POLL ALERT: Le Figaro on Ven. Pius XII … AUX ARMES!

CATEGORY: POLLS — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 11:02 am

    Aux armes, citoyens!

In another entry I asked you readers to keep your eyes peeled for online POLLS about the decision of Pope Benedict XVI to promulgate the decree regarding the heroic virtues of Ven. Pius XII.

A reader alerted us to a poll in the large national French daily Le Figaro.  Alas, the good guys are not doing so well.

    I voted "OUI".

    Go HERE to vote!

There are quite a few votes, 18K+, so I hope other bloggers will take up the gauntlet.

    UPDATE 1638 GMT:

Is anyone else getting a message that the voting is closed?  "Le vote est clos."

If so, I was the ante-penultimate vote.

    1. I think I’m enjoying voting in this French poll a little too much.

    5. I voted on this poll earlier today before it closed. I was surprised by how many no votes there were.

    6. One wonders if Fr. Z should start linking people indirectly to polls instead of the normal method.

    7. Oh well…. better late than never. Maybe we helped with a small bump at the end.

    8. Why would a majority of the French readers of Le Figaro vote “oui”? The vast majority of France is pagan, non-Catholic or apostate. Hiding the symptom will not effect the cure.

      Au revoir.

    9. I don’t like the tone of the question itself. “Do you approve of THE WISH/DESIRE of Benedict XVI to beatify Pius XII?”

It A) Shows a profound misunderstanding regarding the nature of beatification/canonization and B) Disparages the actions of the Holy Father in democratic terms. This is like a poll on whether the Pope should recognize officially the sky as blue, and his ‘desire’ to do so. It’s semantic and silly, and shows that whoever came up with it fundamentally misunderstands the nature of these pontifical pronouncements.

    10. Looks like it was only open long enough for them to get the results they wanted.

    11. I’m French! Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly Catholic!

What are you doing conducting a poll about religious matters?

      Mind your own business!

If you insist on conducting a ludicrous poll, we shall take it by force!

You don’t frighten us, papist pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called Z-father, you and all your silly loyal Catholics. Thppppt!

    13. As was said so succinctly in the comments there, “L’Eglise ne fonctionne pas comme le TOP 50“, Panoramix19.

Has anyone seen Asterix or Obelix about?

      Comment by Hans — 21 December 2009 @ 5:34 pm
    14. The site says the poll is closed for me too.

    15. “Ante-penultimate”?! This deserves an interabang. How could you possibly expect us stoopid lay people to know a big word like that? (hahaha) Why not just use (waste words) “There were only two more votes after mine” rather than “I was the ante-penultimate vote”? Same number of syllables though…

      Haha!

Thank you for using the word ante-peultimate.
