An examination of conscience to help make a better confession by a really sound priest

My friend the great Fr. Finigan, His Hermeneuticalness, told me during my recent visit to “rare-dear Britain” that he had a good examination of conscience available on the blog of his parish, Our Lady of the Rosary in Blackfen.

Parish websites could have something like this available for their parishioners.  Of course the priests would also have to hear confessions, wouldn’t they?

Check it out HERE.

Confession Leaflets

I put a supply of these leaflets outside the confessional so that people can use them and take them home with them. I usually print them on coloured pre-printed leaflet blanks.
I use the children’s leaflet for confessions in the Junior School and for children making their first confession. I use the “teenagers” leaflet for my Faith Youth Group and for the Confirmation Class.

Confession leaflet for children
- A5 leaflet suitable for children aged 7-10.

Confession leaflet for teenagers
- A4 tri-fold leaflet suitable for young people 11-16.

Confession leaflet for adults – A4 tri-fold

      Fantastic!

Better than many others I have seen.

I like that it’s in plain, easy-to-understand English. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read through Examinations of Conscience only to be left wondering, “I don’t know,” “huh? What does that mean?”, “Maybe, I don’t know” simply because I didn’t undertand what they were asking. For example, “Have I engaged in illicit usury?,” “Have I engaged in calumny?” “Have I engaged in acedia?”

I like this examination of conscience as well, but I’m a little bias.

    5. The page you link with HERE offers just about the best collection of general parish resources I’ve ever seen in one handy place.

This is great! I’ve been looking for great resources for my middle school PSR students and my own young children.

Thanks Father! Rather timely, I go every Wednesday evening. Boy, do I need it!

It would be helpful to specificy which sins are considered grave matter.

    9. RichR says:

I agree with kolbe. An examination of conscience where the gravity of sins is not considered has little catechetical value and can lead to scrupulosity.

      I use this one:
