Jesuit-run Amerika props up new Socialist Dem candidate from NY. The Red Sun still rises in the East.

You’ve probably heard that recently a twenty-something Socialist (well… Communist) trounced a congressional veteran of some twenty years in a Dem primary.   He ignored his campaign until too late. She’s a Communist and pro-deviation who got out the young (aka sorta thick and mostly uneducated) vote.

Now Jesuit-run Ameriʞa – ever the pipe of the Left and deviancy – has slobbered over her and provided space for her op-ed about her Catholic faith, etc.

What could possibly go wrong?

It is not the first time this Jesuit-run publication has sported a Socialist.

Here is a good exercise for you.  Read the Ameriʞa piece and then read the examination of the Ameriʞa piece over at blog of Acton Institute by Rev. Ben Johnson.  He identifies the self-contradictions in the young ladies Catholic self-proclamations.

Of course the first one that will occur to even the slightly well-informed Catholic is the quote from Pius XI (so long on the masthead of The Wanderer):

“No one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist.”

So, she is either one or the other. Which is it?

We may have good reason to question Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s understanding of Catholic teaching in a way that Jesuit-run Ameriʞa is unwilling to do.

    “Abolish profit!”

The rampant, cut-throat, black market that is, and always has been, the result of all “socialism” and its manifest failures doesn’t seem to respect that dictum. But then, the Dear Leaders and their favoured lackeys that all such systems produce are always the least affected. While still having a strange liking for the luxury goods that free societies effortlessly produce. Which they don’t exactly share with the comrades.

Dear Lord: so young – so stupid. I’d recommend a couple of days in Venezuela or some other socialist ******** (in Pres. T’s words) to cure them. Only a couple of days, because they wouldn’t last a week before running whining back home.

Where toilet paper is still available, without selling your children. To someone who will very definitely not be into abolishing profit.

    [Stock up on TP, friends.]

Today it is acceptable for a Congresswoman, be it the Minority Leader or a 28-year-old (!) world-beater, to disseminate erroneous understanding of Catholic teaching, unopposed by priests and bishops who are scared to preach the faith from their own pulpits. It could make a less-informed Catholic wonder who the real priests are now.

Here is a survey of Benedict’s thoughts on socialism (link to Spe Salvi is not functional)

Socialism has been an abject failure wherever it has been tried. Lunacy is repeating the same thing and looking for a different result. Where do these people come from, is part of their brain missing.

  4. JustaSinner says:

Not a good Catholic…just hazarding a guess, based on facts, history, and knowledge of commies.

[Don’t just react Go and read the stuff and dig around. In normal times, this young woman is a bizzare footnote. Alas, these are not normal times.]

  5. Dismas says:

Should the next pope be, say, Clement XV, I would hope that he does NOT suppress the Jesuit Order. No, one suppresses a worthy and powerful opponent. The Jesuits of today, with but a few laudable exceptions, are largely spoiled, sullen, septuagenarian children with advanced degrees in erroneous theology.

Rather, they aught be dismissed, or rather rejected and forgotten. They lose all acknowledgement and benefits of being a Catholic religious order. As priests, they must obtain permission from the local bishop to engage in ministry, etc. If some individuals from within the festering corpse wish to start over, good for them, so long as they have permission.

They can keep their precious money and property. No creature on this earth lusts after and obsesses over Mammon so fiercely as a Socialist, so let them have it.

Lastly, the annual retreat will be conducted by a member of Opus Dei, whom the Jesuits hate for daring to poach vocations from *their* territory. The media won’t catch this insult, which stings all the more.

    Ah, one can dream…

  6. Dimitri_Cavalli says:

America is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit and thus barred from electioneering. It has the same status as a house of worship.

And, yes, America’s editors and contributors opposed modifying the Johnson Amendment, which bans 501 (c) (3)s from making endorsements. Yes, all 501 (c) (3) can praise or criticize elected officials and candidates but must stop short of endorsement.

By publishing her article, which mentions that she is a candidate for office and even including her Twitter campaign account, are America’s editors violating the IRS’ guidelines?

Before clueless liberals accuse me of censorship and invoke the First Amendment, imagine how you would react if Catholic New York, the Archdiocesan newspaper, published an op-ed by her Republican opponent and identifying him as a candidate and listing his campaign Web site or Twitter account?

It might be fun to file a complaint with the IRS against America.

I might be inclined to strip tax-exemption from entities, including Catholic ones, that want to raise government spending and everyone else’s taxes (are you listening Sr. Campbell?), but I don’t think they should be punished for expressing an opinion, including a hypocritical one.

The starving people of Venezuela, who voted for socialism, recently had to break into their own zoo to kill and eat the zoo animals. This was recently reported, but I can’t remember where. They have suffered rolling brownouts, since the electricity cannot be on 24 hours per day. For the commoners that is, the elites always have electricity, and they don’t have to eat tapirs or anteaters.
Our young people have been primed by public school and our own church and other Christian churches to want socialism and believe it is the more Christian belief system. This has been what they have gotten for quite a while and we should not be surprised in the least that Crazy Eyes has been elected.

  8. Malta says:

@JayKay–your post about toilet paper made me laugh out loud! Socialists just don’t get it. A free market may not always be perfect, but it worked pretty well for 2,000 years until Marxists came in and became dictators; imposing their will on others. A friend of mine wisely said, “Fascism and Communism are two sides of the same coin.”

  9. Malta says:

Of course the novel “Amerika” by Franz Kafka come to mind: :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerika_(novel)

He writes of an oppressive system of government, full of absurdities. It is true that Venezuelans are fleeing their country in droves, even because they don’t have clean water to drink; an average worker makes enough money to buy a loaf of bread in a week. Yet, it has the largest oil reserve in South America. And now Mexico has elected a socialist. I’m dating a Mexican, btw., so I’m not biased against Latinos. But if we can’t learn from history we are bound to repeat it.

  10. fishonthehill says:

Fr Z you are so right… a bizarre footnote indeed. This win is just a sign how loopy the left is and the demise of the Democratic machine. Her opponent, Crowley, was no great shake and part of a long time NY Democratic dynasty.
Now 200 Black leaders are speaking out against Chuck Shumer and Pelosi for not supporting Maxine Waters. The Democrats are broken and filled with extremists, no wonder people are walking away!
    #WalkAway

  11. Arthur McGowan says:

Socialism is not really the issue. She’s pro-abortion. The Jesuits are pro-abortion. Amerika is pro-abortion. And I am picturing myself seated at a card table in front of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, with a sign that says “Cardinal Dolan is pro-abortion. Change my mind.”

  12. robtbrown says:

Tom Perez is now the head of the Democratic Party. There were two reasons for his election:

    1. His main opponent was Keith Ellison, a Muslim, who is now the #2.

    2. Castro was not available.

  13. Arthur McGowan says:

Dismas: Jesuits and other religious clerics must have faculties from the local bishop, already. Which means that for every shenanigan from every pro-abortion Jesuit, every pro-sodomy Jesuit, etc., some bishop shares in the guilt.

  14. rtrainque says:

As bad as the socialism itself (and some of the more unrealistic aspects of her platform which flow from that) is, her support for “abortion rights” and the whole slew of LGBTQ craziness while claiming the title of Catholic in this piece is the real kicker.

The worst part is, this post unfortunately wasn’t the first place I’d heard her name. Nope, I saw the original Amerika article shared enthusiastically on Facebook by a chancery employee, with that post subsequently “liked” by at least two of their colleagues and a young local priest… Whatever happened to the “non-negotiables” of the Faith? Thanks be to God we have a steady TLM community, but I more or less shake my head at or ignore most of what comes out of those offices (coincidentally, pretty much how I handle what comes out of Amerika and Fishwrap)
