Prayers requested for Fr. Phillips of St. John Cantius in Chicago – UPDATED

UPDATE 1858 CST:

I received a note from St. John Cantius in Chicago about Fr. Phillips:

With the help of God’s grace and many prayers, Fr. Phillips has had a tremendous improvement today. He is continuing his recovery under the doctor’s supervision, and he is resting well.  He deeply appreciates the many thoughts and sentiments of those who have expressed concern for his health. Please continue to pray for him.

I am getting a flood of email in which people are saying that Fr. Frank Phillips, founder of the Canons of St. John Cantius in Chicago is in a “coma” after surgery.

I called St. John’s to find out the straight story.  NO.

As of this writing, Fr. Phillips is not in a coma so don’t spread false stories.

That said, he sure could use your prayers!

Fr. Phillips is in the hospital. He is not doing well after knee-replacement surgery. As of 4:30 CST, he is in critical but stable condition.  There are some complications.

Definitely not good, but not a “coma”.

Do NOT call the parish for news.  They have plenty on their plate.  They will let me and others know what is going on.  Don’t play “telephone” and blow the story up into something that isn’t true. Okay?

In your charity, pray for Fr. Phillips and for that good community.

I read this while stuck in traffic in the ice and prayed for him then. Got home safely and praying again. I met Fr. Frank Phillips at the Sacred Music Colloquium a year or so ago. Wonderful priest!

Father Phillips’ presence can be felt everywhere throughout St. John Cantius. He is an inspiration to the Canons, the clergy and all the parishioners. He has done wonders with that beautiful old church as a tribute to our Lord and as a benefit to all of us. We pray to see him again soon, greeting us all with his kind, gentle smile.

Yesterday morning we received our candles for Candlemass and will light our first one for him, as we pray for Father and all the good people at the church.

I’m glad that Father is doing better after his knee replacement. I know exactly what his brother Priests at St. Johns are going through. My father in law that the same surgery and also had complications. He spent 6 months in the hospital, had to have 8 surgeries and nearly died twice.

In a sad note, His Excellency Bishop D’Arcy Emeritus of Ft. Wayne-South Bend passed into eternal glory today. Today was the anniversary of his first Mass. I am sending prayers to the northeast corner of Indiana tonight.

And will continue to pray for him. Thank you for the update, Father Z.

We learned today that Father is awake, cracking jokes and much more his own self. He needs more rest, but should be up and about soon…..Keep on praying! God Bless!
