Late summer evening

I don’t think there will be many more evenings like this.

The three bonsai trees.

Can you believe this is the same Japanese maple as a few weeks back?

Quite a contrast to what I was dealing with last week.

That was not the first time that screen appeared.

I don’t know who this fuzzy critter is.

The Chinese elm.

PENJING REPORT

Penjing has been thriving on the deck, day in and day out.

Still nothing to say.

Penjing is blooming.

It looks like fall, we are still in summer heat in Texas. If my wife and I go out for an evening walk with our Boxer it is still hot. Father I envy those who live up north in the summers but would not trade our winters. Thank you for being a Priest.

If you get really curious about that caterpillar, you might have a look at whatsthatbug.com They have thousands of photos of every bug one could imagine. It’s a hit with every little boy i know :)

I don’t want to sound like a total crab, but I can’t wait for the frost. My allergies and asthma are driving me nuts! Not to mention the humidity which, no matter if its hot or cold is not helpful. Sorry to be such a “negative nelly.”
    The pictures are great, though.

  9. Art says:

Looks like the fuzzy critter is a pale tussock moth.

The blue screen of death… haven’t seen that for quite awhile!

    What lovely photos :)
Yes, Summer’s coming to an end here in Italy (oh, I believe it ended yesterday) – but Autumn has its quiet beauty.
(And I’m sure there’ll be lots more evenings like that in your life … you are young Fr. Z.!)

  12. Capterpillar looks like the American Dagger Moth

If link does not work, go to this page.

And, the homepage. It’s a nice way to ID caterpillars. Click on the body style.

  13. American Dagger Moth is quite homely looking in contrast to the beautiful appearance of the caterpillar.

American Dagger Moth. The most beautiful caterpillers are usually moths!

Who would have thunk that here on the home base of a goodly share of American traditional Catholicsism, there is a subcaucus composed of caterpillar and moth afficianados.

    The Church truly is universal!

  16. irishgirl says:

Nice views of your deck and all the trees, Father! What a cute little fuzzy caterpillar!

‘The blue screen of death’….oooo, never had anything like happen to my computer! But then, I only use mine for surfing and for e-mail…never created a website, a blog or anything like that…I’m very ‘technology-challenged’…in other words, DUMB as a post!

  17. Supertradmom says:

Thank you for the outdoor meditation-truly beautiful. The birds are beginning to leave where we are….

BTW, following up on an earlier post, you might want to read up on Tosca’s premier last night at the Met.

It was booed worse than any opera in the Met’s history, and the audience made the curtain come down!

Our Lady was not amused, it seems….

  19. Allan S.: Our Lady was there too?

Fr Z’s blog is extending English readers’ vocabulary! I have just had to look up ‘critter’ as had no idea what it meant. I see that it is the American for ‘creature’ and apparently it is how people in Shakespeare’s time would have pronounced ‘creature.’

Beautiful photos Fr Z of trees and critter. I would not advise touching the caterpillar – last time I touched a particularly furry caterpillar I came out in a rash!
