I hope she is not standing on a forty foot plinth!

Nah – she’s got seats at the 50-yard line at the Metrodome.

    Whoah-that’s some snow pile!
And the statue is of Our Lady of Beauraing, Belgium! ‘The Virgin of the Golden Heart’! I recognize her crown!
    Charivari Rob-hey, that’s a good one!

  4. Oh, and apparently the Herter family (from Waseca, MN) ran a big catalog mail order business back in the day, which is why the grateful gentleman had the wherewithal to make 50 statues! Apparently “Herter’s” now belongs to Cabela’s?

Mr. Herter had met and married his wife in Belgium, too.

    Nice photo!

Our Lady of the Snows is the patroness of a shrine of the same name by the OMI in our Belleville diocese.

We have some snow on the ground at this point as well. Not significant, but visible!

  6. Aengus Oshaughnessy says:

Oh, that’s nothing compared to the snow where I live. In the high-up mountains of Ireland, many’s the time myself has had to trudge through snow up to the roofs of houses.

And besides, when I was a boy, I had to walk five miles to school through all that snow, uphill both ways (*grin*).

We have over nine inches and more to come, plus the temperature has been single digits for days. We need Mary’s intercession of all those who cannot afford heat and hot food. What a lovely, but disturbing photo. Almost looks as it Mary is emerging from the storm to bless us.
