VIDEO: Benedict XVI and Msgr. Ratzinger

Here is a video which has some recent views and sound of Benedict XVI in his residence in the Vatican Gardens.  Most of the video is dedicated to an interview with His Holiness’ brother Msgr. George Ratzinger, the retired Kapellmeister of the Cathedral in Regensburg.

It is entirely in German with no subtitles.  The best views of Benedict are at the beginning and the end.

The full video is HERE.  Here is short excerpt.  I severely lowered the quality of the video, so as to make it small enough to load quickly.

“Love Benedict so much.” — me too. I always pray for him and daily, I thank God for him. I always think I am so blessed to have him & PJPII as my pope. I remember to pray for PF because of PEBXVI.

God’s blessings of peace & joy!
    Maria

It is so good to see Benedict XVI. He’s like our Grandpapa. Vivat Benedicti!

What a great family. I understood some of German between Georg, Pope Benedict and cardinal Georg. something about Msgr. Georg and Pope Benedict’s sister.

  11. Angie Mcs says:

Msgr. Georg is still quite sharp and has a great memory, as he talks about his experiences from childhood, through WWII and to the present. His responses give us a glimpse into the loving, happy and secure atmosphere in which the Ratzinger children were raised, and the devotion they have for each other. Thank you for showing this to us, Father.

Love of God and family – so beautiful! It’s so touching to see them together.

It makes me very happy to see Benedict and makes me wish again that he had not renounced his ministry as Successor of Peter.

I miss him so much, but we still have his beautiful writings. I have been rereading Volume 3 Of Jesus of Nazareth. There is a lyrical poetic quality to Benedict’s writings and they never fail to amaze me.

    I miss him.

  14. NBW says:

It’s beautiful to see both brothers together. I miss Pope Benedict XVI.

  15. Fiat Domine says:

I’m sitting here crying after just finishing the video, missing Papa. It was so good to see him again. His voice, even though I didn’t understand the German language, made my heart happy and left me longing to hear more of him; longing to see more of him.

I have tried to write him a letter, but got a letter reply from someone in the United States who evidently sees his mail first, and it seemed as though from what they said, Papa will never see my letter.

Thank you Father Z for this most wonderful gift to us who love him, our Papa, not Grandpapa, our Papa….

  16. Confitemini Domino says:

Thank you very much, Father Z. This is a very moving video.

P.S. I watched the full video in high resolution (to be honest, I watched it three times…) and downloaded Father Z’s wmv for my archive… Father, I wonder how you downloaded (and downscaled) the original- I cannot find any download link on the BR-site and I’d like to have the full resolution on my harddisk, as German television stations often provide those streams only for a short period of time… can anybody of you give me a hint how to do it?

Danke, sehr, Fr. Z, that was lovely.

When the Domkapellmeister talked about his release as POW and his return to his home and family almost 70 years ago, it was not only he who started crying. I thank god for the loving and true Ratzinger family and the good they have done and are still doing for all of us.

  19. Jason Keener says:

I was hoping that Benedict’s papacy would have lasted another 8 years or so. Oh well. It’s good to see both Benedict and his brother. Hope they are both enjoying some well-deserved rest.

What a moving video! Msgr. Ratzinger is such a wonderful man, as is Pope Benedict. Each in their own way. To see them together as brothers is a beautiful thing.

Summorum Pontificum and Anglicanorum Coetibus will both last much longer than 8 years.
