on this tonight. Please phone your representative. Two of us who called two different men got very gracious, not necessarily agreeing, responses, but the reps’ secretaries said that they do take their constituents positions seriously.

  25. irishgirl says:

My God-this is horrible! And disgusting, too!

  27. lux_perpetua says:

unless i am completely mistaken, this district has been, regrettably, represented by one mr. chaka fattah since 1995. this man has been associated with the free mumia abu-jamal movement, supported DADT’s repeal, and has generally been responsible for running west philly into the ground. though i’ve moved from his district i have called to let him know that i will do everything in my power to support his opponents candidacy and to garner support for him/her in whatever way i could. i really wish philadelphians would but these representatives who are tearing our city apart in a vice grip and let them know that atrocities like this committed under their watch will not be tolerated. lest anyone think this is philly’s only blight, there are three other abortion clinics [that i know of] in a 30-block radius from this place.

  29. bernadette says:

Ah, Philadelphia, the place where I was introduced to saline abortion as a student nurse. The site of that beautiful dead tiny baby is forever seared in my brain.

  30. Girgadis says:

This so-called doctor isn’t even the only late-term abortionist to make the news in the Philadelphia area recently. Just over the bridge in New Jersey, Dr. Steven Brigham is also facing charges for starting abortions in New Jersey and transporting women to Maryland, where he not only killed their infants but maimed the women in the process. Authorities found the remains of as many as 36 babies in a freezer in his Maryland office. Brigham has lost his ability to practice in a several states including Pennsylvania, New York and Florida and he has a history of performing abortions that not only killed the baby but injured the mother severely in the process. As horrible as it is to read the shocking and sickening details of what he and Grosnell do for a living (Grosnell also billed himself as a dentist, btw) perhaps bringing these situations to light, as the press is now doing, what will finally get people to open their eyes.

Yes, there will be peaceful and prayerful protests in Philadelphia on Saturday as well as Mass at 9:30am at St. John the Evangelist at 13th and Market Streets.

  31. Joseph-Mary says:

Please consider being involved in your local 40 DAYS FOR LIFE campaign. After February 1, the new location calendar will be up on their website: http://www.40daysforlife.com

  32. Andrew Mason says:

This is horrible, truly a crime against humanity. Perhaps more disturbing is the fact that such a distinction as “born”/”unborn” exists in the first place. If these babies had still been at least partially in the womb he could have jammed scissors in their brains as much as he wanted and nobody could have done anything about it. I’m sure that Planned Parenthood and liberals across the country loved him for “heroically” performing these barbaric late-term abortions, just as they loved George Tiller who was also performing such procedures. I wonder if they’ll rise to his defense, champion him as a savior of women and accuse the District Attorney’s office of misogyny. That does seem to be their M.O. when it comes to abortionists behaving badly, but then as this guy’s horrible crimes come to light their instinct may be at least initially to distance themselves and see how things turn out. I just hope that this brings some people over to the right side, maybe somebody will see this story and realize the insanity that allows our culture to dehumanize children by virtue of where they currently reside.

  33. ckdexterhaven says:

How many others were complicit in this man’s evil? The doctors who referred girls for abortions? This guy was doing late late term abortions, and the girls didn’t just find him. After reading the grand jury report, lawyers of dead victims or severely maimed women contacted the proper authorities who then looked the other way. He made $1.8 million in one year killing babies.

God have mercy on these women who went in there.

  34. Supertradmum says:

God have mercy on the husbands, boy friends, moms, dads, sisters, brothers, nuns, who drove those women to the abortion clinic, either physically, or mentally. It takes two to have a baby and a family to raise a baby. Yes, God have mercy on the women, but also on the others who either abandoned them, pressured them, or gave them bad advice. God have mercy on us all.

  35. ckdexterhaven says:

Ok, be warned that the pdf of the grand jury report has color pictures of the victims. Lord help me, on page 114 I saw the most gruesome sight I have ever seen. A poor baby victim who was killed by scissors.

Over 50% of American citizens voted for a guy who has no problem with this. God help us.

  36. bookworm says:

“How many others were complicit in this man’s evil?”

The grand jury names quite a few names in that regard. The overview part of the report (that was as far as I could stand to read) notes that when Robert Casey (a pro-life Democrat) was governor the health regulations governing abortion clinics were properly enforced; but under his successor, Tom Ridge (a pro-abort Republican, who later became the first Homeland Security director) inspection of abortion clinics became extremely lax if not nonexistent.

I have to hand it to the grand jury members — being on a grand jury usually requires 6 months or more of regular service and sorting through boatloads of testimony — they had an extremely difficult task here and they acknowledge in the introduction to their report that they were not all of the same mind on the morality of abortion itself (some were pro-life and others pro-abort). Yet they all came together and did their duty according to the law, and did not hesitate to call what happened baby killing rather than “pregnancy termination” or some other euphemism.

  37. green fiddler says:

This makes me weep. Dear Lord, forgive us and heal us.

I feel badly that I did not read Fr Z’s alert yesterday in time to contact my representative.
Where is the best place to find up-to-the-minute action alerts on pending pro-life legislation, something that could be checked at the beginning of each day… does anyone know?

  38. Supertradmum says:

    green fiddler,
up for the Susan B. Anthony List

  39. isnowhere says:

    Oh my Jesus! Have mercy.

I have read a number of news reports that focus on how this was an “illegal” abortion clinic suggesting that the “legal” ones are less horrific. Ignorance.

  40. green fiddler says:

    Supertradmum, thank you.
I’ve bookmarked Susan B. Anthony List.

  41. I found an interview with the Philly District Attorney, and the 281 page Grand Jury doc. See my post

  42. Meredith says:

Let’s pray that this horror brings some pro-choice people to their senses. Here’s an article from Slate, definitely not a conservative site: http://www.slate.com/id/2281812/

  43. Girgadis says:

The authorities turned a blind eye to the horror chamber Grosnell operated for years. The University of Pennsylvania, which is where many of his adult victims were taken for emergency surgery, filed numerous complaints, but to no avail. And this man isn’t even a gynecologist. Untrained personnel illegally administered anesthesia to patients when Grosnell wasn’t even on the premises. It’s hard to believe more women didn’t die under his “care”. The sad part is that every official who acted, did so on behalf of the women. Apparently, the dozens of maimed and mummified remains of infants garnered no such concern. Even on the news tonight, the assistant D.A. continued to refer to the full-term dead infants as fetuses.

This story originally broke last February. Maybe the timing of this being in the news now will result in more people reading “unPlanned” and will help to expose PP and other clinics which are feigning horror over Grosnell.
