A reader sent a link to a photo of the new Mars Rover, Curiosity, just as it was being sealed into its capsule for the ride to Mars!

Looks like something my brother Dr Tom Miller, a solid state physicist, used to make in the attic when he was a kid. Amazing what works when it looks like an old fridge connected to a go-cart with lots of wires.k Fascinating

Wer’re sending a flying saucer to Mars. Cool!

  3. Wonder whether there’s a controversy on Mars, with some Martians claiming to observe occasional flying saucers, others saying it’s all a hoax.

Yes, that does look like a flying saucer!
    Very cool, indeed!

millions of dollars to figure out if bacteria can breed on mars… God forbid it be spent on alzheimer’s research or the homeless, the only thing i like about obama is that hes scaled back the mindless spending on space, its a money vacuum (heh) [piffle]

This story raises a question which has been on my mind for some time. Must a Mass be said on planet Earth? On the one hand, the Sacrifice is truly cosmic in scope. However, it seems surreal to think of the Holy Mass not taking place on earth, the place in which it happened. I am wondering what if anything the Church has said about this.

  7. I like that 2nd link. Didn’t catch that one.

If my dad had lived long enough (died in 92), my mother would have been an internet widow. He would have loved this stuff.
