Notice, Roman vestment and lace trimmed alb. Ha!
But Father, it doesn’t look like the Papal pallium. [NB: It’s a teddy bear. Right?]
…so it’s a Benny bear?
I’ll bet their sold out already, or soon will be. I’m wondering if the “only 111 made” is a ploy on the company’s part.
Anything for a euro, I guess. Or is it a deutsche mark? I don’t know, and I don’t care.
Hmm… the rare Ursus Benedictus Antiquior
St. Corbinian’s Bear would be proud.
To regain your Catholic bearings?
Cute idea, but 229 Euro?? I haven’t shopped for teddy bears lately, but it seems to me that anyone with basic sewing skills could acquire a nice bear and make the outfit, thus having the same thing for a whole lot less.
By the way, doesn’t the Holy Father’s coat of arms have a bear on it?
“But Father, it doesn’t look like the Papal pallium. [NB: It’s a teddy bear. Right?]”
Actually, despite being the accessory of a teddy bear, the pallium is spot on. It’s in the same form and even has red crosses. They did forget to include the episcopal dalmatic, though. For 229 Euros you’d think they would have included that! But the fiddleback chasuble is a nice touch.
Laura,
Yes, that’s St. Corbinian’s bear, who killed St. Corbinian’s packhorse in the forest. The good saint made the bear carry his luggage instead, then sent him back to the forest once they got to Freising.
I refer you to Fr. Zs post of June 25, 2008.
I thought for a second that Br. Ursus from the English OP’s got a rather quick promotion! (cf. Godzdogz blog).
as a former teddy bear collector (come on, I was a kid)- I say 229 Euros for a commemorative bear made in Europe is spot-on. I surprised it isn’t more expensive.
To depress those who would care- all Steiff plush is made in CHINA now- I guess it isn’t ‘Deutchland uber alles’ anymore
Well, I guess at 229 euros, it isn’t likely that a household will have two of them.
AnAmericanMother, thanks for the story about St. Corbinian’s bear! I wonder if that inspired the stuffed version?
picayunelayman, I don’t know if you’re referring to the same thing; I couldn’t figure out how to get to that post.
I think you’d have to call it a Papa bear.
229 Euros. OUCH.
This bear is so cute. I want to have one. But man, 229 € for that? In my land that’s the regular pension…. -.-

picayunelayman, thanks for the link!
