Obamacare, your taxes, and “gender reassignment” surgery. Fr. Z rants a little.

How is Obamacare, the “AFFORDABLE” Care Act, working for you so far?

I saw this on LifeSite:

Obama administration may add taxpayer-funded sex-change operations to ObamaCare, Medicare, Medicaid

DES MOINES, IA, December 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is one of the most controversial laws in America because of its mandates, taxes, and coverage of elective abortions with a $1 surcharge. Now, there may be another reason for debate on the law’s merits: taxpayer-funded “gender reassignment” surgery.

The law may fund costs related to gender reassignment, according to Andi Medici in FederalTimes.com.

Since 1981, federal law has barred federal tax dollars from paying for “transsexual surgery” through programs like Medicare and Medicaid. On December 2, the HHS Department’s appeals board decided that the “National Coverage Determination” should be reconsidered, opening the door to taxpayer-funded sex-change operations.

Medici adds that Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, conventionally known as ObamaCare, no longer explicitly states that the federal subsidies will not require coverage for transgender-related surgeries.

Since the ACA does prevent “discrimination” on the basis of gender identity, however, and the federal government is publicly revisiting a 1981 law preventing federal coverage of “gender reassignment” surgery and related costs, it is possible the federal government will be covering those costs under the ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program.

After some nanoseconds of thought, I think I don’t want to pay for mutilations of this kind.

“Gender identity”.

Even if this ghastly thing doesn’t come to pass, there is packed within this phrase an evil that is so diabolical that it … well… we watch closely the signs of the times, right?  It is incredible how fast things are devolving.   It might seem trivial by comparison, but even the recent, multiplying attacks on sports, on football and the rules of baseball, bear the marks of a rampaging destroyer of the natural law.

Again the image of the last day of Numenor comes to mind.  Sunk in immortality, effeminacy and materialism, Numenoreans brought down upon themselves the destruction of their realm.

You can almost see the sea receding by our shore before the coming of the great wave.

“multiplying attacks on sports, on football…”

Well, I’m a bit confused about football, especially college football, which, more and more seems like an oxymoron. Where else can you get a scholarship to go to college to, deliberately, damage your brain? Seems kind of pointless. Continued brain trauma increases the concentration of tau proteins in the brain which is a precursor to impaired mental functioning in a subpopulation of people.

There is no such thing as gender reassignment outside of virally transmitted DNA reconfiguration methods and we are decades, if not a century, away from those.

Yeah Father, you can’t even see the water anymore from what used to be the shoreline, and everyone seems to be rushing headlong out onto those soggy tidal flats. Pray the Rosary and meditate on the Mysteries every freakin’ day people.

  3. Priam1184 says:

@The Chicken: You’re right, I could care less about baseball and football; having professional sports leagues as a distraction from the important things in this life has caused our culture a legion of problems the last hundred years, and if they disappeared tomorrow it would probably make things better.

However the whole ‘gender reassignment’ thing is very real and going on right now at least in terms of how these individuals see themselves and how society treats them which really is the only thing that matters; that is very real and very present. In fact the surgery in the end isn’t even necessary. We have men who live their lives like women and women who live their lives like men and a society that applauds them for it. Technical scientific definitions of ‘gender reassignment’ aside what could be more demonic than such a fundamental disturbance in and disregard for the order that God has created on earth? A return to the darkness of demonic paganism is what it is.

Since federal law doesn’t want to be discriminatory and I’m not specifically mentioned anywhere in the budget, then I think I should be entitled to $1million a day. Please remit forthwith.

  5. Clinton says:

The current Obamacare laws are just the beginning. In an interview with The Hill back
in October, Nancy Pelosi spoke of her party’s legislative program to be pursued after the 2014
midterm elections. She described how she would like to see federally-mandated universal
childcare added as another obligatory feature to all Obamacare-compliant health insurance
policies. That is, even persons who’ve never had children or whose own children grew up years
ago will be forced to buy childcare coverage in their health insurance policies. And so the
process of piling on mandatory coverages has begun… and the price of policies will only increase.

It will always be a temptation for our rulers in Washington to add yet another item to the list
of things that must be purchased for one’s health insurance policy to be Obamacare-compliant.
It is inevitable that the Democrats, in their race to embrace the culture of death, will push for
mandatory coverage for “gender reassignment”, among other things. Frankly, I’m surprised
that one of our (D)s in congress hasn’t already suggested that mandatory coverage for
assisted suicide be added. I suppose, given time, it will occur to them.

    Clinton,
Your comment is even more prescient than you may know. My daughter, who is a single professional woman, has to buy healthcare in an individual policy, and to be Obamacare compliant, she HAS to pay a surcharge for pediatric dentistry coverage every month. She does not have any children. What a ridiculous waste! I guess we can figure out one lobby who got to the legislators, huh?

….multiplying attacks on sports, on football and the rules of baseball

Father, I agree with you regards football, they are (already have) ruining the sport at all levels. I agree however with baseball banning head first (read smashing into a catcher) slides at home plate. That is a recent part of the game those smash-ups at home plate with the base runner basically trying to kill the catcher. Baseball is not a contact sport, other than bat-on-ball that is.

BTW……. As I’m certain most know, “gender reassignment” really isn’t. Do a DNA test, he is still a he, she is still a she.

As of yesterday, we now live in a world where it is permissable to euthanize children.

Since killing outside the womb is seen as perfectly well and good to these folks, so what’s the matter with mutilating people a little?

Frankly, all this talk of gay and transgender-advocacy is not at all about love, it’s about getting out of our responsibility to one another. It’s far easier to just nod your head and smile and say “yes, yes” and throw money at those struggling with these things rather than put in the considerable effort to help them see the right path. This is not love, it’s hatred, and actions meant to appease them in the hopes they’ll go away. But they won’t go away. Many will regret their operation and have increasing depression when the reality sinks in that they haven’t done anything to actually change, and now they are just unhappy weirdos, and this puts them on a greater course towards instability and suicide.

I want taxpayers to pay for my brewskis, its my “lifestyle” after all. If there isn’t a fine import or microbrew in my hand at a social function, well, something just isn’t right! I think a 25c surcharge would be plenty sufficient. Thanks Big Daddy Gubmint!

  11. Kathleen10 says:

Democrats/Liberals are naturally for sex reassignment surgery, or any weird sexual thing, and if you or I don’t like it, we can go pound sand in a rat hole. We shall pay for it either way and there will be no discussion.
I do not know what God is waiting for, and even though I fear it, I welcome it. Hurry Lord Jesus.

  12. Venerator Sti Lot says:

Presumably, this is one of the ways money ‘saved’ by the death panels can be spent elsewhere.
Has anyone read Götz Aly’s Die Belasteten: ‘Euthanasie’ 1939-1945, yet? It a sounds like a good book on a terrible subject.

  13. SKAY says:

Meanwhile people with cancer are losing their health care insurance and their doctors.

Now HHS is telling insurance companies to cover people who may not actually have insurance yet because of the Obabacare website. Surprise–in the Democrat ACA(laughable)bill there is a provision that the taxpayers will pick up the tab if the insurance companies do not make the money they consider necessary to operate. What could go wrong?
“The problem with socialism is that pretty soon you run out of other people’s money.” Period.

  14. Cathy says:

The ultimate destruction of medical care is to appropriate the healthy and normal to diseased in accordance to the mind of the patient. Why stop at this mutilation? We have normal healthy bodies attached to minds that believe they are the wrong color, species or believe they were meant to live without arms or legs.
