The Feeder Feed: Renaissance edition

Here is a painting at the Metropolitan in Manhattan, depicting Eve with Cain and Abel, an unusual subject.  It is by the Florentine Bacchiacca (+1557 – Francesco d’Ubertino).

It once included the figure of Adam, and so this painting was cut down.  We know this because there is another version in Philadelphia.

Bacchiacca was a student of Perugino and so the standing figure of Eve looks like Perugino’s Apollo and Marsayas in the Louvre.  Have a look.

Back to Bacciacca.

Here is the Bacchiacca in Philly which shows the original composition.

Back to New York’s Bacchiacca.

On the nearby branch one finds this colorful bird, perhaps a parrot?

  1. Tim Ferguson says:

Is that a parrot or Charles Krauthammer?

  2. Supertradmum says:

It’s a parrot, but is he a “dead parrot”?
