We celebrated the baptism of our fourth child yesterday. Our parish priest performed the sacrament, and he kept a great balance of explaining what was happening and what it meant with keeping things moving. My brother and his girlfriend were there, both raised Catholic, but neither of whom have attended in many years. I pray a little seed was placed in each of them as well. Afterward, the weather turned sunny and the kids were all able to go out and play. It was a beautiful day!

For my good news, I got the green light yesterday to teach a 6-week course on the early church Fathers at my parish. I’m totally pumped. I have no formal education in church history, but have been reading the Fathers since I was like 10 years old :)
My 3 1/2 month old son, Charles Anthony, was baptized yesterday afternoon at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh. My 97 year old grandmother made it there. Even though we got to Mass late, which drives me nuts, it turned out to be a wonderful day. Fr.Dan Vallecorsa, who ministers to the Hispanic community in Pittsburgh, performed the baptisms. At the end of the baptism, Fr. Dan gave a blessing and dedication to the Virgin Mary in Spanish (for us) and in English for the other two baptized babies. This is a custom in Latin America and my wife, who is from Colombia, appreciates it very much.
My children and wife are my greatest blessings. I have two sons, who were born when I was 44 and 48. They are healthy and strong.
May everyone have a blessed Solemnity of the Annunciation – one of my favorite holy days, whether or not it is formally recognized as such.
Please pray for the Holy Father as he visits Cuba today. Nuestra Señora de Caridad, ruega por nosotros.
Last week my good news was that my parents were in process to buy the house next door to ours. This week my good news is that the deal fell through.
Ha-ha. Sometimes our joys and our sufferings are hard to distinguish from each other.
Our new pastor got rid of female foot-washing on Holy Thursday–yay! He did it in a most subtle and diplomatic way: Since we’re a Dominican parish attached to a residence for elderly and infirm Dominican friars, the celebrant this year will be washing the feet of twelve of those men. Who can complain about that?
Last Holy Thursday under our old pastor at least six, and possibly seven or eight, of the foot-washees were our dear parish ladies sitting on folding chairs in their slacks (because you can’t exactly wear a skirt and then have to take off your pantyhose in public view). They looked as though they were holding a meeting of the garden club. That’s one of the problems with female foot-washing: It’s either, “Wash my shapely, beautiful young foot with its new coat of purple toenail polish,” or it’s “Wash my old-lady foot that in the interest of decorum and aesthetics ought to be hidden away under a shoe.” After it was over, I said to myself, “I can’t take this anymore.” I resolved that henceforth I would do Holy Thursday at the Tridentine church.
But all has changed! It was a lovely piece of good news amid some bad news about the health and well-being of some of my family members who need prayers.
My family and I were blessed to help my father celebrate his 83rd birthday yesterday!

Our Good News is that we had a very successful and blessed fund raiser banquet for our pro-life crisis pregnancy center. Everything came together perfectly, speaker was perfect, food delicious and over 200 guests made generous donations in gratitude.
Pope Benedict XVI has named 48-year-old Father Gregory L. Parkes of the clergy of the Diocese of Orlando as Seventh Bishop of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.
We are so very blessed, ordination and installation 5 June, 2012.

Recently the Eastern Province Dominicans celebrated a Mass in the Dominican Rite for the Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas in Manhattan at St. Vincent Ferrer Church. Here is a Video of highlights from the Mass.
My Boston College Eagles made the frozen four and will face off against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota in the semi-final round a week from Thursday!
A Metropolitan said High Mass for the Solemnity of the Annunciation. From the Archdiocese of Cebu, an older See than that of Manila (Philippines). Very nice to see a Pontifical High Mass seeing a pallium worn. :)

Just read a post on TAC that on Palm Sunday, April 1st also Fool’s Day, the ITCCS (International Tribunal of Crimes of / (against) Church and State) with others is organizing an occupy the Vatican to push for disestablishment of its organization and that of the Church of England; then, on Easter forming some sort of human exorcising chain around it. So, a wake up call for us to remember those lessons taught to God’s people through the ages and to beseech Him for help as we gather our strengths to protect our Church.
I went with my mom and sister to see the movie October Baby. This is an awesome movie which encompasses the great personal pain wrought by abortion, as well as the power of forgiveness. I haven’t been to the movies in years, and was very grateful that we went to see this one.
The tabernacle at our diocesan cathedral was installed in its rightful place yesterday, directly behind the main altar, after many years of banishment to a small side chapel.
I got to attend Holy Mass for the Annunciation today, which was celebrated with due reverence. To fit my work schedule, I went to an unusual parish. Great homily too. I may remember it just a bit off of what he said, but basically “Today is the day of new beginnings. God is eager to give you a new beginning for the asking.”
Heard a really good sermon on the Annunciation today. The idea that struck me most was that Our Lady was the archetype of the Church–not the prototype, because that would imply a first try, which could be improved later.
I offered the holy Mass for the Annunciation ad orientem, with the schola and a reasonable assembly of the faithful, four brothers who were very excited to serve Mass–including the youngest who had never served Mass before–and added to that, we had a lovely time after Mass eating pizza and drinking wine and beer. It was all a wonderful celebration of the Feast.
My 6th child was born on the 23rd.
I had been out of work for two years (2008-2010) but found a job in another state (SC). After 18 months, on Friday, I got a job back in my home state(MA) so I get to be with my family again!
